I repaired one of these a few years ago, and the owner built a 'Marshall' front panel for it. When I asked him why he did that, he said, "I'm tired of taking grief for the amp, and ever since people thought it was a Marshall, they love the tone." I always tell people to listen with their ears, and not their eyes, lest you'll become the people that owner spoke off.

Peavey has a lot of gems that get overlooked. The Classic Series, 6505 series, JSX were/are the primary movers that get the attention from most guitarists. But, the Valveking and Windsor both covered different ends of the rock spectrum and did it well at a great price point. The one that really seems to have been lost to the dust of time is the 2010's era Butcher. Most of the videos on YT are of the old VTM era Butchers.
@ColbyJohnson3032 жыл бұрын
I'm a huge fan of Peavey, I have 11 of them I think? Hard to keep track lol. I am not a fan of the 2000s Butcher though, just never did it for me. Definitely not a high-gain amp like I thought it'd be
@Exavolt2 жыл бұрын
don't forget the triple XXX, alot of people have this false assumption that it's exactly the same as the JSX but with more gain when in reality they are voiced very differently. thanks to that and the cheesy aesthetic that amp is wildly underappreciated. I love mine.

I had the first iteration of the Valveking. I really liked it a lot. I caught some shit for owning one by my other guitar playing compadres. Then they actually heard it and their eyes popped open like “Whoa! Not bad!” I found the trick was even though I didn’t run effects in the effects loop, I would run a patch cable in the loop and it engaged a buffer that really upped the gain in a beefy way and tightened it up.

You mean upped an annoying gain frequency that you couldn't dial out and was an EQ mess, even for a budget line, my other guitarist finally found the light in the form of a 6505+, he understands now what good tone sounds like......
@TheAxe4Ever2 жыл бұрын
@@trephination1 Hmm....sure it boosted the gain. But there is a knob on the amp called a gain knob. I’ve never dined the gain on any amp as many newbies tend to do. The only thing I noticed jumping the effects loop had on the gain was tightening it up. As far as the eq goes. That’s something you’ll learn how to do someday too. I have a few amps now that are much better and more expensive than the Valveking (which I sold a long long time ago.) But sometimes people can’t afford expensive amps and there are other options to be able to get a usable tone until you can afford something else. By the way, a 6505 and 6505+is a great amp if you like the tone of a can of muddy bees. Have a nice day son.

I (very) wrongly based my opinion on the VK2 on the piercing, yet flabby VK mini head. This sounds so much better than the MH that it's tough to believe it's even made by the same company. I may have to try and parlay my VK112 and gen 1 head into a VK2 50 watt combo.
@Bassguitarist1985 Жыл бұрын
I just picked up this head because why not?! 😂 You do not need to jumper the effects loop on the MK II as they corrected the flaw from the MK I. Also the whole dummy plug in the input 2, The circuitry is the same for both heads. If you are using two inputs simultaneously it switches both of them to low gain. I guess the high game with a low impedance resistor isn't ideal for a lot of players with active pickups. The solution would be to just use input 2. Great video Kyle keep up the good work!

I usually step in and suggest my cab when someone shows up with a behringer cab or something loaded with cheap speakers. But if its a decent cab I let the client use their own.

Had the VK 20MH, and I couldn't recommend it more for bedroom players. Superb cleans makes it a very good pedal platform. But it has its shortcomings too: the emulated out is pretty meh, the usb is out only so no playback makes it only useful with Macs and audio interface binding. But I found running the clean channel and running the FX send into audio interface makes it sound way better in recordings using VSTs. Overall it's hard to beat for the price and I'm pretty sure the clean channel alone makes this amp just as good as any other lunchbox-type amps!
