The hoodie was given to him by a fan and it says "Josh's Best Friend." Josh has a matching one. Makes the ending make a little extra sense. Vignette is a word that means a few things, but in this case I feel like it is akin to the framing around a portrait as Tyler talks about tunnel vision and being swallowed by the vignette. Tyler said this song makes the most sense when viewed through the lens of addiction, which he hasn't talked about much in the discography.

Vignette is also a photography technique that darkens or blurs around the edges of the image. That's what I picture and the refrain kind of references that as well. In the live stream from the night they released all the videos he explains that this song is about addiction. If you do more of the videos, it might be cool to do them from the live stream because Tyler and Josh tell a little about the videos and the songs as they go along. They are also very funny. Great reaction! I love this album!!!

I also think he’s referencing the photography technique more than the other meanings. It’s like the darkness is closing in. And I think the use of the spotlight in the dark in the video is a visual of that.

How I understand it, he’s using vignette in the photography sense of the word, the dark area bordering an image. In the context of addiction, I believe he’s saying that he’s fighting the addiction (fighting off the vignette) but it’s winning (visions fade, swallowed by the vignette). Could be a very physical descriptor of drug addiction or something like it causing blackouts

Yes I was intrigued yet kind of alarmed at how many drug references I heard throughout the album. Backslide could be taken that way, the line “running from a thing that I kicked in ‘17” in Snap Back, this entire song, and even Oldies Station perhaps..

Each album does have a color! Vessel is white (Tyler’s white ski mask), Blurryface is red (Tyler’s red beanie), Trench is yellow (the Banditos), Scaled and Icy is blue (Trash the Dragon), and Clancy is red reclaimed/orange (a mix of Trench and Blurryface)

Vignette for me and this song is from photography where you can darken the edges of the corners around the subject of the photo you can do a little bit or a lot, so what’s interesting in the video I think that’s why Tyler’s in a spotlight because that creates a vignette around him with darkness and at some point, the darkness can swallow him up darkness possibly representing addiction or a struggle imo. Vingette here is talking about a black shadowy border around typically a picture which can be translate to either sucumbing to addiction OR because Scaled and Icy didnt do so hot, the pressure of putting out something great again (i love scaled and icy but it didnt do well regardless). And thats why the light in this video is seemingly a flashlight. It has light in the middle but a dark border around it creating... a vingette

the bird cry in the beginning is that of a seagull, which is an animal that symbolizes destruction at the mercy of a loved one - or an unhealthy dependence. given that the song is about addiction, it’s a really nice touch.

Vignette has more than one meaning, though they are all related. It can be an illustration or photo, (the end), or it can be like a shadow (as Tyler dances and fights with his shadow here. Yes, the red is blurryface as is the black on his hands and neck -- Tyler's insecurities.

Additional thoughts, since their lyrics tend to have meaning on meaning “binger” = someone addicted to cocaine. Fresh off a binger = just off drugs. Verses reference to a tribute to zombies, like by doing drugs he has become a walking dead. Also also - It could be just a coincidence that he is dancing in powdery snow in a song referencing cocaine addiction.. In their premiere livestream Tyler stated that vignette is best interpreted through the lens of an addict. This is my personal favorite on the album. I still do not understand what the flesh covered in bites part means exactly.

I hate that I know this.. But one can 'binge' on any substance. Doesn't have to be cocaine, and there are plenty of illicit drugs that are white and powdery. Even heroin, fentanyl and oxycodone. 'Coming off a binger' would be, like you said, the end of a drug binge, a brief 'holiday' of use, whether a weekend or a fortnight. Flesh covered in bites, I think, would be track-marked up and if he really was in the woods, probably covered in bug bites too, plus scuffs and scrapes from stumbling around in the thorn bushes while high. I am 100% certain that a vignette is the most poetic description I have ever heard of a 'nod'.. he's fighting off the vignette, trying to stay conscious, your vision •does• tunnel and the black around the periphery does begin to encroach as your sight narrows and pinpoints and your level of alertness decreases rapidly. What's happening physiologically at this point is that your lungs and your breathing are being depressed drastically, this is why the vignette starts becoming visible; it's very similar to fainting after either hyperventilating or hypoventilating (being a state of breathing much too slowly and too little to the point where your blood oxygen levels start getting super wonky, and also your CO2 levels; when they are both badly imbalanced, the body must knock you out so it can regain its correct rhythms of breathing and heartbeat) I'm sure I forgot some points and got some others wrong. I really hope Tyler is talking about Yahtzee.

Can you even imagine how amazing this song will be live?!? The vocals and drums on this album are incredible! Make sure you catch one of the concerts on the Clancy tour! It will be a special one. I’m so glad they decided to release videos for every song on the album. They have the big budget ones and ones that they just filmed in and around their hometown (Columbus, OH). I think artists like Ren have shown how videos don’t need big budgets, just a lot of creativity.

i know this was uploaded 2 months ago but i just wanted to add my interpretation of the vignette. tyler has said the song is about addiction so I think the vignette is supposed to be a metaphor for dying by overdose, a vignette in photography is the darkness around the image. being swallowed by it is going into the darkness (death)
