Some pilots did transition back and forth, 3, 4 times, but yah, Col. does a lot of it, what REALLY blew my mind was seeing Harvey on two occasions downed behind enemy lines, that was almost absurd when consider the OG character nearly getting dismissed from the AAC for sneaking aboard as a waist gunner

Wow, I can't believe I stumbled upon this series on YT! Shows like this one in the 1960's (along with Garrison's Gorillas, Combat! et al) gave me the impetus to learn German because I wanted to know what the characters were saying. It's interesting that you mention wanting to learn German because of these shows. As a young kid I wanted to learn German. I spent several years learning German in high school and in college. I was an exchange student and lived several years in Germany. After all that I can now re-watch all these shows and understand the German speakers. I can even tell which ones are native speakers or not just by their accents. It was years of a lot of hard work just to understand TV German. LOL.

What a concidence. I spent a year at the Uni HD, 82-83. After I graduated college in the US I went back to HD for 2.5 years 87-89, and worked as a waiter over at the NCO club at PHV and traveled around Europe in the summers. I heard a lot of the bases around HD have been shut down. I lived on Rohrbacher Str. Where in HD did you live? 30 years in HD? One of the nicest places to live in the world.

It took a long long time for the German people to recognize the heroism of those officers who tried many times to put a stop to Hitler's madness. This particular episode alludes to the July 20th ?, 1944 plot that ended up costing thousands of German officers, members of their families, friends, ect. their lives or freedom at the hands of the Gestapo.

Dumbo stuffenberg only needed to place the 2nd explosive in the satchel...did not need to "arm" it...extra explosive would have killed Hitler...instead he threw it in the woods as he escaped the compound...granted the pressure must have been excruciating.

I was in K Town from 88-91. Ramstein Air Base. We were Army Air Defense and covered 3 air bases. Ramstein, Zwiebruken and Sembach. Surface to air versions of the AIM-9, Vulcan 20 mm cannons (Army equivalent of the Navy PHALANX), STINGER Man portable shoulder fired missiles and FAAR RADAR'S. We also had the latest IFF. Did the same in Korea before that. Proud of my service and the soldiers that served with me! 23 years active duty. 2 combat deployments , 1 as a PATRIOT Battery 1SG in Saudi Arabia and another as a PATRIOT Task Force CSM in Kuwait.

I've noticed that throughout history, most successful acts of genocide took those people who were being exterminated had been demoralized by their captors to the point where they wouldn't even attempt to regain their freedom. Even today in most of the Muslim states, and cultures where women are still treated as the property of their husbands, people are moved much like cattle. With only lightly armed guards in charge of 25 or 30 captives. There's no way they'd be able to hold a large number of Americans that way, because of the freedom instilled in us as children. Americans being held by only 2 armed guards in a group that outnumbered their captors would by nature accept casualties but be compelled to attack and overcome their captors . Watching the reactions of different ethnic groups in these situations, having grown up in our society, which remains the most free in the world, is hard for the American mind to comprehend. While we enjoy the liberty our society teaches us to hold sacred, and encourages all individual Americans to teach others to express desire for, and attempt to achieve in their own societies, those at the top of other countries, societies, and cultures, in government, religion or in some cases, both, - despise the American way of life, because whether the American is abroad with the peace corps, or the United States military, or wealthy business people seeking to gain wealth through accessing foreign markets,- ALL Americans tend to believe that the people they're involved with abroad were also created with the same basic rights as we have, regardless of the persons social status, - at least while they're in their own country. Unfortunately, most foreign governments HATE the level of freedom every individual American is guaranteed under our Constitution.

Depends on pilot, an experienced mustang will almost always win, but against someone like Galland, it can be a 4 on 1 of relatively decent mustang pilots, all shot down

+John Moore The plot seemed convoluted. We know and also knew by 1966 that Hitler died by suicide with his girlfriend Eva Braun in a bunker. Maybe this was originally planned as to be the last episode. For lack of money, but later enough money was found for 10 more episodes.

Surely by now you know there were several attempts to assassinate Hitler in 1944, most notably the July 20 plot involving Colonel Claus von Stauffenburg of the Wehrmacht, which this episode seems to allude to.

I'm betting this was mid 1944 and the attempted bombing at Hitler's east Prussia headquarters known at the Wolf's Lair. If Von Stauffenberg had been willing to be a suicide bomber it might have worked. It was a trestle table and and after he left someone moved the bomb behind the table leg. Just enough to spare Hitler's life. With luck Heidi and the priest died under interrogation. Most of the victims of Hitler's wrath ended up on meat hooks strangled with piano wire. Filmed so Hitler could enjoy watching them die slowly.
