Oldies Station is my favorite from the album (and in my top 3 songs of all time) because I was going through some serious stuff when Clancy was first released. I didn't listen to it for a while after the album drop though because I heard from fans that it either sucked or was boring or was too sad compared to the rest of them. One night I ran out of skips on Spotify, so I was forced to listen to it during quite possibly the worst month of my life. It was 5 in the morning, and I had planned to pull an all-nighter because why not, and what ensued I don't know how to describe other than it was pure catharsis. I bawled until like 7am and even though I was exhausted during the day it was the one period I felt peace. I'm still working out my troubles and it gets better little by little. It breaks my heart to see the Clique not enjoy it as much as Tyler had hoped we would. To me, it's about accepting that relapses are a crucial part of recovery. I didn't really get that until I heard Oldies Station. I hope one day we all sing along to that beautiful melody as a fandom. Push on through |-/ Also don't get me started on the SAI hate; it slapped even though it was different.

Let’s not forget there also was a lot of hate aired all over social media for Oldies Station when Clancy released. People were posting their rankings and it was almost always last. So, so, so sad. It then suddenly turned 180, I think because “clique” members suddenly realized that this song was for the fans, so now they (and everybody else who wasn’t liking it already) must like this song. Guess that didn’t age well. For me, Oldies Station, is my all time favorite. There I said it. Right from the bat. I can’t describe how this song touches my soul. BUT…I’m 41 years old. Have experienced too much in my life, and dealt with a lot of sh*t. I think this probably is a song you get and understand, when you’re older or at least more “experienced” in life. For the younger generation it’s JUST a song, and can be replaced with something else poppier, groovier of whatever. It’s such a great shame this happened. People tend to remember the negative over the positive, just because our brain is wired that way. I hope this experience hasn’t created a core memory for Tyler and he realizes he touches more hearts than he will ever know with this song ❤.

It's definitely a song that us older fans feel more deeply. We relate to the message of getting older and kind of settling into adulthood. It's my wife's favorite song on Clancy and also currently her favorite song of all songs. She can't help but tear up while listening to it. Haha I think the younger fans just don't relate to it personally yet. They will tho.
@so_much_for_jj3 күн бұрын
I am a younger fan (age 17), and it’s absolutely my all time favorite too. Even though I can’t relate to every single lyric, the parts about getting older give me hope that it will get better and dealing with the garbage in life will get easier someday. I think that the “future’s coming fast” lyric really is intended for younger fans, since I know for me it feels like all of a sudden I’m being forced to make decisions that will affect me for the rest of my life (career, college, etc.) and accept that I won’t be a kid for much longer and soon I’ll have to be responsible for taking care of myself, providing for myself, and being accountable for my own actions. “Nothing in the tank” really does sum up how it feels most of the time haha. I could go on for ages analyzing everything about how this song impacts me, but I don’t want to clog up this comment section, so I’ll save that for my own introspection. Either way, this song has affected me more deeply than any other song in my life. I’ve cried to it so many times, and I’ve been wearing a Push On Through bracelet constantly to remind myself that it will get better. I completely don’t understand the hate for Oldies Station, and I’m heartbroken that a song that means so much to me could be the target of such vitriol from so called “fans.” I’m a pretty new fan, and it is really disheartening to see such toxicity from those who say they love the band.

I'm fascinated with their setlists and when older songs get played is the best thing ever (Forest is literally my favorite song of all time) but getting to the point of booing Oldies Station is insane to me, genuinely made me feel terrible seeing him say that "he knows it's the boring one of the record" when he said that it was one of the songs he was the most excited to play live as soon as the album came out I'm travelling to Colombia in January and seeing them for the first time ever, we'll make them see how much we appreciate every second because we NEVER get shows over here

Watched @NateIsLame video about some of the pre-show behaviour and queue spot entitlement going on at the moment. When paired with this video, it brings about this really sad realisation that at the moment, its only pushy, selfish, overly-obsessive people who even make it to the front where Tyler can actually hear what they have to yell his way. Imagine if some of those who actually spend their downtime quietly digesting and understanding Tyler’s songs were let to be there at the front instead, showing their appreciation, instead of those who’ve spent the whole day loudly nit-picking about where they stand or what song they ‘have to hear’; determined they will settle for nothing less. Twenty One Pilots do not owe anybody anything. They didn't when they started and they don't now. Everything is a gift, and millions of people have expressed their gratitude for the positive impact the band have had on their lives. How, in that scenario, do we end up with this human wall of negativity physically stood between Tyler and those who are nothing but grateful for their seated spot or their spot near the back. Generally I have noticed things are starting to get out of hand; what was once a band on a stage and a devoted fanbase is starting to feel like a fanbase on a stage and a devoted band; who are trying to keep playing for you even when you’re behaving inappropriately (dare I mention some of the circle rushing going on with Trees at the moment??). It’s pathetic and it’s damaging for Tyler and the future of his art. For everyone who didn’t like SAI, you didn’t have to listen, but for everyone who did, sorry, the guys that didn’t like it have basically ensured you’re never getting anything like it again. It’s no wonder Tyler opted to write Trench in isolation, away from external voices. Yes, not all works are great, and naturally the court of public opinion will rank an artists' work, that's normal, that's why songs like Not Today rest peacefully in the live show vaults, no hard feelings. That's not what I'm talking about, and it's not why 'The Craving' - single version had the music video it did. SAI received an unhealthy type of criticism and nastiness that came from people who were unwilling to try to engage with the art in front of them, just like those in the live show unwilling to engage with Oldies Station. SAI isn't my personal favourite album, Oldies isn't my personal favourite song, it doesn't matter, I can engage with them both and understand them and the place they hold. I wouldn't dare yell at Tyler to not play something. I don’t want to comment too much on people’s personal reasons for following the band or attending the shows as it’s a sensitive subject, but I will say that whatever your reason or background, you are a FAN. That means that you’re a person who enjoys the band’s music and is interested in experiencing it live and supporting them if you can. That’s it. You’re NOT the band, or the band’s manager, or creative director, or anything. You’re not above the band and you’re there to experience what you’re given. Ultimately, you’d probably enjoy what you did see and hear more if you spent less time worrying about what you didn’t. [EDIT] Sorry, I realise I didn't actually say thank you for making this video, so thank you. It's a great summary of some real issues starting to stir in the community, I hope what I've said is in some way a good contribution. I don't usually comment on videos but this really moved me.

Babies are naturally egotistical narcissists. Their whole world revolves around having their needs and wants fulfilled. But as you grow, you’re supposed to learn things like empathy, self control and just basically that you are not the center of the universe. You’re suppose to learn how to put other’s needs first sometimes, and that there is real joy and growth to be had for yourself when you’re kind to people. It’s a huge part of growing up, of being a good human. When grown people still act like egotistical narcissistic babies, they can end up hurting the very people who, by their example, are trying to teach them how to be a good, caring , empathetic human.

Thank you for saying how it is. I took my sibling to the concert and being able to see TOP live after not seeing them since 2017 meant so much and it genuinely brought me to tears listening to oldies station because I did grow up. My sibling may not have appreciated it because they are young but I did and I’m glad you do too

He played Oldies Station in Denver for night two and he was so much more positive saying the song was for the fans. You could see the joy in face in saying it during the show. There was no trace of the burden he clearly was trying to hide in the clip in this video. The clip you showed of the crowd booing is so weird to me, especially considering how many people were crying to the song and how many people have an emotional connection to this song. They had a whole part of the show where they played old songs and the fact of the matter is that artists are going to art. They are going to do weird and spontaneous stuff and sometimes that isn't going to agree with what the majority of people want. It is true that they do not have to do what people want and that is part of what makes artists so wonderful, especially in a live theatrical setting.

Oldies Station is my absolute favorite song off Clancy and it’s getting pretty close to just being my favorite twenty one pilots song ever. It is so heartbreaking to see fans react this way and treat a song that is supposed to be a gift to us older fans like it’s nothing and a waste of time. Tyler and Josh and all those who worked together to put together the Clancy Tour deserve much better.

This is the community Tyler has made for us and these “fans” are taking advantage of this😢 There are so many ppl that go to these concerts who didn’t even think they would make it! Tyler and Josh have truly changed our lives and this is how ppl are repaying them!? I won’t continue to rant but I wanted to say thank you for speaking up about this because it is just so disheartening! This whole situation has made me so upset because as a clikkie of 13 years, this song means so much to me. It was the first song I cried to on Clancy. It feels like such a symbol of what we have become over the years. We stayed alive, we pushed on through and look at what we've accomplished. Truly heartbreaking to know that people are so blinded by their faves (it is okay to have faves! Just read the room on this one!) that we've hurt Tyler again.

I live in Denver. The last concert I went to was in 2019 to see NF. He played every song on The Search album and not a single extra. I thought that’s just what artists did, when touring an album. So I was expecting twenty one pilots to play songs from Clancy and that’s it. I was freaking out every single song they played, they played over 30 songs!! They went above and beyond and I couldn’t be more grateful for the show they put on for us.

Personally, I don't think oldies station sounds good for my liking. However, the song tells a very real story of regressive times on your life and times when you make it through. Not only that, but I believe it serves as an open letter to his younger self, with lyrics like "Start a streak you're bound to break. When darkness comes on you, push on through." or "your favorite song is on the oldies station" (which relates to the life mantra of being happy with the tiniest things) or, imo most notably and the most heartwarming one, "you're on the audience on her first dance recital". As somebody who does dancing, that means a lot to me, bc I want for the ppl I love the most to watch my shows every year as it gives me love. I know by experience that the ppl who love you the most are the ppl who always watch them, even though they may not like dancing themselves. And for tyler to find strength in himself to do things like that shows how he is learning to see the light in these things and show his love for others❤ In every fandom, there are black sheep and these ones must have dyed their fur way too dark bc they are are forgetting that the pilots are the masterminds behind all of those songs and the fans ought to praise them, not making them feel worthless. Grow up🥱
@spooky.tattooer4 күн бұрын
The song is about getting older and all the stuff he had to push through to get to where he is now. (Mostly mentally) Hearing our favorite song being played on the OLDIES STATION makes us feel hella old cuz we were most likely in high school when the song came out and now it's an oldies song. The line about being in the crowd at her first dance recital is about his daughter and how fast time went by. I'm sure to him it feels like just yesterday she was just a baby and now she's doing dance recitals. It's crazy how fast time passes when you become an adult.

I got to see TØP for the first time, it was also my first big concert, a little bit ago. It was amazing and they care so much about their music and fans. Oldies Station has such an impactful message and I just know that it’s going to help me “push on through” until I’m old. I love all of the oldies from before Josh was even in the band, but that doesn’t mean I would EVER boo them. Ever. If these “fans” don’t love and support Josh and Tyler in their new endeavors and understand that some things/songs may always stay in the past and never be done again, then you aren’t a fan.
