Arline Sax was also in Season 1 Episode 12, 'What You Need'. She was a person at the diner at the beginning that got a stain remover for the old pitcher. She was also T'Pring, Spock's unfaithful Betrothed in Amock Time.

I'm surprised no one points out Liz constantly holding some sort of doll in this episode. This could also be another sign of her trying to relieve her stress (possibly through littlespace), as one of these dolls even accompanies her in her nightmares. This sticks out to me, as this particular practice isn't exactly common knowledge in today's age, so to see something like this represented in a show that aired in 1959 is quite unexpected. I should also note that in her dream, she was carrying the clown doll, while when she was boarding the plane, she was carrying the stuffed jaguar. This seems to coincide with her going from breaking a drinking glass to breaking a vase.

I learned something new. This episode is based on an anecdote and that alone is based on other versions of a story. You really feel for Liz in constant fear and anxiety. The idea of knowing your possible fate and if it would happen to you or not is scary to anybody. That fear inspired many modern horror stories like Final Destination like you said. Just imagine if we have the ability to see in the future. It would either help us or make us paranoid. Another excellent video, Anthony!
@FeverDreamlandTheater3 жыл бұрын
That's one of those things, if your future is certain doom, sure we would struggle to change things, but it would also be a living nightmare to go through. Definitely good framework for horror stories. Thanks for watching as usual, always cool hearing from you! Be well man.

I've been watching a lot of the original Twilight Zone series (and some of the reboots, namely 2002) lately, and I think of the stories I've seen, "Twenty Two" is probably one of my favourites. It's a beautifully haunting, minimalist psychological thriller piece with a nerve-jangling twist ending, and though I'm yet to see the rest of the VHS six, the "Shot on Video" look really enhances the creepiness and discomfort here. And yes, I know of the parallels between this episode and the movie Final Destination, which has a similar premise to the plot twist of "Twenty Two".

It's unfortunate that the bean-counters were more concerned with savings than quality. Serling was vocal about how the inadequate budget meant settling for silly effects. An example was the toys used as spacemen in the episode with Agnes Moorehead called " The Invaders. "

Hey Lisa, thanks as always for watching & commenting! I'm glad you mentioned Final Destination because it gives me an excuse to mention some related trivia I did not mention in the review. 😁 In this case, although the story was eerily similar, the writer of Final Destination Jeffrey Reddick was not influenced by TZ. "The original kernel for the idea came on a flight home to Kentucky. I was reading an article about a woman on holiday in Hawaii... her mother called her and said don't get on the plane because I have a bad feeling about it, and she actually got on another plane. The plane she was meant to be on crashed. That really put the idea in my head."

Another great choice. I watched this one again last week in my big re-watch. I'm always impressed by it. Jonathan Harris is particularly good in this one. As you may know, Lost in Space is my favorite sci-fi property of all time. It was interesting seeing him in such a weird role. All the trivia tidbits were great. Didn't know so many of them. As to the film vs. video. I do prefer the look of the film, but there were some darn good episodes shot on video. Some I wish I could trade out with not as good film episodes.

Hey Rob! Lost in Space and Outer Limits are the big two that are my blindspots for classic tv. So for this holiday season I will look into some box sets. Speaking of which I think a Night Gallery season 1 set just came out. The video episodes to me are just as solid as the standard filmed ones. I'm just a geek for the film look, lol. Twenty, Two, Lateness of the hour, Long Distance Call and Night of the Meek were all really good. Going through the six, I think there were only two I was not a big fan of; 'The whole truth' and 'Static', but in both cases, they could have been shot on film and I would feel the about the same. Anyway, thanks as always for the watch & comment! Be well bro!

Another excellent review! A good episode, certainly very eerie and spooky, but not one of my favorites by any means. The videotape episodes are also not my favorites to watch just because of the quality issues, which when these shows look good, it adds even more to their effectiveness in my opinion. I love those glasses that Fredd Wayne had on. Real groovy. Still.. only 3 stars? One scale of 1 to 5.. I would reserve 3 for the episode that were not worth watching. I think there are only two or three in that category. One was a "Big Tall Wish" I hated the ending of the episode so much...That it gets only 3 out of 5 stars... Normally a Twilight Zone episode is a 5 out of 5 stars.. Well, I am a huge fan of the 1960's series, I have read the books and even listened to the radio series based on the 1960s shows. There is magic to be found in almost all of the episodes. Rod Sterling was a genius on so many levels.

I hadn't given it a thought about the video tape quality in this episode until you pointed it out, but I have to say it explains the weird quality the explosion on the airplane has! It's like when you see earlier TV shows filmed in kinescope and everything that shines in it looks like it's burning holes in the picture! A bit of a trivia note with Barbara Nichols. She appeared on an episode of the 70s game show "Celebrity Bowling" along with a rare all female set including Nanette Fabray, Patty Andrews and Marilyn Maxwell! I hate to say it, but although the show says that none of the celebs are professional bowlers, Barbara had to have been the worst! Haha!

I couldn’t watch this one for years ! The nurse scared me too much as a kid . Jonathan Harris is more like his early version of Doctor Smith from Lost In Space so that was unsettling . I have watched it more in recent years and now find a good rather unsettling episode. I think the reason people have that feeling with this one is because we all dream and may have recurring ones ( even when they are this scary. ) In that respect the dream episodes are the ones we can relate to them. I also prefer film but this gave the episode a jarring effect that added to the creepiness. I think I would also give three out of five creepy nurses! A couple of things that last look the flight attendant ( formerly stewardess) gave had always seemed odd to me . I also wish Barbara hadn’t dropped her little stuffed animal! Glad she got off .

It had some fun episodes. I watched it when it originally aired. I have not been able to revisit it as much as I'd like but it's on Tubi at the moment. Ideally I'd like to dip my toes in a top 5 or top 10 favorites list for that series and the other TZ series.

For a long time I didn't understand why some episodes had that weird, fake look. I didn't know about the videotaping. I like to watch Night of the Meek every Christmas though.

Hi Susan, yes Night of the Meek is a regular for me now to at Christmas time. The video-taped ones certainly stood out. Some of those were still so good though i did not mind as much.

Still, the protagonist did not die. Sadly, this actress did die a few years later, from complications of car accidents.

Final Destination much?

This episode would have been great if it had been on film. It's so cheap looking on video tape.
