"The Voice of Love" is such a brilliant piece of music. Happy to see you feel the same way about it. I would love if you did a mid season video for the new show; I'm so excited to hear Angelo's new music (on top of everything else about Twin Peaks I'm excited to see return!). Great video. Cheers!

Thank you for posting this. The Twin Peaks soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard, and Twin Peaks is one of the best shows I've ever seen. Just...what a legendary show and soundtrack. I am incredibly excited that it's coming back. Five days! (My personal highlight: Jimmy Scott singing "Sycamore Trees" in the original series finale. Gives me chills just thinking about it.)

Lynch's attention to sound is phenomenal... I also dug the music from the roadhouse. I found it seductive, but made me want to take a shower because it was so gritty.

Every time I start listening to the Twin Peaks album, my brain thinks I'm about to play a final fantasy game. I think Laura Palmer's theme and the FF prelude are written in the same key and ascending notes. But as I keep listening through Laura Palmer, I'm transported to a misty forest with the eerie feeling that the trees are hiding something from me; whereas, the FF prelude is like walking across a crystal pool. Insightful vid, Oliver! link to the Badalamenti interview please :D

The Made in Abyss score is quite the same. The tracks act as queues for situations and the scenes and levels of the Abyss itself as well as the creatures that inhabit it are given complex pieces of music that ebb and flow much like the show itself does. The music is as much a character that tells its own story as any of the characters and themes. One of the best soundtracks of all time. Kevin Penkin is a true underrated master.

Lynch doesn't get enough credit for the music of TP. It is after all a Collaboration between Lynch and Badalamenti. Just like behind the camera, he directed Badalamenti behind his piano to get what he wanted (just like you told). What makes the music so great is his vision, his ideas (like playing the music as slow as possible), he shaped it to a large degree. You have to give Badalamenti a LOT of credit for bringing his vision to life with his musical expertise, but Lynch has his hand very deep in the SOUND of his films which shows most clearly in his sound design for all his projects. He also served as a producer on Twin Peaks, overseeing that specific sound he was searching for, and which still stands out so much after all these years.

Just a question: In your little intro, is that your actual record collection, or just a stock photo? You could also talk about the way David Lynch does things with sound, like his sound design on his first movie Eraserhead (if you don't know about it you should really look it up, it's so cool)

Hey there Oliver, what are your thoughts on the Broadchurch soundtrack? I think it's really good, perhaps not as good as Twin Peaks' but it does something similar. It's composed by Olafur Arnald, the whole point of the question is do you know him? What are your thoughts on his music?

Hey Oliver, can you do a video on how you discover music? As someone not from the UK or US, so my music discovery apart from my own country is from the internet and it feels like i am not digging deep enough and my music taste gets pretty basic from all these top 10 albums from many sites. Even after sources like /mu/ or Piero Scaruffi's lists I feel I am not developing my own tastes and instead feel like my tastes are just an amalgamation or regurgitation of other people's tastes and lists. Don't get me wrong, I explore a lot of music of my own country, goes to small gigs with emerging bands, but the US and UK as a cultural melting pot is where a lot of the innovative stuff can actually get an audience and in turn make the artists seem more validated to make more music that may not appeal to the masses.
