I think the simplest answer is that Gordon is referring to the Jefferies incident(s) from the past. In Fire Walk With Me, the incident in the hallway ends up affecting all 3 directly, and even though we don't see her, Coop calls out for Diane while moving back and forth between the camera room and the camera itself. She was clearly close by and like all of her knowledge we cannot begin to guess its scope or limits. It's also backed up by the fact that Gordon explaining who Jefferies was 3 episodes back was met with a similar choice to be coy about who he was. Even in that original FWWM scene, it implied a greater mystery in the show universe that those characters were and still are more familiar with than we are. Coop's back and forth with the camera did not seem spontaneous at all, but rather like something he was prepared for. Just a related tidbit, the "chrome reflects our image line" I believe is tied to Cooper watching the camera. He seems to understand a full year before the death of Laura Palmer that something supernatural is going on and to a degree, how it works. If he had dealt with Jefferies stuff like that tying in with Teresa Banks, it makes his character a whole lot less naive with how willfully he accept the supernatural explanations when he gets to Twin Peaks. In his mind he already knows there is crazy shit happening and it rubbed right against the beginning of his involvement with Bob's murders.
Something about the tone of the FBI scenes, the stuff about "blue rose" etc... I dont think we are meant to identify to the FBI as being in the same "knowledge" position as us, and that they dont just know "less" than we do, either. I think Gordon's statement about how it involves "something you know about, and that's enough about that" is not meant to be an allusion to something we recognize, but to prod us into being curious about what THEY know that we dont. A hint that they hold some puzzle pieces we are not privvy to, that they are not merely trying to "catch up" to our own knowledge about the lodges and the two Coopers etc. I imagine their scenes might have been a bit more frustrating if it felt like all they were working towards is merely catching up to the viewer, there is something subtly encouraging in knowing that they've been doing some work on their end too, and that we also have something to learn from them.

The actor who played the soot covered man stated in an interview that having his name in the credits would "give it away". Take that as you will, I guess it might be Meriweather Lewis of Lewis and Clark.

I have heard people say Merriwether Lewis because of the Secret History which I guess it could be. I read the article you're talking about, but it's a pretty wide open statement.

The only detail he gives away in the interview is that he applied for a position for which were required long hair and beard. Make what you like out of that, the only thing is he definitely has to be someone who's going to play an important role and note some irrelevant character or some random Lynchian weirdness

RE: Coop's fingerprints, it's interesting to note that in the bottom prints (where he places all his fingers at once down) the "spiritual mound' finger is also reversed there, so the so-called 'cro-magnum' was at least somewhat diligent in his subterfuge. Really the whole thing just seems to be more a message to Cole/Albert/Tammy that this Coop isn't the real Coop, which if you think about it from their perspective, is just utterly mind blowing. We're used to it because of our vantage point. These FBI dudes are used to dealing with some weird shit, but how much do they really know about the Lodges and just exactly how supernaturally wild the whole thing is? Did Briggs brief them on it, and in his dealings with Blue Rose come across the intersection naturally? We know he was abducted at least once. I'm guessing the call that the military guy is making will be to Cole, and this will lead the FBI further toward the truth that was Cooper and Briggs' reality.
@jimneegs38877 жыл бұрын
Also, when Gordon is counting her fingers saying "it's very very good to see you again old friend" The spiritual mound finger, is where he says "very". When Gordon and gang went to visit bad coop in prison, the first thing that he said was "It's yrev very good to see you again old friend." Sorry if this is obvious, but I haven't seen it mentioned yet.

I have a question. Andy agrees to meet up with the owner of the truck at Sparkwood and 21 at 4:30 (i quickly related it with the premiere’s “Remember... 430... Richard & Linda...” etc. However, when Andy checks his watch, it’s only 4:05 and he walks up to his patrol car as if to leave. Why? Another thing. When Hawk and Frank are talking about Laura’s pages, they comment on how Doc Hayward and Harry were with “Cooper” after he left the black lodge. Frank proceeds to ask Hawk if anyone else saw “Cooper” that day and Hawk replies that he doesn’t know. However, we know that precisely in that room, Bobby revealed to both of them that “Cooper” spoke with Major Briggs, so why wouldn’t either of them remember and especially why didn’t Hawk bring it up?

Kid, don't over think Lynch. It takes away from the immersion that is so important to subconscious messages he has imbed into the visual mindscape. I am pleased by how it unfolded when I didn't engage in all this "intellectual" masturbatory exercise young folks love to engage in on videos. I hated when they did this crap in film school, now I find it mildly amusing when every day folks try to be more sophisticated than the artist.
