I genuinely love the flavour of this class. to me, when I read the description, it makes me think of that feeling you get while you're out camping, sitting on a beach or in front of a campfire while the sun sets. those vibes are absolutely my shit, and overall it's one of my favorite subclasses

I started a campaign with a Twilight Cleric of Illmater (RIP that campaign). I took the "horrors of the night" to be a more metaphorical concept - the darkness of your struggles, your "darkest days". Playing it with that made it all make more sense, especially when the god I used stands for sacrificing yourself (your possessions, your health, etc.) to help others and make their lives better.
@MonstersMulticlass3 жыл бұрын
I love that. And that's much more interesting flavor than "werewolves and vampires" I played a paladin of Illmater back in our Out of the Abyss campaign and I loved it. I could see that as a twilight cleric being a great RP pillar to help the other PCs in times of struggle. Sorry the campaign died. Maybe we can get the cleric back in a one shot some time!

I just built a Twilight Cleric for an explorer campaign. He is a night watchman. “Horrors of the night” I took like Melisandre from GoT. “The night is dark and full of terrors.” He’s charged with night time excursions from the colony to watch over the adventuring party.

You know, it'd be one thing if the channel divinity didn't create dim light but they really just had to go and do it all. I gotta say, I think it's most egregious how powerful this subclass is so early on. On some other classes you at least need to be level 10 before it really gets wild but this is a class you get to Uber Powerful a fair amount before you're close to finishing any length of campaign. Whoever designed the subclasses for cleric for Tashas is absolutely on some power level no one can stop them

@@MonstersMulticlass Am I confused on this? Wouldn't casting Dim Light in an already lit area do nothing? This would only be practical if you were in pitch darkness. As you guys said earlier in the video, it's already really easy to make dim light. Pretty much any class could convert pitch blackness to dim light. Edit: NVM, listened ahead and you addressed that, and yeah I guess it doesn't really sound like it makes a difference to me. There's tons of practical ways to make dim light, some of which are probably easier than channel divinity just so you can fly . .

I built Elephant Man, Shadow Knight of Justice (like batman, but a Loxodon). Twilight Cleric 6, Shadow Sorcerer 6, and Genie Warlock 8. (He uses disguise self warlock invocation in order to have his persona (Bruce Bane). His genie ring is his "Elephant Cave", and he has Pact of the Chain with an Imp named Alfred. He literally Flies around, wearing plate Armour, in a shadow of magical darkness, blasting enemies with maxed Eldritch Blast, but then he has tones of utility magic, cantrips, healing and flavor magic like Gaseous Form and Meld into Stone. So much Fun :D

For the that steps of the night flight ability, As a DM i rule it as written it stays for the full minute after you leave the dim light, since tempest clerics have it specifically writen once they are indoors or underground they lose their fly speed.

The Sage Advice Compendium has a section that talks about what is a magical effect. There are several different criteria listed in it, but one of them is if says the word "magical" then its a magical effect. It's answered in the question "Is the breath weapon of a dragon magical?" So in the case of Frightful Presence I'd say its not magical because its an ability that isn't described as being magical.

I agree. If it becomes mechanically problematic, re-balance your encounters, which you are mostly likely doing already. I say this as a DM who also has a new twilight cleric I recently started playing in another game. I decided on her subclass purely based on theme before I knew how "broken" it was. As an animal nerd, a twilight owlfolk is what sounded super exciting for me to play RP wise. I'm thrilled my DM is nothing but supportive and happy to rebalance encounters if needed to make sure the game is still challenging and fun 🥰

In regards to dim light, I would say that if the sun (or source of roughly equivalent brightness) is visible in the sky while outdoors, then it is not dim light. If that source of light is obstructed (below the horizon, and thus twilight, for example), or is noticeably less bright than sunlight, then it is dim light condition for the Twilight cleric. Indoors, if it's a room lit by natural light but the source of light is not visible, then it is dim light. If it is a windowless room without light illuminating it to at least roughly the equivalent to the sun just above the horizon, then it is dim light. So, dim light for a twilight cleric doesn't necessarily have to be near dark conditions. It simply needs to meet twilight conditions. As an aside, I can see dangerous situations for a twilight cleric using this ability. Maybe it's temporarily twilight conditions due to very heavy cloud cover that breaks, or someone casts sunlight or something. I expect that the hapless cleric would drop out of the sky a stone.

I just started a campaign as a Twilight Cleric. I really like the concept. My character’s birth name was Rosaline Wolfe and she of a changeling who is a member of a large organized crime family called the Wolfe clan. She takes refuge in an order of twilight clerics and becomes a cleric herself. She changes her name to Briar Ewe and forges a new appearance and identity aided by the fact she’s a chanegling the this transition/rebirth is quite convincing. However she has tattoos from before she left her family making it impossible for her to truly discard her past. Thus she’s lives on like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Could you comment on 6lvl shadow monk and the remaining progression on the twilight cleric? Besides mobility, is it worth? Spirit shroud for instance with multiple attacks...
@MonstersMulticlass3 жыл бұрын
You probably wouldn't get a ton of use out of the Shadow arts ability. Though...it just doesnt have much use anyways. That class is really undertuned. I COULD see 6 levels in shadow monk for shadow step, and then 2 levels in twilight cleric for all of that goodness. Wis is at least 13 with monk easily, you get some spell casting, get all of the amazing features from twilight. And then yeah you get the mobility of shadow step which is just really cool. I wouldn't do a dip into monk for it by any means. But if you were already monk and wanted to have some religious connection then I think it'd be awesome.

Like a banishment spell? Have a (monk?) Minion grapple and drag the cleric away. Could it work with dominate person? So the baddy now has someone who heals and his minions? Of course home brewing a monster that steals temp hp will work, but the warlock might throw a book at you.

Dispel Magic, like Counterspell, specifically and only works on *spells* and no other magical effects, no matter how spell-like they appear. See the relevant sage advice. If it's not a spell in the PHB (or Xanathar's, or Tasha's, etc.) with a level and a school and so on, Dispel Magic doesn't do anything to it. That said, if your DM wants to be more generous with it, great.

While yes it was said mostly in jest, I will say that the ambiguity there works well in real life where those terrors aren't real. But in d&d you can just give examples.
