Since this question keeps coming up: No, I don't think the 3 and 15 have anything to do with episode numbers. Lynch and Frost wrote the third season as one continuous script, which would be cut into episodes later. At the start, they didn't even know how many episodes they would be able to get-Showtime originally was only going to make 9. I seriously doubt they even knew which episode numbers those events would end up as when shooting occurred, since they planned to cut the 18-hour movie (as they both considered it to be) into separate episodes in editorial (hence the convenience of having many musical performances at the Roadhouse, which could be used whenever needed as episode-enders), and I doubt Lynch would so cheeky as to have the Black Lodge measure time in our world in terms of episodes. Coop also regains his faculties in episode 16, not 15.

Maybe that is the sort of proof that Lynch is interfacing with some sort of revelation of the Mysteries and Twin Peaks is some sort of initiation in them

In "The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer" she specifically states that she's isolated all the goodness in her and hid it from BOB. That's the angel that escapes to the White Lodge at the end of "FWWM". The Fireman is named Lanternman and the woman who comes into his home when The Log Lady dies is named Margaret, she is his wife and they love each other very much. You can see a plight similar to theirs worked-out through the visit to Jack Rabbit's mansion in "INLAND EMPIRE", which also features Laura Dern seeing another version of herself.

+zerooskul The Fireman's name is never given, so I don't know where you are getting that. We also never see a woman enter the fireman's home when the Log Lady dies. The woman that is there in episode 8 is named Senorita Dido. I don't know what you are referring to.

In Room to Dream, it's mentioned that Catherine Coulson hid how sick she was from Lynch so he wouldn't have any reservations about using her in the show. She actually kept the original log with her in the intervening years, so it could be used if the show ever came back. I'm sure it was hard for her, but I can also understand that she wanted one last performance to her name, and the show is all the better for it.

It was my understanding that the pool is scorched engine oil; an opening to a gateway. And I believe the scene in FWWM is assumed to be above the convenient store, but it's the house at Dead Dog farms that Cooper purchases. Both have the formica table and when Cooper enters the house, he does sense, "There was a meeting here.", although in the natural world the current plot points to the meeting between Hank Jennings, Jean Renault, Ernie Niles and the Mountie. This is still great. Thirty years and I still have a ball descronstructing the lore. Great videos!

I think you definitely hit on something between 16:34 and 17:06, when you point out that, while the Black Lodge first appears in Cooper's dream and is interpreted by Cooper as "a collection of clues that will help him solve the Palmer murder case," nevertheless, "some of the components of the dream he took as being clues to the case... turned out to reflect the reality of the Black Lodge." This, in my view, is a really important part of _Twin Peaks._ The first time Cooper comes into contact with the Black Lodge is during a dream; Cooper believes that the environment in this dream consists of symbols and representations that can be decoded with reference to phenomena in the "real," waking world. In other words, Cooper initially assumes that the goings-on in the Black Lodge are essentially symbols, and that those symbols _stand for_ or represent certain _referents_ in the "real" world (that is, the world that Cooper lives in and experiences when he's awake, as opposed to the world that he enters into when he dreams). For example, Cooper believes that the dancing man in his dream is a _symbol,_ and that Leland Palmer's obsession with dancing is the _referent_ of this symbol; thus, or so at least Cooper believes, the _meaning_ of the dancing man is Leland Palmer's obsession with dancing. To take another example, in Cooper's dream, Laura Palmer tells Cooper that "Sometimes, [her] arms bend back." Again, Cooper interprets this as a _symbol,_ and eventually concludes that the _referent_ of this symbol is the fact that Laura Palmer's arms were bound behind her back shortly before her murder in the "real" world. In other words, Cooper seems to subscribe to a _referential theory of meaning:_ the meaning of a symbol is _the thing it refers to_ in the world (i.e. the meaning of a symbol is its _referent_ ). The climax of the second season occurs precisely when Cooper's referential conception of meaning is shattered. In short, Cooper's efforts to "decode" the representations in his dreams ultimately lead him _into_ the Black Lodge itself. And the Black Lodge, it turns out, isn't just a place that exists in a dream--it's a real place, in the real world, and the various phenomena therein are _real_ phenomena. That is to say, Cooper sought to unravel the world of symbols by searching for the ultimate _meanings_ of those symbols, but all he discovers at the end of his search is _more symbols._ Symbols and representations are not defined by their relationship to concrete things, but by their relationship to _other symbols and representations._ Indeed, reality is itself _just a collection of symbols and representations,_ whose ultimate meanings are eternally subject to interpretation and ambiguity. This is what Cooper finally comes to realise, all too late, when he first enters the Black Lodge, during that climatic scene in which Jimmy Scott performs _Sycamore Trees._ And this, I feel, is what Cooper is referring to at the end of season 3 when he says that "We live inside a dream." Seen in this way, _Twin Peaks_ is, partly, a kind of cinematic treatise on semiotics, epistemology, and even metaphysics. I could go on and on, about the dual nature of human beings, Monica Bellucci, and all that jazz. But this comment is already overly long, and I need to look for a job.

I've watched this video multiple times yet I find myself returning to it. There should be a term for KZbin explainer videos that are simply so well made that they're like favorite music tracks for people. like returning to the shaman or storyteller who gathers you around the fire again to tell you the same story you've heard but you still want to hear it. The closest word is something Tolkien wrote: sub-creation. In the telling, your videos grew and became works of art in themselves.

I'm having a nerdgasm. Seriously. Twin Peaks is, in many ways, what Star Wars is to other middle-aged fat guys who work in IT. I like Star Wars, don't get me wrong. I watch all the films, the KZbin critiques, and speculate as much as anyone on Disney's ongoing commoditization. But I have no desire to read the novels, collect all the toys, and argue over canon. Not like Peaks. Peaks is special. Not sure how you have the time and budget to do what you do, but I'm glad you're out there. Like Batman. Watching the skies for a signal. Hoping for something to do as the hours slip by. Cape rustling in the wind. Wondering how you're you're going to slip out of that form-fitting latex suit if the Taco Bell you had earlier wants to make a quick exit...

I ask only that anyone putting out a theory of what's going on indicate the scene or conversation or whatever that supports it. There's a lot of interpretations that just invent plot elements out of whole cloth and don't even try to anchor it to what we see (particularly all the ones who claim that certain episodes have to be watched side-by-side in sync, as if that's how directors work).

about Laura declining the invite from Bob to become a evil and cruel person ,this is a great metaphor to anylize the concept of moral, also i think is one of the things Lyinch care the most because Cooper say to agent Andy that he's a good and virtuos man and that's a very uncommon quality nowdays, turning back on the argue that human's nature is to overpower other creature ,even other human ,and fighting against our true nature is something extremely hard and it take a lot of willpower.

@cancerthecrab The fact that you think you're special or unique for liking David Lynch is absolutely comical. You're about as basic as they come. Piercings, bright makeup, dirty bongs, tapestry, David Lynch. It's almost as if someone wrote a "Not Like The Other Girls" character to be as stereotypical and trite as humanly possible. By the way, when you're posturing as if some sort of media is edifying only to the enlightened few who "truly understand it," you should try to display a level of reading comprehension greater than a 10 year old's. I never said I disliked all Lynch, I implied that the second half of S2 was rushed, underdeveloped, and childish. And that's BECAUSE IT WAS. Guess what, you utter clown, Lynch himself said that the second season of twin peaks "absolutely sucked." THOSE ARE HIS OWN WORDS. He didn't want the series to be that long, but he had contractual obligations, and spit out some half-baked garbage. Embarrassing, cretinous clown.

Great videos. Definitely the best on the series. I agree with many of your theories. I would say that the waiting room is not the black lodge as we see the Fireman at the end of season 2. It seems connected to both lodges as you said by intention. Earle/Bob use fear and pain to enter the black lodge and the reverse can be used to the white lodge. I also see the various portals operating similarly. This is how the entities from both lodges travel. Similar to how the Dutchman can appear at different locations. Certain portals lead to certain locations. The fireman captured the portal to Judy and changed it. The arm/Mike had their dispute with Bob over the corn that was canned. I took that to mean that some Black Lodge entites such as Mike and Ms Chalfont/Tremond have stopped feeding from the living either by choice or necessity and now rely on another source perhaps older hence it being canned for their sustainance. This is in contrast to the insatiable appetite of Bob who never has enough pain and sorrow. I also don't see either lodge as purely evil or good as we see denizens from both working together in some cases. I would say that they are out to create balance between light and dark and creatures like Judy throw that balance off which is why some work together. Anyhow great content!

These videos are great. I'm laid up with a foot injury, so I stretched out and watched all four today. Couple things about the White Lodge (and I think you're definitely correct, by the way). 1 - We know that the Giant created Laura, in some sense, from "Got a Light" 2 - This suggests to me that Laura carries some of the essence of the Giant 3 - Therefore, anywhere that Laura is, the Giant is too For that reason, I think that the Palmer house is a reflection in our world of the White Lodge, perhaps in the same way that the apartment above the service station is a reflection of the Black Lodge. And finally, when the Giant says "It is in our house now" at the very beginning of The Return, that would seem to indicate that the Lodge entities and/or Judy are in the Palmer house, and therefore, within the White Lodge, which would seem to me to be the great crisis that Coop and Briggs are working to counteract. This may not be the place for this, but I'm not a Reddit guy, and this seemed as good a place as any to let this out of my head. Looking forward to the next one!

Video's are good. But Twin peaks never was a massive succes. Not to mention Fire walk with me was Giant ( pun lol) flop . So its unlikely that millions will be interested in it

Not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere, but the socket numbers also correspond with the episode numbers. In episode 3, Coop switches places with Dougie after coming through the socket. In episode 15, he sticks a fork in a socket, setting up the return of Original Coop.

Yes, it's been mentioned multiple times. However, Lynch and Frost wrote one long script and didn't even know how many episodes Showtime was going to give them, so I doubt seriously if they had any clue which episodes would contain those events when it was written.
@RogueBoyScout

@@Corn_Pone_Flicksum, considering that David Lynch just notoriously films ad hoc regardless of script, I'm gonna say that of course they "knew" how many episodes they had by the time of production, because you know, Showtime have other productions, and they don't just say "yeah, everyone, take all the time you want. Don't worry about a filming schedule, we'll just get everyone to work to your schedule Mr. Lynch." and lynch made the appropriate changes being the good transcendental boy scout he is. As for mark frost, it's well known that Lynch doesn't even really consider half his contribution as part of his "canon" for lack of a better term. People need to actually see Lunch at work. Yea he is an artist. He is also a producer however IYK... YK .

The first time we see the inside of the White Lodge, with the Fireman walking in it, we see tons of those generator things. “Fire” being a sort of electricity, like Hawk said means that the White Lodge is a place of immense energy and thus the place Mr C can use to locate and get to Judy first.

Cool! There's a place called The Bookhouse here where I live, which has some Peaks-themed menus and the like, though from what I've seen in pictures, there's not much in the way of Twin Peaks decor (i'm not much of a drinker, so I've never actually been to it or any other bar).

Couple things I'd like to bring up. *Do the wall sockets 3 and 15 have anything to do with the Keychain Room 315 for the Great Northern? The sound that emanates in the Great Northern and the Boiler Room and before Cooper goes back into himself when he wakes up from his Coma. Like he was stuck in limbo before coming back in ep16 * I believe "the type of fire" could resemble Electricity which Judy seems to thrive on. * Bob wants the Fire. Meaning it could be the Fireman's fire or Judy's Fire perhaps??? Where do you live Corn Pone? I could talk endlessly about these subjects
