“Leave me alone...don’t leave me alone” that part ALWAYS gives me goosebumps and tears eyes. It’s just the eventual acceptance. I wanna be alone to deal with all this shit, but I can’t. I can’t be alone. I’ve been through that shit WAY too much.

Tyler said he was not going to tell anyone what happened at the kitchen sink. He said it was something positive. If he told everyone then the moment wouldn't be his purpose. As long as people don't know what happened, he needs to stay alive to be able to share that story. Same with his tattoos. This gives him a reason to stay alive and he wants everyone else to find their purpose or reason to stay alive.

The song is about why you shouldn't commit suicide. "When you’re in the room by yourself trying to decide whether to stay alive, you can tell yourself “I should probably stay alive because I’m the only one who knows the meaning of that thing,” so the logo is an encouragement for people to create. That’s what |-/ means." -Tyler Joseph via Sound Scene Press Yeah, it's his brother, but Tyler has written the lyrics. :) Josh was already in the band. The studio version (this one) is haunting, yet beautiful, you can hear Tyler scream / sing loud. Love it.

It is the picture of a slit wrist, he holds it up in the air at his concerts back in 2014, the one he used.. to say to us “see I did it too, we can get through this together” it is triggering yet it becomes beautiful at the same time.

He was talking about dealing with demons in the song, so he was saying to the demons, “leave me alone, and go away” but then he said “don’t leave me alone” cause maybe he doesn’t want to find out who he is without his demons

What if he’s telling God to leave him alone? But then don’t leave me alone while he’s going through dealing with all of these demons. The mind can go back and forth like that when a person is in that headspace.

When he says “Go away, leave me alone”, I always saw it as how you might act when you’re in a very dark place in life. You push away everyone close to you but really you don’t want them to leave you alone because you need them

I love the kitchen sink line because I’m an early 90s kid. A kitchen sink to me was where I was bathed as a little one. It’s why the “open to interpretation” style lyrics hit so hard I think. Because it might not be what he meant, but it still resonates.

**I think NF can help others to understand this principle in his song “Why.” YES! His brother! If you think that was a long intro, check out Implicit Demand For Proof. I could be wrong, but my interpretation of the “Leave me alone” then the “Don’t leave me alone” means something I deal with constantly. With me, I’ve been hurt and abused so many times in my life, that I have built a wall and push people away so they can’t hurt me. BUT I don’t really want them to go, and I want their support.

I get what you are saying. You might not want someone to help you, but you want to know someone cares enough to ask. To me, it is kind of like people not inviting me to do things because they know I will probably not want to. That is true but I would still like to be asked.

That totally makes sense. For me, I related it to my struggle with depression. My first instinct is to push people away, but I really do need them and don't want to be alone. I love and hate this song. The lyrics in the first verse are such an inspiration to me, but the end does me in every time. My wife passed in 2015 (a few months after I first heard this song) and the "dont leave me alone" gets me every time. Tyler puts so much emotion into his performance, it's hard for me to not get swept up into the moment. I love it too much to stop listening to it, though.

@@dahelsley **Trigger Warning** Same. My husband died in 2018 (2 months shy of our 22nd anniversary, and our daughter was 13). I’m afraid of being alone, too. That’s what has caused me to have the worst depression since May. I’m just now trying to get out of it. This sounds really bad, but if I didn’t have our daughter to raise, I wouldn’t be here either. I’ve had a lifelong battle with depression and anxiety. It’s not fair to lose our soulmates. I still cry, get angry, can barely get out of bed many times recently. It’s not getting easier for me. I dream about rolling over in our bed & see him lying there asleep…then I wake up… I understand the love/hate relationship, too. When Neon Gravestones was released, while it’s about Suicide it’s also about death (he didn’t take his life), so I cried every time I heard it. I ended up putting it on endless repeat while painting to try to come to terms with the song. Exposure theory. Yes, it still gets me from time to time. Tyler is a God given blessing. I know the views of mental illness and suicide is changing in many places, but not where I live. I stand out (my picture, for example. It’s now orange as of last night 😂), post about suicide prevention on fb, etc. and only a few people in a group I’m in respond. I also have a lot of piercings and dress differently. I’m being me, but all that started before my husband died.

@@janagifford8858 Thanks for sharing. We were 2 months shy of our 30th. I don't understand how the pain can be so intense after almost 5 years, but I still have those moments. I've been operating under the premise that repeated exposure will lessen the pain, and slowly but surely, it feels like that's working (just wish it was faster). I absolutely love Neon Gravestones. The darkness in his songs are tempered by positive messages. My absolute favorite is from Holding Onto You where he takes control (not a noose, it's a leash). I don't have any piercings, but after Melinda died, I ended up getting a couple of tattoos (never had one before that). We both loved Disney and Stitch is my favorite, so when I saw a drawing I really loved, I decided to have it with me all the time. So sorry for your loss.

Go away leave me alone - everybody & everything. This gets me everytime - the number of times I’ve just sat there feeling so overwhelmed saying this to myself referring to just everything but in the end that Don’t leave me alone also hits along with the tears. Hasn’t everyone been in that moment just once? Kitchen sink is the song that to me is exactly what twenty one pilots is. Every line of every song can be interpreted by an individual in their own way & no ones meaning is wrong- this is Tyler’s ultimate message

Tyler says he will never reveal what the kitchen sink experience was when he realized 'something'. It will always be a mystery to us. But he said it was positive so i do not think the suicide theory is correct at all. (Some fans think he may have attempted suicide using a noose on the kitchen sink. Really doubt it.) ALTHOUGH behind the scenes of making HOLDING ONTO YOU video he got upset emotionally with the noose scene. But doubt it was bc kitchen sink. I think bc he has issues with suicidality (as shown in many songs). But not the sink.

Love this song. I really like the emotions and the lyrics: A kitchen sink to you is not a kitchen sink to me, no one else is dealing with your demons, and it's hard to understand what others are going through. But if someone like your significant other is shutting you out, know that they probably don't want to. Just be there for them. Goosebumps when he says Don't leave me alone.💚🧡

I believe that the "Leave Me Alone/Don't Leave Me Alone" can have two different interpretations. 1: Tyler is telling people close to him to leave him alone as to not worry them with his problems - a theme that is expanded upon in the song "The Run and Go" - but what he truly wants is those people to stay with him. 2: Tyler is speaking to his demons, begging them to leave him alone, but realizes that he uses his pain and insecurities to contribute to the music and without them, he wouldn't be successful - which is a theme that is expanded upon in a verse of an NF song "I Miss the Days" ('Need to get rid of what's detrimental but it's hard to let go when the thing that hurts you helped you get to your dreams'). This song was on "Regional at Best" and - to my knowledge - was recorded prior to Josh joining, but was released shortly after Josh joined.
