I think that what I finally have the words to say about Twin Peaks, and all of Lynch’s work really, is that you can *feel* what it means in your guts but the more you try to assemble it into a coherent narrative, the more it just slips away. Like a dream. Like life. We are living in a dream.

The great thing about the abstract, open-ended finale is that you can picture all of these different and unique scenarios. My own interpretation is that Cooper didn't really leave The Lodge until episode 18. There's an FBI pin on Cooper's lapel that only appears during certain scenes this season. It's there before he gets sucked into the electrical outlet, but then it disappears when he materializes in Las Vegas. The pin makes a reappearance after the scene in the Sheriff's station where everything becomes black. My theory is that the Cooper with the pin is the real Cooper, and that the Cooper without the pin is a dream Cooper. Basically I think that there is a dream being projected into the mind of the real Cooper while he is in The Lodge, and the "Dougie" Cooper we see from episodes 3 to 17 is a projection that the real Cooper is controlling from within The Lodge. I think basically the whole season was a dream. But, I think that dreams that happen from within The Lodge actually happen in the real world, because The Lodge is such a mysterious place of power, and it's possible that dreams in The Lodge have a real effect on reality, or those dreams even create realities. That would certainly be an amazing power, and it would make sense why people like Windom Earle wanted to find The Lodge, so that they could use that power. By the way, I just say "The Lodge", because I believe the White and Black Lodges are two sides of the same coin, and that they basically occupy the same space (which is why there are both dark and light lines on the floor). The Giant even appears to Cooper in The Lodge at the end of season 2 and he says "One and the same". Anyways, I think it's actually The Fireman who was projecting this dream into Cooper's mind, because there's a lot of stuff that goes on this season that I doubt would come from Cooper's subconscious - such as the origin story of Judy and Bob. I believe a lot of this season / dream was The Fireman informing Cooper of things he needed to know. But like I said, I think these Lodge dreams have a real effect on the world. After all, we clearly saw "real" results from the events taking place in the dream - such as the doppelganger ending up back in the lodge, and Diane being "awoken" (which is why she was waiting for him when he REALLY exited the lodge at the beginning of Episode 18). I mean, the arm did tell Cooper that he couldn't leave until his doppelganger returned, so of course Cooper never really left in Episode 3. I also believe that beings that reside in the lodge basically live on forever, which is why Mike wanted to have Laura put on the ring, so that she would live on after Bob killed her (I believe Mike works for The Fireman, because he talks about seeing the face of God and being changed). Laura even appears to Dale this season and says "I am dead, and yet I live". I think her essence being a part of The Lodge is what made it possible for Cooper to travel back in time and alter her past. I also think that Cooper is actually a denizen of the White Lodge. I think the power to dream and alter reality would be reserved for the ascended beings that reside in the White Lodge. Also, the ending of FWWM with the Angel seems to indicate that Cooper had become an Agent of the White Lodge, and was helping Laura's essence ascend to the White Lodge. Laura is certainly a denizen of the White Lodge in this season, since she opens her face and you see a pure, white light. And another reason I think Dale is actually a denizen of the White Lodge is that Dale talks about Major Briggs (a denizen of the White Lodge) talking to him, and telling him things - like where to find the room key that would lead him to Phillip Jeffries (so Major Briggs could also be partly influencing this dream). We certainly see Cooper in the White Lodge talking to the Fireman (although he doesn't have his pin, but I believe that scene takes place right before the projection / dream version is transferred back to the real Cooper in the scene where he tells Diane to wait for him outside of the curtains). In that scene, the Fireman does say to Cooper "It is in OUR house now", meaning the Cooper is indeed a resident of the White Lodge. And I think The Fireman is talking about Judy now being a part of the White Lodge, which fits with a theory I have about a "Gray Lodge". I think any part of the White Lodge that Judy inhabits would become Gray, with the Mix of the Lodge's lightness and her darkness. I think Judy took a part of the White Lodge, and created the "Gray Lodge", which she trapped Laura in (snatching her away when Cooper was trying to lead her back home). When this happens, The Fireman tells Cooper to travel to the Gray Lodge with Diane, to become Richard and Linda, and kill two birds with one stone by sealing the portal with the act of making love (a ritual that is explained in Mark Frost's book), and to find Laura and try to destroy Judy with Laura. The Fireman did create Laura to destroy Judy, which is why I think Judy sent her son (Bob) to kill Laura, and Bob was also sent to possess Cooper, because Judy knew Cooper would be an Agent of the White Lodge / The Fireman. If you're wondering why Judy just can't kill Laura or Dale, like I said, I don't think she can truly kill anyone who has become a part of The Lodge. That's why there's a shot of Sarah (possessed by Judy) smashing Laura's picture, yet the picture never tears. She's of course mad in that scene, because she can sense the two biggest dangers to her existence (Dale and Laura) coming together. Anyways, here are some reasons that I think that world in the last episodes is basically a "Gray Lodge". People in this reality seem to be an even mix of their dark and light sides. Cooper sees the Horse on Laura's mantle, and I believe that Horse represents a "middle ground". "The Horse is the white of the eyes, and the dark within." Cooper in this reality is cold towards Diane, and the first thing he says to her is "turn the light off". Also, I swear his eyes are dark again during the love making scene. When he wakes up, the motel has changed from a one level motel into a two level motel, so basically another layer was added (the darkness). In the restaurant, Cooper drinks the coffee, but isn't thrilled with it. He saves the waitress, but is very brutal about it. He then demands that she write down something for him, and he's holding a gun while doing that, but he never points it directly at her. Cooper also chooses to ignore the dead body in Laura's house. Laura herself, and all of the other people in this world seem to also be even mixes of evil and good. Laura did kill someone, after all, and you have people like the old couple at the restaurant acting nonchalant about the violence, and the woman at the Palmer house being really cold towards Cooper, while also being helpful. I basically think this world has been corrupted with Judy's wrath, because "Odessa" stands for "Wrathful", and Odessa is where Laura was placed. Odessa also comes from the word "Odyssey", and this is apparently Cooper's last obstacle to complete his mission. I also love the symbolism of them driving by the Double R Diner when it's closed down. This is a place that brought Cooper a lot of joy, and while that place still exists, there is now a darkness within it. I think that sums up the world they're in. The long, silent driving scenes are also something that became synonymous with Mr. C, and he doesn't even respond to Laura when she's talking to him. The "two birds with one stone" saying may also refer to both episodes being released at once, and basically how they're both just non-linear parts of the same ending, like puzzle pieces that are need to be put in their proper place. "Is it future or is it past?". Some people even theorize that the true last scene of the series is in the Sheriff's office, and that the reunion between Diane and Cooper in that scene happened after the events of the "Richard and Linda" or "Gray Lodge" world, and that the ending is basically that timeline being reset, because Laura was saved and Judy was destroyed, so Cooper never ended up going to Twin Peaks, so all of the events of Seasons 1 and 2 and Fire Walk With Me never happened. Anyways, it's fun talking about different theories. I don't know which theory I like best, yet. Some are very depressing. Even the theory that Cooper succeeded is depressing in many ways, since it basically means that Seasons 1, 2 and FWWM didn't happen. I'm hoping that it is just the case and Cooper and Laura are trapped in this "Gray" world. I think "Richard" is the most fascinating incarnation of Cooper. It would be really interesting to see more of this Cooper, who is basically a vessel for both the good and evil Coopers. It could be that Judy knew the best way to neutralize the people who threaten her most, Laura and Cooper, was to trap them in a world where they would constantly be struggling between their light and dark selves. That's an exciting concept if you ask me, and something that would be worth exploring in a future season.

Very nice! There is a big point in favor of your theory that dreams in the Lodge are very powerful and can affect reality: Laura Palmer. In episode 8 we clearly see that the essence of Laura (the golden orb) is nothing but a dream of the Fireman. Laura's presence in the world is a product of a dream made in the Lodge.

Also, another reason I think that it's The Fireman projecting the dream into Cooper is that Dougie, or the Dream Cooper, has a lime green suit at first, similar to the lime green glove that The Fireman gave to Freddy. The Great Northern Room Key also has a green keychain, and not only is that key used to find Phillip Jeffries, but it also saves Dream Cooper's life when he avoids being seen by the assassin because he drops the key and bends down to pick it up. There seems to be a theme of the color Green being tied to The Fireman, or to any kind of "interference" from beings within The Lodge. I just thought of another scene involving green, where the co-worker who is mad about Dougie getting his coffee tries the green tea latte instead, and he ends up really liking it. It was important that he gave up his coffee for Dougie, because I believe the coffee was instrumental in making Cooper remember himself. The ring is also green, and that ring is certainly something that connects The Lodge and the real world (transporting whoever wears it into The Lodge). Even the prostitute who helps Dream Cooper when he first returns is named "Jade". People may wonder why Dream Cooper had to leave The Lodge in such an insane way, and I think it's simply the case that Judy found out about The Fireman's plan to send out Dream Cooper, and she tried to interfere (and that's her banging on the door in the room with the fireplace and the electrical outlet). I hear a lot of people being upset about there being too much Dougie and not enough Cooper this season, but I think it was necessary to keep the Dream Cooper alive. Cooper tries to leave through the outlet when it says 15 (the episode when we finally get Cooper back), but Diane stops him, because we're only on episode 3, so he can't leave yet. So I believe it was The Fireman's plan to have the Dream Cooper come back in episode 15, but they had to readjust because of the interference from Judy, and he instead escaped in episode 3 (when the outlet says 3). I think he had to remain Dougie to keep a low profile, otherwise Mr. C's goons would have assassinated him. Also if Cooper really returned so soon, then the plan would have failed, since the events wouldn't have lined up properly (with Cooper returning to Twin Peaks right after Mr. C is shot by Lucy). That's also why we see a lot of interference from The Lodge to keep Dougie alive, because he wasn't supposed to be out yet. Of course we see Dougie receiving messages and guidance from The Lodge, but I also think people like Candie and the guy who kills Hutch and Chantal were spirits from The Lodge. That bald guy was of course eliminating a threat to Cooper by killing Hutch and Chantal, and I think Candie was meant to change and influence the hearts of the Mitchum brothers (and the scene of her chasing the fly is symbolic of her trying to eliminate their "unclean" side). Candie certainly acts like a spirit of The Lodge, who is most likely experiencing the real world for the first time. She may have even been responsible for making Bradley Mitchum have the dream that kept him from killing Dougie, and I'm sure The Fireman knew that Cooper would need the help of the Mitchum brothers when it came time for him to return to Twin Peaks in a quick manner. I just personally believe that there are a lot of signs that support my theory that most of the season was a dream being controlled by The Fireman, and other agents of The Lodge, including Cooper himself. The Fireman and Major Briggs were certainly working together to make sure that the Twin Peaks officers would find Diane, and that Andy would arrive at that portal so that The Fireman could tell Andy what he needed to know. I also think that The Log Lady's husband is a denizen of The Lodge, and that he was telling her what she needed to know, and she passed that information on to Hawk. Of course, any answers I give are just theories based on my own intuition - and that's all you're going to get with Lynch. He wants us to use our intuition to come to our own conclusions.

This is why I don't think that is really Cooper in episode 18. Mr C's objective was to not go back to the Black Lodge. In order to do that he needed to win over Judy and prove himself to be a more capable partner for her than Bob. Bob was evil but he wasn't nearly as conniving or much for plotting. That was Judy telling Mr C he was going to return to the Lodge and she would be reunited with Bob again. But Bob is now dead, and Mr C just brought Judy Laura Palmer. Mr C was the one that wanted to find Judy and Judy is trying to find Laura. The Giant swiped left on Mr C and sent him to the sheriff station and he seemed to have died.... but when Dale crosses over with Diane he is changed. Like the dark version of Dale is back inside of him and could separate from him again, sending Dale back to the Lodge and leaving Mr C there with Judy who I can only presume wants to incorporate her body. I think Judy was stuck in a time loop by the Giant, "it's in our house now", with the boxing match on a never ending loop and a buzzing at the door. But when Mr C brought Laura to the house Judy was able to locate Laura in space and time and then traveled through there via electricity. When Laura screamed I think she saw Judy's natural form as it arrived inside the house. She is about to come through the door as Sarah and collect her prized gift, delivered to her on a silver platter. Judy can't destroy Laura, but she can possess her, like Laura told Dale "sometimes my arms bend back". Laura has a dark Mr C presence inside of her too and Judy is able to tap into that power. The real Dale and Laura will be stuck in the Lodge while "Richard" Mr C and "Carrie Page" Judy will become the new dark force threat unleashed on mankind. Audrey is also a Lodge entity. I think she is a representation of Senorita Dido. Audrey sensed that she was living in a dream and felt the moment Dale altered reality. I think Audrey/Dido is somehow the driver of the dream but has no control of it, and the dream can be manipulated by the Lodge entities.

I don't care what people say about Jamie Lee Curtis - Sheryl Lee imo is the true scream queen. Hands down one of, if not -the- scariest experience I have ever witnessed on TV. Granted, I was still in my teens back then and have seen fairly little yet, but even now, that bonechilling scream is on a completely new level. Sometimes you don't need to see some horrifying inhuman creation or a prop to make things scary. Sure, the doppelganger eyes added to the effect, but it's still 99% in the scream, it felt like ripping reality apart with some pure malevolence in the Red Room scene.

The Black Lodge appears to be Purgatory. The Arm refers to his residence as the Waiting Room. I interpret "Fire Walk With Me" as Laura finally finding peace and ascending into a new reality. Season 3 throws this away by having a tormented Laura being pulled into space by an unseen force.

Great edit. Lots of great connections there. Thanks for connecting the poems. That stood out to me in the new season. The woodsmen speaking in poetry. The "this is the water and this is the well" phrasing immediately reminded me of the "fire walk with me" poem. The white horse is a symbol of the mother's denial when she is met with the reality of domestic abuse. "The whites of the eyes" refers to looking away. "Drink full and descend" refers to alcoholism.

My feeling is that David Lynch is not going to announcing anything at the moment, and especially when that dossier is coming out in October. He is going to let this simmer, let the fans try to connect the dots (and to his own enjoyment). But I feel sometime in 2018 (or even the possibility of late 2017), that he will announce that the saga will continue! Fingers crossed!

In many theories people suggest that "Cooper wakes up in a different motel". No. Cooper wakes up in a same room he had sex with Diane. But in the NEXT scene (when cooper exits some another hotel) the motel is different, door is different, door opens in different direction, window is on the different side of the door. (if you compare the room where Cooper WAKES UP to the room which Cooper EXITS). So the "leaving a motel scene" may not actually happen right after "waking up in motel" scene in real timeline. Even though Lynch shows them one after another.

Love this edit! Amazing job!! Cooper's "Huh" is first heard in reverse, but in the last episode, maybe normally with a question mark. But he seems to be still in reverse with all whisper/scream/kiss scenes with Laura I think the ending of this season could be also taken as our beginning to start studying through rewatches, especially all 18 EPs in order, to get the right flow of events going. During my rewatch from 1 to last, i got to understand a lot of minor things that weren't noticeable watching it weekly, because it had been a while and i had forgotten some details. Small things like, after Cooper's two scenes of leaving through Red Curtains and the electric box, with his tilted head expression, we get another funny scene when he is DougieCoop in the car and is asked to get off, he makes the same expression and it's hilarious. I got to know more of the Cooper in him than just the child-like state. He was sometimes struggling to do certain tasks and noticing things around him and references to the past. Its really great experiencing that journey on a rewatch, you understand better and when you reach the point of him hearing the name Gordon Cole, its really hilarious.

If we consider that time isn't linear which Lynch makes quite obvious then it's likely that all these big moments happen at 2:53 over and over again. different versions in a time loop of sorts. Just thinking out loud

I believe Coop leaves Vegas at 2:53, which I would assume means time has actually stopped at that point (at least for coop) since it is 2:53 at the twin peaks sheriff station at the end.

Kevin Crivelli I don't know what I think at this point, lol! Just an observation, but def an idea I had had. I just wonder though, since time doesn't seem to pass the same in the Waiting Room/Black Lodge, maybe it's always 2:53 in the spirit realm relative to our reality? The easiest interpretation is that he is in the Buddhist Afterlife stuck repeating the same moments over and over. But I don't like that interpretation, I honestly think there is something deeper going on, with some sort of underlying conspiracy. Like I wonder if Cooper wasn't used by Bob to release Judy into our dimension of existence. Because it doesn't seem like Sarah is possessed at the beginning. Just paranoid and depressed. But starting with the grocery store scene she starts changing and by the time hawk visits her she is a completely different person. Maybe to destroy the force of good that is Laura? But I can't help think about the convo Evil Coop has on that weird sat phone when he thinks he is talking to Jeffries at the beginning, once he questions if it is actually Jeffries he is talking to, the person says "I Will Be With Bob Again" and then hangs up. Is that Judy? Maybe Mike? I also wonder if Windom earl wasn't being manipulated to get Coop to the Black Lodge with fear in his heart to trap him, then use his psychic abilities to release Judy (since Judy seems to break through the glass box after Coop is cast away). Sorry, I digress, and apologies for my lack of eloquence this morning. I really need to rewatch from the pilot with a notepad and take notes. What is most likely the case is all realities exist within one another, like a dream within a dream within a dream. Seems to be a pretty regular theme in Lynch works.

I was just thinking a bit about the symmetry between the "mortal" characters and those found in the lodges. In the show, both fire and electricity represent very important life essences. Fire is connected to the primal side, and is concerned with gut reactions, and the Dionysian sense of acting through impulse. Electricity represents will and cunning. It's about control over the creation of fire, and about our bodies, and how our brains function. It is about communication and how we can choose the amount of influence we have over our circumstances. Our ability to manipulate outcome. Bad Coop is constantly looking for, and using electrical devices to achieve his ends. Cell phones, gps trackers, and the security system in the prison come to mind. Lucy, as we know at the start of the Return, doesn't understand cell phones. If the Fireman is a symbol of a force that knows how to combat fire (unchecked impulses), and is thus able to effectively counter Judy, then Lucy is a force standing in the way of technological progress, as well as reason and will (electricty). Her battle with bad Coop even leaves her with scar in the form of knowledge. One more person who understands cell phones. One more sweet innocence swept up in modernity that encroaches in against all enduring possibility.

And as another note, I feel like this new series is an allegory for how Lynch envisions audiences today. That they want the same sad plot, act structure, story-lines pumped into their faces over and over and over again, and they're happy with it. Take the idiot kids in the glass box scenes. They are potentially teased to a glimpse of Cooper returning to their little box, wrapped up neatly for them to view from the safety of their upper east side apartment couch. But no. Some Lynchian nightmare demon pours through and cuts them to pieces, specifically their eyes and ears first, and then destroys their heads, as if to say "sit down and shut the fuck up, kids. This ain't that kind of rodeo." He's handed us a look at what storytelling has become, as well as what it could be simultaneously. A never-ending nightmare loop of tired plot lines threading together and fates intertwining to satisfying conclusion. Cooper loses because he is a character that always wins. In other words, what a snooze fest! Just a few thoughts.

Here's a question for everyone: should Dopple-Leland be trusted? Even if so, he's technically telling the truth-he didn't kill anyone: Normal-Leland did (and at that, it was really BOB). Next, for those who have watched a lot of Lynch, does Laura's hand positioning when she says "meanwhile" resemble anything else we can use to decode it? That is definitely an extremely important piece to the puzzle. I believe one major reason Lynch and Frost had Cooper change the timeline was simply to get certain characters out of the way since the actors are getting older or have since passed on. They can change things and are no longer bound by old continuity. With that, I wonder if what we saw of some characters this season was foreshadowing of what kind of person they will be in the new timeline: Cole may now be some womanizer or someone obsessed with sex (until Dale wakes him up to remember the "unofficial version" again); Ben will be married to Ashley Judd; Jerry will also remember the old timeline because of his "new foot", but will be thought of as crazy; Richard will be Cooper's illegitimate son with Audrey (Richard, Jr.); James will be a real singer (maybe Cooper is now in the timeline Audrey was in before she woke up?)... of course this is likely all just fan fiction, but who knows? Bobby is going to be a bigger player imo. If what Garland said in s2 is taken literally, he was born in the White Lodge and that makes Bobby a partial supernatural being. Whatever that may mean. Big question I have: when did Cooper find out about Judy? Cole says he planned with Cooper, Garland, and Jeffries. Based on how Cooper acted in S1 & 2, it must have been after he was placed in the Waiting Room. That means that Cooper and Jefferies reached out to both Garland and Cole afterward to plan. But why didn't Cooper tell Cole about Doppleganger? Or was Cole playing dumb about Mr. C, and if so, why? A ton of missing pieces here... And are we now to interpret Secret History to be from the final version of events after Cooper is done changing the timelines? Will he eventually go far enough back into time to cause events that will have Pete prefer checkers over chess? And, above all... how's Annie?

And just like that, without uttering a word of commentary, you've given me much to think about! I'm working my way through my own interpretation of the finale (and the entire Twin Peaks franchise for that matter). Just finished reading A Secret History, which on the surface would confuse the heck out of any Twin Peaks fan with its extensive discussion on UFOs ("how relevant is that to understanding the whole Laura Palmer deal anyway? ") But insight in the book sheds some light on how we viewers should approach the entire Twin Peaks franchise: This isn't really about trying make sense of, or even to believe in the mystery surrounding the story, but the evidence is there to bring awareness that the unknown does in fact exist. We are to accept that it does, even if it means we don't understand it or its purpose. So as I continue to unpack the Twin Peaks franchise, I've at least come upon one conclusion: Dale Cooper hasn't accepted, or at least is not satisfied, with realizing that a mystery exists. He is still working to solve it. Laura is trying to tell him that he can't.

It would seem the finale was deliberately crafted to have a few different interpretations and, of course, as a great argument for another, but rather unlikely, S04. Even if a S04 was made, I'm sure that would end in the same vague manner.

I think the screams in the past during FWWM and in the black lodge are the same, but I disagree with that final scream being the same as the others. I'm quite confident it is different. I think that is very important because her black lodge scream seems to be in conjunction with her being ripped out of the timeline in the revised FWWM.. the end scream is otherworldly and very different. Almost like the scream to end all screams. Perhaps even to end Judy (Sarah Palmer or Judy's hold on Sarah). I think Coop accomplished his mission, but unfortunetly also lost a piece of his soul in exchange.

11:00 - "As strange as it sounds, I think you're a girl named Laura Palmer." Not a woman, but a girl. I found this an interesting choice of words, especially considering Coop's last question before the credits roll. I am unsure whether the use of the word 'girl' was just a force of habit on Coop's part, an intentional implication that Carrie's current age is not real somehow, or a symptom of Coop's deepening difficulties with perceiving the situation he is in (typified by his apparent confusion at the Richard and Linda note he found by the motel bed). He also goes on to say, "Your mother's name is Sarah." - is, not was. Well, at Carrie's current age, how can he be sure that her mother is still alive? Anyway, awesome videos, Wow Lynch Wow - really appreciate all your hard work and insights!

Great work putting this together. You have widdled down the narrative to the real crux of the story. I also have started watching TP now from the beginning and have to say, really enjoying it more even after 25 years! This is just an aside and not sure if it's true but I was always struck from the first time watching this show that it reminded me of the old film, "Laura" - about the cop investigating a woman's murder and then falls in love with the dead victim then to find out she is not dead at all. Knowing Lynch loves old movies this may have influenced the original concept of this story and I keep going back to it. Anyway, thanks again for your great work!!

I think that Coop and Diane knew that when they entered the realm at 430, they might not only give up ever getting back to their own world but, might lose their own identities in the process. After their very strange lovemaking Diane did lose or begin to lose her identity. Hence the note from Linda to Richard. Since Coop was reminded by the Giant "Richard and Linda two birds one stone" he managed to keep his true identity and mission. This realm was already affecting Coop, and when he asked "What year is this?" you worry that he is losing it and his quest has failed. Then Carrie/Laura hears Sarah's voice and screams. We are left with the question did Coop succeed or not? I wish I could think of a satisfactory explanation for what is up with Audrey. I do love the way you put together this video.

I noticed that the lyrics from, "Chromatics - Shadow" : "At night I'm driving in your car Pretending that we'll leave this town We're watching all the street lights fade And now you're just a stranger's dream I took your picture from the frame And now you're nothing like you seem Your shadow fell like last night's rain" , which was the closing song of the second episode, the lyrics correspond with episodes 17 & 18. Diane and Cooper and Laura and Cooper driving in the car, cooper face overlaid like a strangers dream and creepy Sarah Palmer took the picture from the frame as she smashed it. Your shadow fell like last night rain, could be a parallel to Cooper facing his shadow self in the black lodge as he loses his latest battle again as Laura screems at the end. Just a thought. PS. I think Lynch and Frost broke me. :) :)

Laura dies and yet she lives. Her spirit is liberated and her memory becomes a symbol which forever changes Twin Peaks. When Laura dies, her friends and family begin to look more closely at themselves and try to become better people, more loving. In the Return, she lives and yet she dies. Carrie Page seemed haunted by a lifetime of running from bad people and repressing pain. Twin Peaks is under a shadow since it's light (Laura) is "erased" . Her friends believe she has forgotten them and they forget her. What's worse than death? A lack of love. Because Laura vanishes all who loved her are tortured by confusion and loss with no direction for redemption. The emptiness/willful ignorance/what we don't talk about "Judy" makes a nest in Sarah Palmer's head. Cooper tries to take her back to help her see her true self again but they find only an empty house and the memory of a ghost. The missing page is full of screams. Black as midnight on a moonless night.

Yes, she remembers something but doesn't quite get what. Her mind had been mostly wiped clean when she was retired from the Fireman's service into her new life as Carrie Page. Cooper, clinging on to his broken memory of "finding Laura", insists she comes to Twin Peaks and she comes ... and then remembers everything, but that was not meant to be, like Cooper realises just before her scream, also remembering what had happened.

Just watched eps 17 and 18 side by side and audio-synced. It really resonated. That was an eye opener. Incredible. I wonder if all of the episodes are paired to be synced like that. Or perhaps are able to dovetailed in any order to sync together. That could explain so many loooong pauses in some scenes empty of dialogue with characters just staring at one another. A multitudinous arrangement that alters your interpretation with each possible combination of episodes. Or what if all 18 episodes can be viewed together simultaneously and each pattern of one hour of action fills a space in the other eps to reveal, as a whole, a single multi-dimensional tapestry. What a concept. Truly a work of artistic genius. Lynch, the transcendental meditator has transcended linear organisation and subverted the entire idea of a linear plot. So much more than television.

eyespy, Synced a lot of weird things happen. For example, Bad Coop enters the portal to the White Lodge/Coop and Diane enter the portal to the alternate universe. Naido starts freaking out when Bad Coop comes out of the portal in the White Lodge/ Diane appears near Glastonbury Grove as Cooper steps out of the Black Lodge. Bad Coop dies and falls to the floor/Coop wakes up "reborn" as Richard. Sarah stabs Lauras painting/"Carrie" hears Sarahs voice and screams. We know that elements of Parts 1 2 and 3 sync, such as Sam/Tracy sneaking in to the Glass Box room as Coop is escaping the Purple Place. Hell even elements of the 2 part premier mirror elements of the two part finale. Sam and Tracy have sex with about 80 minutes left in the premiere/Coop and Diane have sex about 80 minutes into the finale. And both facilitate an otherworldly occurrence. Sam and Tracy "summon" the Experiment in the Glass Box and are killed, Coop and Diane (possibly also "summoning" Experiment) are "reborn" the next day as Richard and Linda and the entire area they were in has changed. There's a lot of symmetry and parallel world stuff going on here.

I think that's the one where Donna receives the page of Laura's diary from Harold via "Mrs Tremond".. Coop makes her read the letter and discovers he and Laura shared the same dream

I don't remember a super-imposed face. What scene is that from? Do you mean when Cooper sees the Giant after solving the murder? I don't think his face is super imposed on the screen at all.

I remember watching the old series halfway through The Return. Another interesting part of that episode (but probably meaningless) is when Richard says "got a light?" Having already seen part 8 of The Return at the time of watching, that certainly piqued my interest.

I'm jumping on the Final Dossier when it comes out. However, I think it's refreshing to have a show that makes us ask more questions than get answers-- it adds to the mystery and mystic of Twin Peaks. Lynch/Frost truly follow the H.P. Lovecraft philosophy of horror: "Show and never explain." This 18-hour film pushed the boundaries of Television (i.e., not worth an Emmy); It deserves an Academy Award.

Note that both TSHOTP and The Final Dossier are 100% Mark Frost's work, and Lynch didn't even read TSHOTP.

Most amazing show ever and most tragic, not only did Cooper lose the prime of his life stuck in a supernatural dimension of which there is potentially no way out, but he was replaced with a evil doppelganger/Bob Hybrid entity and Harry his new best friend would of been for life must have been so confused and saddened by losing his friend and never figuring out what was wrong with him. The added implication of Cooper possibly still being in the lodge in some regard for all of season 3 even is that much more tragic, but hey you go into a black lodge you risk never coming out no matter how "pure" one may be.

Brilliant work Wow Lynch Wow! I think to analyse Twin peaks to even get more out of it we need to see images and sounds from the series in an alternative way, and this collage will help. Dreams, timelines, alternate worlds through images and sounds in repetition of future and past in the series as a whole without explanation is wonderful. "Dreams are occasioned by many causes, by various types of impulses, which are the motive powers behind dream experience. It is not possible to trace back all dreams to a single type of cause. Though it is generally said that a memory of waking life is the cause for the experience in dream, it is only a general statement. It does not mean every kind of dream is caused by memories. Dreams are also caused by other reasons, other factors than what can be merely comprehended by the term 'previous experience'. Someone may be thinking of you very strongly in some distant place. You can have a vision of that person in dream. This is something very strange. If I very strongly think of you, for some reason or the other, you may experience it in your dream, and if the thoughts are intense enough, you may have the same thoughts that I have in my mind at that time. This is because of the intensity of the thought concerned. If the thought of the other person is extremely intense, you may feel that thought even in the waking state, not merely in dream. If the thoughts are powerful enough, even in your waking life you can feel the thoughts of somebody else. These thoughts are communicated to you because of the strength of the thoughts. Generally, such influences are felt more in dream than in waking, because in waking life we have an egoism which is active and which prevents the entry of other thoughts. Your personality is so strong in the waking state, your consciousness of your own self is so intense and your own thoughts influence you to such an extent, that others' thoughts cannot noticeably enter your mind in the waking life, usually. But their entry is easier in dream when the ego is not so active, and their effect is much more in sleep because of the complete withdrawal of the ego in the sleeping condition. Sometimes, other invisible forces may work in your dream if your thoughts during waking in relation to these forces were intense enough". From the The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad translated by Swami Krishnananda

So I was randomly reading the history of pennywise, the clown from the movie "it" and it all sounded veeeeryy fuckeeen familiar, and similar to twin peaks, check it out: "It" arrived in our world in a massive cataclysmic event similar to an asteroid impact, in the place that would much later become Derry, Maine. It apparently originated from an undiscovered void containing and surrounding the entire Universe, a place referred to in the novel as the "Macroverse" It's real name (if, indeed, It has one) is unknown-although at several points in the novel, It claims its true name to be Robert Gray-and is named "It" by the group of children who later confront It. It adopted a pattern of hibernating and waking approximately every 27 to 30 years to kill prey and feast on flesh of innocent children. Whenever It awakens it is always marked by a great and brutal act of violence such as murder or suicide, as the creature was naturally drawn to suffering and tragedy. It's natural form exists in a realm beyond the physical, which It calls the "deadlights" (described as writhing, destructive orange lights). It's natural enemy is "The Turtle," another ancient Macroverse dweller who, eons ago, created our Universe and possibly others. The Turtle appears in King's series The Dark Tower as Maturin, one of the Guardians of the Beam. The series suggests that It, along with the Turtle, are themselves creations of a separate, omnipotent creator referred to as "the Other" (who may be the entity Gan). The Turtle and It are eternal enemies in a battle of creation against consumption.

One connection I just made that I can't explain is between the electric scratching noises, the thing cooper said about how dreams are made, and the line, "But who's the dreamer?" If dreams are made by neural impulses (electricity) in the brain, then could it be possible that a certain portion of the show are actually a dream happening inside the mind of some unknown character? When the electric scratching noise occurs, that could be representative of neural impulses firing off in the brain. The line, "But who's the dreamer?", in my opinion, implies that maybe we're the dream happening inside the mind of some other person (or entity).

FWWM Carl: _"I had a very bad dream last night."_ S3E11 Carl: Magic Flute calls the VW to take Shelly into town -- *his Double is driving* -- "Get out of the shower! ( *water* )" Becky fires into Room 208 (Completion Number: 10, and Palmer House) Camera zooms down the stairs away, just as we see The Jumping Boy pass through Coop in the Finale. The shot of Carl in FWWM stepping out for a smoke is disconcerting, going from a close shot looking at him holding the door open, to what seems his own POV looking down far down the aisle at another trailer, and man on a porch rummaging his pocket cigs -- which is himself, but with his red bathrobe closed. His quiet dissociative trance with Desmond "I never wanted to go anywhere. . ." -- " *Two Chalfonts* , weird huh?" Is too alike S3E18 to ignore. If Harry Dean Stanton's character's bad dream from FWWM at all refers to the proceedings in S3, it could be big; his seeming to have a Double chauffeur, and be witness to Richard Horne's hit-and-run -- where Leland and Laura were accosted by Phillip Gerard behind the stopped _Log_ Truck -- also lends itself to humble appearances deceiving. Finally, _why has Log Lady's Log grown so large in S3?_ And is the Portal William Hastings leads the FBI to in front of the same home Carrie Page is found in by Richard, being that same salmon pink color?

My interpretation of Cooper's "Don't take the ring, Laura" is that Cooper was warning her from taking the ring from The Arm in her dream (when she enters Mrs. Chalfont's painting on her wall), which she unfortunately does (the ring in fact appears in her hand). From that moment on she is condemned: to be possessed by Bob if she doesn't wear the ring or to be killed for garmonbozia if she does. In other words, I think that to "take" the ring and to "wear" it are two different things, and in fact they happen at different times. This would explain why Cooper and Mike SEEM to want Laura to do 2 opposite things. In this interpretation, Mrs. Chalfont would be on the same side of The Arm and thus evil. But in The Return, the evolution of The Arm seems to be an ally of Mike and Cooper... maybe it's an evolution exactly because he changed side, like Mike did when he "saw the face of God" and cut his arm off. If this interpretation is wrong, than the other possibility is that Cooper simply wanted to save Laura from death (he somehow knew what wearing the ring implied), but didn't know that, in that way, Bob would have finally possessed her.

Would Cooper/Laura = god/goddess? The arm transforms after the death of Laura and perhaps saw the error in his ways.

I've always though the Fireman is the god Mike refers to: one of the meaning of his name (which I think is the correct one) is someone who tends a furnace or the fire of a steam engine or steamship; a stoker. Also in episode 8 we are shown that Laura originates from his dreaming.

A theory I am beginning to accept about this whole season 3 is the idea that Cooper never left the lodge. I've heard this called The Bardo from Tibetan mythology. Where between the state of the living and the dead one relives all their past mistakes, fears, hopes.. trying always to make things right but never being able to as the person is in fact in limbo. This theory sits better with me because it leaves my precious season 1-2 and FWWM alone as having actually happened, but takes us on the journey of what Agent Dale Cooper has been doing these last 25 years. Nothing confirms this theory more then the actual last shot of Coop still sitting in the same chair in the red room that he's been in for 25 years with Laura wisperinh in his ear. Perhaps she's saying "you never left this place, you can never leave and you can never save me until you save youself".. just a thought.

I mean Iam a fan of cherry pie and I understand that odd feeling of disappearing, living a whole other life only to go back to where you came from to try to finish things and close old wounds. You’re older, people passed on and here you are with so much more and so much less. So season 3 made sense to me.

I just hope it at least means most of everyone else we say really happened, but yeah I think it's very very likely Cooper never left, which is just 3 times more tragic as heck really the prime years of his life, his friendship with Harry who would have certainly been his new best friend/brother for life, not being able to even start with Annie, he was doomed the second he had to go in that dang Dark lodge it seems!.

My interpretation of the ending is basically despite cooper saving the symbol of light or the white lodge (Laura palmer) they cannot escape the true evil of the story. Like the boxing scene where darkness wins on repeat that is being alluded to. They defeated Bob but he was only a servant of the true evil, Judy. They cross worlds into what seems like the real world to I guess escape Judy but the diner they pass is an indication Judy is already in that works. The lights turning off at the end of the final episode makes me feel like the darkness has arrived to snuff out the light like before, continuing the cycle. Still have no idea what cooper's remark at the end means though.

just 3 thoughts: Two of them deal with the importance of names in the david lynch world. 1. the Wizard of Oz was all a dream at the end. Dorothy was "Judy" "Garland" in real life. Garland Briggs only seems to exist in one world now, a spiritual realm. Connect this with the real owner of the Palmer house being used for the series, it sounds like Lynch and Frost are making a statement about WHAT IS REAL AND WHAT IS NOT based on choosing these names and/or people. 2. Much of twin peaks was shot in france. I don't know if this matters but someone also mentioned the French origin of Tremond. Tremont (i know the spelling is different) means "from the three mountains". Then there is Chalfont. This surname is derived from a geographical locality of Chalfont, two parishes in Buckinghamshire (I know, not in France). My interpretation based on the names is that there were two, now there are three. and this leads me to 3 the last disorganized thought I have... The poem FWWM... The future past could represent the (dark) future of Laura's murder that is now in the past (our past as the audience) yet it is the future because it was erased before it happened. Somewhat paradoxical but this poem has always given me a hard time until now. In order to cross from one world to another, a verbal invitation is given by someone in the spiritual real in the form of a "chanting" of Fire Walk With Me. I have not read too many other theories yet so I am sorry if I am repeating something someone else may have said. Much of this is just starting to hit me as a viewer but I have been reading about TP's for decades so I am sure most of this has been influenced by others' thoughts
