Sure but you don’t tell somebody they need to replace the whole thing after you just took a glance at it. You run a diagnostic then give your best professional advice. @jaysenclarke86545 жыл бұрын
I would have changed the flexible pipe for a rigid one. You never just tighten an old hose. ALWAYS change it. The price it cost for a service call is not worth taking a chance for a call back on a old hose with an old rubber gasket. That's why one of them didn't charge to tighten it because if he gets a call back the customer won't complain because he didn't pay. And if the tank is over 8 years old you write on the bill that you recommend that they have it changed in the near future. If one of my guys came back from a service call and said he just tightened an old hose instead of changing it, I wouldn't be happy.

There's only a few things with water heaters you need to pay attention too. 1. You may want to annually drain and fill the tank in case of sediment collecting at the bottom. You may need to vaccume sediment out of bottom as well. 2. If you have a water softener system, you're introducing salt which can corrode the elements and anode rod more quickly. So when doing a sediment dump just do a visual inspection. 3. Manually check the pressure relief valve to verify it can open and close properly. Otherwise replace. You do that and you'll get 15+ years on alot of these water heaters. Besides that

This JUST happened to me!!! I had NO hot water and the PROFESSIONAL plumber quoted me $800.00 to FIX my tank. I had a handyman from church who changed out the heating element for $10.00 and then would only accept $10.00 as payment.v total repair, parts AND labor: $20.00 TOTAL. !!!! BTW, I am elderly and disabled on fix income so this really was a BLESSING. !!

So when I first started in the trade I had something similar to this. I tightened the nut and stopped the leak. A day later water was spraying out of the dip tube. What happened was in tightening the nut down I broke the corroded nipple on the dip. So yes sometimes you don’t touch things.

Same thing happened with me and my central air. I moved in 5 years ago. Its an older unit. First time using it I noticed air blowing out was a little warm and not ad cold as it should be. One guy came out said I need a whole new unit. Second guy came out noticed freon was low. Topped it off and been fine ever since. Be careful folks the scammers walk amongst us.
@markbass94022 жыл бұрын
Yeah. It's still leaking and you could be paying yourself back in energy savings with a new unit. I had an old freezer in the garage. Cost me 20+ a month to operate. A guy sold me a new one ,same size, less than 10 bucks a month. Electricity is dear!

A water heater should cost easily 2k and really closer to 3k nowadays, plumbers deserve to make 6 figures especially someone who is licensed and has experience. That water heater looks pretty old so honestly most good plumbers would have offered to replace it now obviously the homeowner should be told that it was only leaking from the supply line but that it would in their best interest to replace.

This is not a fair gage and test to be honest. Because if you look at it from the perspective of the plumber repair man whose job it is to not only find and fix the problem but also diagnose what caused the problem in the first place. Nuts don’t just loosen themselves, so the plumber doing his job would be trouble shooting trying to find out why the nut came lose in the first place, which could lead one to conclude that the unit needs to be replaced.
