Glad I'm not the only one that enjoyed the sweeping scene. It looks like he's doing it to the beat of the music, almost like a dance. Made me think of Audrey's dance in the diner, and MFAP's dance in the Black Lodge. My theory is that it symbolizes us, as the collective audience, gathering the pieces together, finally seeing the story emerging as a whole. Or maybe it's just Lynch being Lynch.

Lynch being Gary Coleman would be pure Lynch.

Lynch was yrev very not Lynch in the Straight Story. It is possible for an artist to go outside and beyond what they are best-known for. It is narrow-minded to think that Lynch can only be Lynch. Yes, he does "that thing he does" better than anybody else, but that does not limit or define his artistry.
@AdamFunnell7 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing. The many, disparate story-lines are finally converging into one coherent narrative, and the sweeping is a metaphor for this.

After watching this episode I think this whole film/series 3 is about transcendental meditation. Cooper' mind and body is lost in sin, or literally sin city. (Another reference to this is the Horne brother lost in the woods... (he seemed out of it earlier in the series too, much more than his brother)). So we get to watch Cooper dig through these layers in series 3 and eventually "wake up!" to a higher understanding by the finale. Seems to be Lynch's M.O. nowadays. Just my opinion. Plus the stairs and ladder drawings on the real estate documents? Transcending!!!!

I think Diane was once alot like Cooper. Professional, on the ball, everything by the book. but the events of the night they last saw each other traumatized her. I think thats where they are going with that. I don't think I expected a female Cooper, Im liking all the Diane stuff so far.

Dianne is NOTHING like I had envisioned her after all of these years, but I really like that a lot. It just shows how unpredictable and fresh Lynch and Frost can be about things we take for granted as knowing. Laura Dern is awesome in the role!

I find it really interesting what you said about Jerry being like Dougie Coop in that scene in the woods, because I also noticed it - and he also says his car is stolen, just like Dougie-Cooper to the detectives at his workplace.

I've heard that the actor that plays Jean-Michel Renault has had some serious health/financial difficulties in recent years, I feel like Lynch brought him back partly to help him out. I wonder if the extended sweeping scene had something to do with increasing his screen time and thus his pay for the episode. I may be completely off, but I feel like Lynch is a compassionate person and fiercely loyal to actors and crew that he likes, it wouldn't surprise me if Lynch was just doing him a solid...
@ChangShen7 жыл бұрын
78deathface I like that theory.

78deathface I remember a jaded non-fan once deriding Lynch because his friends in Hollywood were mostly "losers" and not industry players. In other words, not all of his friendships are based on his own gain. It's pretty clear in his movies from the 90s onward that he understands what life in LA is like for ordinary people struggling to get by. A side of the city that gets amazingly scant treatment from most big directors.

Does everyone remember that Cooper was wearing a silver pin on his suit in the waiting room (the first few hours). He wasn't wearing it when he got there, 25 years ago, and it isn't on him when he takes Dougie's place. But Gordon and Albert both wear similar looking pins. Also, it's probably nothing, but when evil Coop is speaking to the warden, he first says, "Gill McClusky." But a few minutes later, he refers to him as "Joel McClusky." Any thoughts on this descrepency? Also, for everyone missing the real Coop, in one of the teasers realeased prior to the show, there's about a 2 second clip of agent Cooper fully snapped out of Duggie mode driving a car. He's in his suit and everything. Hopefully we see that develop soon!

I agree about Diane, I expected her to be almost a "spectacled librarian geek"! I can totally agree as well that I think the drinking and "attitude" she has is as a result either of the last meeting with Coop (evil or good) or possibly it's the fact that Coop (to her mind) has disappeared and not been in touch. The fact she is so retro is a surprise but when you see how much Coop loved the town of Twin Peaks and it's retro vibe it kind of does make sense.

Jerry was lighting a joint in episode 5 while he was in the woods watching Dr Amp's broadcast.

Pete - Jerry Horne is quite frequently in the woods outside of Twin Peaks (or maybe even living there): We see him watch Dr. Jacoby's vlog on his iPad out in the woods (Episode 5, 42m40s) which suggests (at least to me) that he's living somewhere out there.

Pete - regarding people's vision of Diane: in the Agent Cooper Bio I believe he describes her as "a cross between a saint and a cabaret singer." I think that description works here. Her anger seems to be as a result of whatever happened between her and Evil Coop, so I'm guessing Good Coop didn't see that in her way back in the day. I enjoyed the meta mirroring of the "where's Bill/thing?" diner scene. After some spectacle (like practically this whole episode) people in the diner/viewer consumers just go back to consuming: "Well that just happened" resume quotidian existence. I think it may be significant that another instrumental plays in the sweeping scene, both scenes are deceptively/conspicuously anticlimatic. I think that Lynch is perhaps commenting on viewer passivity/complacency and expectations. Just an observation.

@patrickcoulombe53177 жыл бұрын
Said this after top moments. Didn't know if you saw it Pete. The sound in the office with Beverly is reminiscent of the sound that is in the lodge when MFAP rubs his hands together, either in FWWM or season 2 finale. I may check later myself to verify. When he's rubbing them together, a shadow passes through the curtain. I also agree with LT. KNOX not seeing the ash figure. I don't think she would've scurried off so quickly. You don't become a lieutenant by running from danger, and the figure CLEARLY was out of place. She felt something, sensed it, much like Briggs 'hardware'. I think she is involved in BlueBook, or something similar, from an investigative standpoint, much like Briggs was.

Evil Cooper is after the dark black figure that was most recently seen in the hallway. When the figure first appears it's blurry & the head looks exactly like the image on the card that evil Cooper has , even down to the horns. It becomes less so as it walks toward the woman on the phone. Didn't Cooper buy a house or look at a house named "Dead Dog" or something like that ? Even had some mystical story about dead dogs and good & evil people.

Great video Pete! Two things I would like to point out that I didn't see mentioned: 1. When Dougie squeezes Ike's hand off the gun, the camera shows (for a short moment) the grip of the gun is clean and without that fleshy bit you see after. Maybe it's a production error, maybe not. 2. During the night shot over the woods, right before the end scene in the diner, you can hear the scratching sounds that the giant told Cooper to listen to in the beginning of episode 1. Any thoughts are sure to be just speculation, but that's why I'm here. What do you think about these things?

Hey Pete, I don't quite get the fingerprints stuff. Now, they took prints of the fingers of evil Coop when he's gotten in to the Slammer, right, but what exactly is vice versa hire.
@PetePeppers17 жыл бұрын
Still trying to figure it out myself. The one is reversed, as Albert said by some cro-magnon at the prison. Gordon shows Tammy that the spiritual finger is the one that Albert is talking about. So the implication could be that it is a reversed print on Evil Coop that had to be switched to make it match. Or the whole thing is faked for that finger, or something like that. Either way it goes along with him saying yrev very which was the initial clue that gave him away to Albert and Gordon.

Here you are strongly suggesting that it was EvilCoop with whom Diane met before. Although there is a big chance that it is true, saying "there is a definite implication that something happened btw her and EvilCoop" is misleading. In fact, my impression is that this was the first time that Diane saw EvilCoop. If she was capable of recognizing Cooper, why didn't she recognize him that night? There might be explanations for this question but it is still open anyway.

Jerry scene theory: Jerry's "you say the same thing" when Ben repeats "someone stole your car?" is/could be a reference to Dougie way of talk. He might be looking for the Black Lodge, would ve a reference to the log lady saying "something is missing" to Hawk, the lodge, say Hawk in season 2, has something to do whit his heritage. Notice that Jerry and log lady listen the radio show of Dr. Jacoby, who lives in the woods, very/irev similar to the trees were Jerry is looking for something. About Ben Horne and Beverly in the hotel office, could be that they where looking for something "missing", the totem or whatever it is looks like something to do with Hawk's Indian? heritage, I think

Do the other cops have computers on their desks? Maybe Sheriff is hiding computer from Lucy seeing how she reacts on cell phones. But I do remember a huge command center at the dispatch so I could be mistaken. What was the deal with the fingers that Gordon says? Is it some kind of common knowledge thing or was it invented for the scene? Thing about Diane that seems off for me - she saw Cooper after he became EvilCoop. Did she see him before the fact? If she didn't then how can she know something is missing? Or is actually EvilCoop has something missing? Yes Cooper sent her all the tapes he recorded (or did he?). But when I was watching first 2 seasons I had an impression that they might have never met at all. Was that the EvilArm or the real Arm? Ike the Spike being a dwarf could also be a creation of EvilArm. Also the location of the flesh on the gun is wrong - the most part of Ike's hand was on the other side of the gun, so what did he squeezes off exactly? His thumb into a pulp? I thought it was garmonbozia on the gun first.

I was getting frustrated at how slow the Dougie story was going, but I realized it's necessary for the other stories to work. If Coop suddenly woke up and was back to himself, that would bring the Evil Coop storyline with Diane and the FBI to an immediate end. Coop needs to be out of the picture while that stuff is going on and this is how they're handling it. It's either this or have the two Coops standing next to each other saying "I'm the real Cooper! He already had one with the would-be assassin.

I think Andy letting that guy off was to show Andy's policemanship hasn't necessarily improved very much over the years. I laugh out loud every time.

Does anyone else thinks that "Colonel Davis" is an homage to Don S. Davis? :)

Shelly seemed to noticed the difference in the scene. I can't be the only one who caught that...

Hi, Pete. I love your videos. One thing I found strange was when EvilCooper was being let out of prison, there was a whole lot of weird green light showing in the jail cell. Didn't know if you caught that too, or if you had any thoughts about it.

Didn't notice it so I will have to go back and look

I took it that Diane hasn't seen Cooper since ~1990, or before the original run takes place and they were in some sort of close relationship (romantic or not) that she could never see him like this.
@ozricman5007 жыл бұрын
In S01-02, Coop made several references to his relationship with, and fondness for Caroline (Windom Earl'e wife?), a woman he was was assigned to protect, prior to his arrival in TP. I was never under any impression that Coop and Diane had nothing but a mutual, respectful working relationship.

"Mr. Strawberry" was the dog. It's implied it was the warden's dog, who had probably gone missing (don't recall if the warden ever mentioned something about a missing dog earlier or not). There's another name he mentions that I don't recall now (Ken Murkowski? or something like that.) What I took from it was that the warden had Ken killed or was responsible for his death, and EvilCoop has some evidence to this effect which he sent out with the dog legs as messages to other people. However, I only watched the scene once so maybe I misunderstood it too. I'm also going to make a bet that the next 5 hours will each end at the Double R Diner. And then for hours 13-18 we'll have some other location.

I think it was Joe or Joel McClusky. I thought the dog's name might have been Strawberry but it is all somewhat confusing.
@ashfordwyrd74587 жыл бұрын
I don't think Mr Strawberry is the dog. I think that's a code name for someone who was either a witness or accomplice in a crime committed by the warden. The dog was only being used as a prop to get the information from place to place.

OMG does no one remember that the final missing diary page was the one in the train the night of Laura's murder?

I'm pretty sure Mr. Strawberry was the warden's dog.

I really like your program, great job! Hoping to hear from you soon with the 10 things you might have missed, I usually miss all of them :D I wanted to add a few thoughts on the Bad Coop/Diane encounter. The way she says "Look at me" for me it is like she is trying to wake the old Coop back, make him realize how she is changed (I guess she is not proud of herself), which would mean that she was hoping to see old Coop... so I think when they meet last time it was the Good Coop that was at her apartment. Maybe she needed help, but good Coop vanished and could not help her anymore. She also says "Fuck you FBI" a lot so I guess that FBI did not help neither when the good Coop failed her. Hope this make some sense! Also, wouldn't Bad Coop go to the intensive care to get the green ring from Annie (or the nurse that had stolen it)? Maybe he needed it to manufacture Dougie? I feel that Bad Coop somehow tamed BOB appetites, he is not dancing nor is he merry like Leland? I don't think we see him attack women a lot..?

I wonder the significance of the monster in the glass box that killed those two people in the first episode? What the hell does that have to do with anything? I have a feeling that Jerry in the woods might be it's next victim. I suspect Jerry is by the entrance to the Black Lodge.

I was just thinking - if Leland wanted to ditch the diary pages because he though the police would find them on his person during his interrogation, why not just flush them down the toilet? Why put them in the stall door? Just a thought...

He may not have been able to bring himself to destroy them. Of course I don't really know, but would have kinda killed this whole reveal if he flushed them 😁

1. Why do you always say Janey-E-E? It seems like there should only be one E based on the credits and the ring. 2. Why is she stressed about the money? Dougie-Coop came home with $425,000, did she need to pay other debts? She mutters to Dougie about how they could have bought a new car if he didn't have to pay $25k but isn't there plenty money leftover? And why not pay the full $50k to the gangsters to ensure Dougie's safety?
@cherryblossom921917 жыл бұрын
BobbySoFamous she says that the rest of the money is for their future. She probably wants to pay off their mortgage, put funds towards their son's education and keep some aside for retirement. $420,000 sounds a lot but it's easily spent.
