Was called to a job where I had submitted an estimate to replace 9 months ago to find a total hack job. Unbelievable crap people do. #hvac #hvaclife #hackjob #tweaker

I see it all the time, especially in apartments. They either put in a larger condenser or a larger compressor in the old condenser. These guys have special rules of thumb passed down from those before them.
@MoonRambo7022 жыл бұрын
Same here. Rule of thumb is use whatever crap you can find for cheap or free😂 keep putting bandaids on the problem to get by. I’d rather just take the big hit once, instead of 5 smaller ones and then still have to replace.

I have heard of installing a 1/2 ton larger evap coil compared to the condenser but never the other way around. Any mismatched system seems like it would underperform.

Obviously it is quite the hack job but I must admit that it was standard procedure at my last job to use a slightly larger condenser in all installs, roughly .5 tons larger. If it required a metering device change @the evaporator that's what we did, but we always used a larger condenser and we never had call backs nor any other issues. Cooling only though, no heat pumps up here...
@MoonRambo7022 жыл бұрын

I have ran across a 3 1/2 ton r-22 Lennox air conditioner (properly sized) that was flat on refrigerant, was going to perform a leak search, I went to the basement and discovered he had a 120,000 btu 90% Goodman with a 2 ton cased coil, I refused to go any further, he kept saying it worked great last year and then tells me that I don’t know what the hell I am talking about. He kept insisting, “Just Fix It”, I told him the only way it’s going to get fixed is replace everything, then he says I am not going to that and I will find another contractor that will do what I tell them to do, I told him go for it and here it what you owe me. The bad thing is this guy was self employed residential remodeling contractor.
@Bryan-Hensley3 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love companies like you. I will fix anything. I'll take all your customers if you were around here. Work is work. Sounds like more service calls to me. Fix it then fix it again. I'm not lazy. You obviously weren't around 30 years ago when a 2 ton evaporator coil of today's standards were the size of a 5 ton back then.
@jman08703 жыл бұрын
@@Bryan-Hensley you are pretty arrogant. Too bad most evaporators that were so much smaller back in your day had larger tubes in the coils to carry the proper volume of refrigerant. The systems also utilized compressors with different compression ratios and different oil. Dramatically undersized evaporators are a problem no matter what and I would never fix something that wasn’t remotely right because I would now have to warrant my work on that frankensteined mess and be married to it for years. Refusing to do blatantly wrong work doesn’t making you a bad contractor. Refusing to do any work makes you a bad contractor. Giving a price to do it right or you walk away makes you an excellent contractor. You also need 400 cfm per ton…that’s pretty important after all. You need a chill pill dude.
@throttlebottle59063 жыл бұрын
nice 2.5T condenser and 2T evap. coil :)))
@Bryan-Hensley3 жыл бұрын
There's really no such thing as a 2 ton evaporator coil. It's all based on the seer. A 5 ton coil used to be that small 30 years ago or less

When I see one or my customers go the cheapest route. I report back , write down in explicit detail what a hack job it is performed by a janitor or gardener . And tell them I can replace the system or they could call back the person who installed it in the first place since he was such a great deal and have them give him another deal at fixing it . And that I can no longer service his systems that are like this. GOOD BYE

@@Bryan-Hensley I guess I only have 3 years left to be in Business . I better start packing and applying for a job at McDonald’s. Wait a minute, what about the $167,000 in MUTI V heat recovery equipment I sold to my customer. What about the last 5 1/2 million plus tons of equipment I have installed plus that I have installed for previous customers who will be there to service them. Just this one customer we’re installing the LG multi-verse system on he has five more systems over the next year and a half I’m installing for him. I guess I’m gonna have to tell him the sad news that you’ll be taking over for me. Oh yeah I forgot I won’t be able to finish the integrated building automation system to his units another $65,000 you’re going to be rolling Indo you made out today. Then I forgot about my other business being a subcontractor vendor to automotive garage is doing diagnosis for them to repair customers cars I guess all the shops that you hack jobs and I fire them and tell them don’t call me back you’ll be picking up all those jobs to. Forgot about my third business direct vendor to insurance companies to provide the EPA refrigerant recovery service for their direct repair body shops. And be called back in to recharge them when they’re ready to deliver to the customer. Easy money $$$ It’s a good thing my customers Will be lucky to have you to service and install my systems for them.
