Thanks for this video. Super helpful and informative. I particularly liked the way you fixed the unit behind the glove box panel which I've replicated on my install. In some other videos they've just rammed everything behind the centre console screen and screwed it back - very messy.

btw the push pins under the round instrument, push them gently, and not too far in !! I used a small torx screwdriver, the inner pin went right through and out the back and made a nice tinkling sound falling down inside the console and was never seen again... :-)

Very informative video, thanks. If you are listening to the radio through the standard system and then switch to the Car play, does the radio carry on playing. If so, does it mute when the getting navigation instructions through the car play. A second question, can you use Siri by pressing the voice button on the steering wheel?

To use Siri, you just say hey siri. I've not tried using the standard radio mixed with carplay as I would just use radio via carplay streaming service.

Looks like an interesting addition. My problem is that I rarely use my radio/music function. Even on long road trips, I prefer the sounds of the car and road. Thanks for the excellent install video though!

I'm having a 2021 Cooper S shipped to me (if all checks out I will finalize and purchase) but I'm having the hardest time figuring out whether it has Apple Carplay or not. I asked the dealership but they aren't Mini/BMW specific so they were clueless. It has the smaller screen but it does have the nav package. Do you know if the smaller screens with Nav are touchscreen and if they come standard with Carplay. Crazy how complicated it is to figure out. It has everything else checked except the larger screen. Moonroofs, Harman Kardon, etc. I find it pretty weird that any of the Harman Kardon equipped cars have the smaller screen but for whatever reason this one does. Thanks.

Installed. But when I play a song for example on carplay the radio is still playing. Probably a setting somewhere. Any ideas ?

You need to go back into mini menus and set audio input to aux

Hi thats the USB cable, you can route that where you like and is purely if you want to charge your phone while using apple carplay. or dont want to use the wireless carplay function

Hey I have a mini one D with the same system you had. Blank screen flicks on and off and the ring light above doesn't work did yours have the same issue ? I Will upgrade to this but I feel like it's an electrical issue as had an ipod plugged into it overnight forgot to unplug it

any advice on what the issue would be if I have a ‘no signal’ message after installing? the normal menu with 7 icons works fine, but then when I hold the menu button to switch over to carplay, it says ‘no signal’ and goes black. thanks!

i have connected my Carplay box to my 2014 Mini Cooper S and everything works fine except for the DAB Radio. When I come out of Carplay and press any of the DAB buttons I get No Signal on the screen. If I press the button for the local DAB station that works as long as it is away from buildings. If I remove the Carplay box then all the DAB staions work fine. I have had the box replaced but no difference. Do you have any idea what could be wrong and does your DAB work OK. Sorry for the long message

Hi unfortunately with the latest head units it’s hit or miss on advice on if this would work, from what I have read no but worth you reach out to suppliers to check.

Great video, really helped me to install CarPlay I’m my f56 Unfortunately, when I’m shifting reverse and then drive again, the system fails and I can’t enter CarPlay again (I have to shout down and start the car) Another problem that I have, when I calling someone, the mic doesn’t working… Do you what is the problems?

Very odd not see that behaviour myself, have a read through the faq doc from the manufacturer and if that doesn’t cover it, speak to your supplier

From memory there are options in the menu system on the screen itself. Not sure you can pick specific colours but maybe different behaviours

I retrofited mine was working fine until I installed 3rd party camera now the original mini idrive system switch to BMW idrive system. Is there anyway to bring back to Mini idrive? Super strange glitch now centre dash ring light and radar sensor warning doesn't work.

Say you are listening to music on CarPlay when you go back to the idrive does it still play with it being on aux?

I’ve never come across a situation why you would switch back to idrive while listening to music. As nav etc is all through CarPlay.

Hey guys (F56 here) I want to know if it is normal that after reversing the car, you have to press and hold the "menu" button again to put the carplay back? Hi having drove my f56 yesterday, yours should automatically switch back to CarPlay once you take it out of reverse, mine does. Have you checked the faq supplied with it?
