I think the best part of this song is that it reflects the theme of the entire game. It's a much sadder, darker tone introduced at the beginning, and it transforms this originally delightful and happy song into this melancholic, reflective, and slightly nostalgic song.

Aaron Baker Unfortunately the game fails to keep the gloom feeling effective throughout the game, like it was trying too hard to be dark and creepy.
@OkMazzy7 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ, I loved every bit of it. I didn't think of it as a game "trying" to be creepy. I thought of it as wind wakers foil. Whilst WW was happy and cartoonish, TP is unhappy and dark. The themes fit appropriately.

TP is not the best Zelda game but I disagree that it's not effective at portraying a mood. When it comes to atmosphere, I think this game succeeds best of them all. It's very consistent when it comes to tone and aesthetic. It also has great music and sound effects and the more realistic graphics and colour scheme helps immerse you in the game to get that mysterious and lonely feeling Link experiences. This particular Link has one of the saddest lives of all … He's not uncontested of course, OoT Link's life is also pretty bad. But TP Link is just thrown into a scary adventure after having lived a safe life in the country his entire life, the children who idolize him are kidnapped, he's transformed into a wolf without knowing if he will ever be able to become human again, Midna is mean to him at the beginning, he has to take on an enormous responsibility just because some people he's only recently met tell him he's the chosen one, and then when he's finally done with the adventure and he and Midna have become close friends she breaks the only passage between their worlds. You can imagine he would be pretty shook by all of these events.

The addition of the Sacred Grove meant so much to me. Seeing how the Temple of Time (arguably the most memorable area of OoT) is slowly progressing to a state reminiscent how we found the Sacred Grove in the middle of the Lost Woods in LttP was unexpected, nostalgic, and incredibly awe inspiring. This game was amazing.

There was always a feeling of melancholy attached to this song for me in this particular game. The Hyrule depicted in Twilight Princess is reminiscent of the Hyrule from OOT, only in a much worse state. The whole game felt like you were trying to fix the world while living in the shadow of the Link from the OOT era, trying to live up to what he had become. This song drove that feeling home for me.. like you the hero of a lost world, struggling to restore it to its former glory.

That's so perfectly put. I know lots of people hate Twilight Princess, but this is exactly why I loved it so much. Aside from the overt "dark" aspects of the game, the whole place seemed like it was either paralyzed by fear, or otherwise overrun and abandoned. There was a profound feeling that came with the game play, especially mingled with genuine nostalgia for older Zelda games.
@AngryNerdBird12 жыл бұрын
Agreed. A LOT of the value of this game was the throwbacks to Ocarina of Time. Majora's Mask was my favorite of the N64 Titles, but this game really built upon the story of OoT in such a beautiful way. The whole bit in the Sacred Grove was very nostalgic, but also new in a really fun way.

You are correct! The main melody is still the same, but the accompaniments completely change the feel of it. The original was a very childish, enthusiastic, energetic melody. The newer song is slower, but also feels darker, more mysterious, and I want to say it evokes a sense of danger, almost. It is very neat how the accompaniments make the song so different in ways that are subtle, yet aren't.

“The flow of time is always cruel. Its speed seems different for each person, but no one can change it… A thing that doesn't change with time is a memory of younger days.” take this out of context, think about its deep meaning, and it could blow your mind. Even for the series itself. Few will ever know or love Phantom Hourglass because of how much time has passed, but it will always bring me memories of my childhood days. I would like to have, learn, and find as much wisdom as I can. Peace ✌️.
