Hello everyone! Hope you are all having a great day. Just wanted to apologize in advance for the unfocused video. I thought that it had focused but I guess it had shifted by the time I started and it is hard to tell when it has gone out of focus due to the fact that the lighting is directly behind it. Unfortunately, due to the nature of these videos, I can't just "reshoot" bad footage, I get one take and so if something gets messed up, I just have to do the best with what I have. But I will work on doing a better job paying attention to the autofocus so this doesn't keep happening. Thanks for watching everyone, ya'll take care!

the "rust around the rim drink it anyways i cut my lip" can be tied to the "it's me i abuse" bit. He can clearly see the can is rusted, and he knows that it's not a good idea to drink out of it, yet he does it anyways.

“Rust around the rim, drink it anyway. I cut my lip” I keep going back to this thing that only hurts me (depression, DEMA, etc). Ties in with the lyric “I keep on going back, even though it’s me I abuse”.

Since I struggle from selfharm and suicidal thoughts myself I can really relate to this song. It's like a cycle "I keep on going back even tough it's me I abuse" because you want it to stop but it's the only Thing you know and youre scared of living without it. Also He drinks even tough He knows theres rust around the rim so He cuts his lip. But it seems as He wants to keep fighting to break out of it. Thats sort of how I interpret this one

i think this song is a double meaning about trying to escape dema, but also his music making process - i think it's kind of similar to chlorine where the chlorine is good in small doses - he knows drinking from the rusty cup is going to cut his lip, but he needs the music in his life so he's going to keep drinking out of the cup, he needs to keep moving and keep making music the part about lean on my pride fits in to that as well - like he doesn't mind that the music beats him up, he's always going to lean on his fans for support i think it's a good idea to go through Trench and then probably hit Level of Concern before the album release date - the older stuff doesn't apply as much it also sounds like they'll have a new single "Choker" released by the end of this week

this song is absolutely beautiful live. such an incredible vibe between the clique and them. it's an amazing experience. Also, not necesarily have to connect everything with dema, even though the songs are in the universe, he's still having his individual struggles. And you need some blurryface songs that also tie into the narrative. Basically, it'll be cool if you continue going in chronological order, it's the easiest path.

The very last song on trench album ""Leave The City"" is where the story ends for trench era. So i see it as the cliffhanger of the storyline. So my advice in doing trench, save that song for last trench song as we head into new TOP era of ""Scaled and Icy"". (OMG so excited for new album!!!)

Tyler is drinking chlorine (it's a metaphor, don't actually drink it). Paul Meany was co-pruducing the Trench album, I think that also had an impact on the record. Yeah, it's about Dema, and navigating through life. Watch the live version, esp. in Canada he sang it a bit different, adding some beautiful vocals. Pride is a group of lions, yeah. So he relies on his family, friends or the fans. Also TOP has plaeyd this song live with Misterwives. "Cut my lip feat. Misterwives". It's also really good, Mandy Lee doing the backing vocals for Tyler.

This, along with Chlorine, are more pertaining to Tyler's experience with writing music. He leans on his pride (the fans) to help him keep going. Because even when he thinks he isn't good enough, or his passion starts to wear him down, the experience of performing and sharing the music in a live setting revives him. "I keep on going back even though it's me I abuse." So yeah, keeping moving along and making music even when it hurts sometimes and the insecurities feel like too much. I THINK I heard him actually say that "Cut My Lip" sort of means the most to him in an interview because of the meaning.

So I didn’t love this song at first but it’s now my fave off trench along with morph. Because these 2 became the soundtrack to my psychi. Rust around the rim - drink it anyway- I know that this is causing me pain & injury but I keep going back to it anyway Lean on my pride - I’m a lion. I see this in the way most do but more this way, like in stressed out latter can be heard as ladder, trapdoor blatant- bleeding. In this I actually hear ‘I’m relying’ ( I have no doubt ty does these things on purpose) so double meaning - I’m relying on my pride (both those around but also my personal pride) to get me through. Lastly know I’ll keep moving also no, I’ll keep moving- in a situation like this hearing this both ways reaffirms the fight to keep going & the stubbornness & strength that you will keep up that movement forward even though you may be hurting yourself to get through it. Sorry that was a bit but this song got me through a hard time that was summed up by it perfectly & I related to it so very much. If you’re in that situation the lyrics stand out & mean so much.

I don’t know the real meaning of this song, when I first heard it, I didn’t like it, but then I fell in love and even invented my own meaning for myself. When I listen to this song, I imagine the desert, I wander through it for a long time and I am terribly thirsty and here I find a can of water, but there is rust around the rim and I think to myself: can I die of thirst just because i'm afraid of cut my lip? Maybe I'm talking nonsense, but it seems to me that rust around the rim is a metaphor for all your problems, life's difficulties and everyone needs to ask themselves the question: will I really let the problems kill myself or will I overcome them for whatever it costs me? And now you probably think: what the hell, of course I will cut my lip to survive, but here is another metaphor for the fact that all your problems are cheap compared to your life.

If you want to do some reading about Dema, here is the stuff they put out on the website before Trench came out regarding Dema, written from a character named Clancy's point of view. There have been multiple references to Clancy being dead in the past few months, including the new album title being an anagram for Clancy is dead. There are a bunch of theories as to just who Clancy is, ranging from a random person, to Tyler, to being an alter ego of one of the bishops (Nico and the Niners being the bishops.) twentyonepilots.fandom.com/wiki/Dmaorg.info
@testimusicali64453 жыл бұрын
Yeah you may have been on the right track. Idk. What the can "is" is couple possibilities so you may be right on what's in the can. I like your Dema theory. The other thing is knowing danger, doing despite, then repercussions. Rust around rim (danger), drink it anyway (despite knowing danger), cut my lip, blood on tongue (repercussions). And later he says "it's me i abuse".

Some of the songs off Trench dont necessarily continue the mythology. I think Cut My Lip is just about Tyler’s own tendency to continuously hurt himself wether it be with actions or thoughts.

i kinda strugfoe with self harm and suicidal thoughts, so the meaning maybe meant something else to me. i saw someone else say something similar and i relate. basically how i think of it is as a cycle of self harm and such. "i keep on going back, even tho its me i abuse" pretty much says it. you know uts bad, yet your still drawn back to it. and you know the rim is rusty, yet you still drink it and hurt yourself. you are bruised and beaten up yet you still fight. you still try to get out of it. and to what you were saying like how the bishops are forcing him to drink something, it could relate to vialism. vialisms a (fake) religion, and it could be similar to how christians drink wine at communion. they are forcing him to practice this religion, even tho he can see its bad for him. the ultimate goal of vialism is to kill yourself and make others feel bad and get it glorified, so that could also be poison their forcing him to drink. his "pride" could be the banditos, and hes still trying to fight it. like, i dont mind what you do to me, i have these banditos, i have my pride to get me through it. (the " i dont mind at all, lean on my pride" line).

Tyler and Josh used to play music with their church band and have even recorded Christian music with them.Their older stuff is way more blatant about religious concepts but gets more vague in more recent work. This is probably for the same reason you see a lot of different interpretations of the lyrics. People can connect with them in their own way and he can reach a lot of people without them feeling like he’s preaching some message. That insight makes it a little easier to interpret some lyrics. In this song the entire thing is a metaphor for him suffering through songwriting (which he references often). Despite this, he decides to continue to take on the burden in order to help others. The chorus is taking from the biblical passage when Jesus is in the garden prior to being taken by Roman guards. He prays and asks God to take the burden he’s about to bare if it’s possible, but if it’s his will then he will face it. The words he uses are “Father take this cup from me.” So with that in mind, it starts to make sense when he says “if you decide all is well.” He feels beaten and bruised when delving into the songwriting process, likely because he doesn’t enjoy really thinking about the issues he addresses in order to reach others (which he also writes about regularly.) So “drink from this cup” is used for a metaphor of “take on this burden.” He knows it’s going to hurt when he writes, but he does it because he believes it’s the right thing to do. “Rust around the rim. Drink it anyway. I cut my lip.” Not saying that’s the only way to look at it (he clearly doesn’t want it to be). Just some clarification for the metaphor he’s using.
@asdband8883 жыл бұрын
I didn't read all the comments. I don't disagree with any of the interpretations. I had another thought. Going deep religion, kind of. Christ with the cup the night before he was betrayed... Maybe... Thoughts??? In the bible he said he wanted good to take the cup away from him and he didn't know if he wanted to do it. The lions are also biblical with Daniel in the lions den, having enough faith. Ponder. It's not all biblical, but I thought it was a possibility.

@@testimusicali6445 I am no scholar, so I wiki'd it: In Daniel 6, Daniel is raised to high office by his royal master Darius the Mede. Daniel's jealous rivals trick Darius into issuing a decree that for thirty days no prayers should be addressed to any god or man but Darius himself; anyone who disobeys this edict is to be thrown to the lions. Daniel continues to pray daily to the God of Israel, and the king, although deeply distressed, must condemn Daniel to death, for the edicts of the Medes and Persians cannot be altered. Hoping for Daniel's deliverance, he has him cast into the pit. At daybreak the king hurries to the place and cries out anxiously, asking if God had saved his friend. Daniel replies that his God had sent an angel to close the jaws of the lions, "because I was found blameless before him". The king commands that those who had conspired against Daniel should be thrown to the lions in his place with their wives and children, and that the whole world should tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. So maybe it's a bit of a stretch, but, hey, lions.
