I love Death Grips. They are truly avant-garde in the sense that they're continuously pushing the envelope. For newcomers I'd suggest "I've seen footage" or "Hacker". It's a good introduction to Death Grips.

In Rainbows Agreed, and I’ve been listening to/watching Fantano review music for almost an entire decade now (I’ve followed him longer than any other KZbinr). My love for this channel brings me back to the love I used to have for Anthony’s channel. I still watch and enjoy his content, but the comment section hasn’t been about a love and passion for the music in a long time, and that’s sad. Plus, I just plain like what Oliver covers on this channel; I’m actually introduced to music that has gone under my radar, and is typically really great. His passion for the music is clear, and his writing is very intelligent, and informed. I’ve been telling people for about a year and half now, that this is the best space for lovers of music online. Anyway, I digress.. gotta love, Oliver. ✌🏼 PS - excuse the needledrop comparisons. I know it’s kind of irrelevant, but it’s impossible for me not to think in that context, given that this channel does what Anthony’s did for me in my youth.. ✌🏼

It took me two years to fully understand and appreciate death grips (given i am a very busy music listener) but between the release of bottom less pit and this years ‘Year Of The Snitch’, i dipped in and out of Their discography, sometimes annoyed, mostly confused, but i still knew something was there and had to be there to tap me in the shoulder and then dissapear as soon as I turned around to see what it was that was getting my attention. After hearing YOTS this year and loving it, listen after listen, I decided to go back and listen to the things i had ignored in reverse. Started with bottomless pit in its entirety and not just my personal highlights. Needless to say, i’m all the way to exmilitary with a new appreciation for the band. I don’t know why now, im starting to like and hear things i just wasn’t before, but im glad i went back. And tried to digest what I didn’t or was impatient about with their older material. A friend of mine told me once I opened that box I wouldn’t be able to stop. And I haven’t. Its been DG all day every day since the release back in June.

Blake Barron It only took me 4-5 months to go from hating them to becoming completely obsessed. My advice to anyone who gets into them properly is to limit yourself when you listen to them because they are very easy to overlisten to.

I was introduced to grips through Guillotine and then tried listening to Exmilitary which I couldn't get into at first. I tried listening to it again some weeks later and again couldn't get through it. The third time I gave it a listen I fell in love with it, and it remains my favorite of their albums. It's like they had to rape my ears until I liked it.

Great guide as always! My favorite DG album has to be "The Money Store" to me it's one of the best workout record ever. If you have "Punk Weight" in your ear on full blast while in the midst of a run in the relentless mid summer heat will take you to a real primal place like no drug trip ever could.

I suggest you do a guide of all of Daniel Lopatin’s/ OPN’s discography in the future. I know the amount of works he has seems like it wouldn’t warrant a guide, but I think the breadth of style and experimentation he changes on each album is the largest I’ve seen of any artist.

My favorite 80s band - New Order - was also extremely mysterious. Albums usually had no pictures or names - text was sometimes in code if provided at all. They gave very few interviews. They also did whatever type of music they wanted - morphing from punk to goth in their first incarnation (Joy Division) and morphing from goth to independent rock to dance music as New Order. As an American fan, it was YEARS before I learned much of anything about them, and it was intoxicating to have ONLY the music to influence me. The internet destroys the mystery of rock music. As soon as you see your favorite musician chilling in a pair of shorts with their dog, it's over. Far too many people these days feel they have to like and respect an artist to like their work. That's a crummy way of coming at art. I'm not trying to be friends with them - I just want great music.

This is a very comprehensive introduction to Death Grips, good job on this one. Death Grips is easily the single most important act of the decade, everything they've done has pushed boundaries and changed the musical landscape, I feel like guides like these are very welcomed. Also imo because of how wild their discography is and how each album has something different to offer I feel like I can't choose a real favorite or a least favorite album which is why I disagree on both your choices, especially for Jenny Death which contains on of my favorites if not absolute favorite track that they've ever made. Overall, great video, I'll be sure to stick around your discord.

Dragons Thanos Dude, if you’re into those two artists, you’re in good company here. Oliver has got great taste in music. I highly recommend your exploring his past guides, essentials, “five albums to get you into”, and basically all his vids. I started following in late 2016, and seriously this dude had consistently put out nothing but brilliant content. Definitely my favorite music channel on KZbin, and I’ve been following Fantano since 2009.. This dude is legit, brother! ✌🏼

my most visited album is ex military but my favorite is still NOTM: the stripped back electronics and clarity of ride's vocals on NLDW explode into schizophrenic highs with the bjork sampling on NOTM. the venom of up my sleeves, the dizzying tempo changes on say hey kid, the strangeness of fuck me out etcetcetc. every track is just so fucking memorable.

I feel like one of the coolest things about death grips is the stuff they’ve made and will make are becoming the building blocks for the “future” of music, like our children will probably hear death grips and think it’s stale and too tame because it’ll just be so integrated with shit 10, 20 , 30 years down the line
