I agree with another commenter who wrote that Phillip Gerard signaled to Dougie to come to the coffee shop to get the cherry pie that would save his life. The one-armed man is the real Cooper's protector. Also, I've noticed how important children are in this new season of Twin Peaks: the hit-and-run-boy, Sonny Jim, the boy whose mother is the drug addict, the boys who find Miriam, the boy who shot the gun, the sick girl in the car. If I"m remembering correctly, children were almost invisible in the original series.
@1whyvonne7 жыл бұрын
Lynch and Frost have kids (or more kids, in Lynch's case) now.
@moneteee7 жыл бұрын
I'm fairly sure at least Lynch had children already when the original show aired, they're all adults now. One of them was already a grown woman back in the days and she wrote the Secret Diary of Laura Palmer in the break between season 1 & 2. Another one played Pierre Tremond in the show.

Yes on the importance of children! I'm surprised I haven't seen that discussed much, as it has impressed me every episode. That boy in the van with the gun was scarier to me than the exorcist girl in the car. That dude exuded evil! Definitely not what he seems!

Things: 1.) Gersten Hayward in the stairwell w/ Steven. Of all the crazy ways to bring back a random character we haven't seen since early in Season 2...something tells me there's going to be more with her in the last few episodes. 2.) Everything about the sequence after the shots were fired was bizarre. The kid who shot the gun, his dad, the honking woman, the zombie girl in the front seat. There damn well better be a resolution/follow-up, otherwise that scene will probably go down as the biggest WTF moment in Twin Peaks history. For me at least. 3.) Dana Ashbrook has been the breakout star of The Return. We all kinda knew Kyle McLachlan was a great, versatile actor, so seeing his EvilCoop/Dougie stuff has been mind-blowing, but in a way that we might've expected...but seeing Bobby have an arc w/ this much range is pretty incredible, and one I never saw coming (not that he wasn't good in the original series, but this time around he's WAY better than "good"...he's downright great). 4.) Albert smudged the last 4 numbers purposely, and showed the coordinates to Gordon to test Diane, right? That's what it seemed like to me at least. 5.) Candie seems "manufactured". 6.) The final song that grabbed DougieCoop's attention in the restaurant was another Angelo Badalamenti composition called, "Heartbreaking". Considering he writes his songs for TP based on moods that David Lynch describes to him, I wonder what specifically is causing DougieCoop's heart to be breaking?? My best guess is it's more of Coop coming through, waking up, and feeling the heartbreak because, A.) he's realizing how much of his life he's missed out on, B.) he's realizing that Dougie's life isn't his own, & he's got feelings for Janey-E & Sonny Jim, C.) he's in tune w/ his enhanced sensory perception, acquired from spending 25 years in the lodge, & he knows something very bad is about to happen, or, D.) the WHOLE experience of Vegas/Dougie/Janey/Sonny Jim/Jade/Rancho Rosa/Silver Mustang/Mitchum Bros./etc. is all a dream/vision, and he's about to wake up from that, only to realize he's still in the Lodge. I have no idea what to think/anticipate/believe about the Dougie story at this point. But I've gone from having very lukewarm feelings about it (early on) to TOTALLY, thoroughly enjoying it more recently. 7.) Sorry that was so long, I was just rambling.

re: 4) It also seemed to me that Albert telling Gordon he should have milk instead of coffee could be some of their coded words.
@78deathface7 жыл бұрын
Mike Zazworsky I agree that Agent Cooper never left the lodge. There have been so many clues that support this going all the way back to parts 2 and 3, as Gordon says "the policeman's dream"... The "sick girl" is seriously one of the creepiest things I've ever seen on TV, it really stuck with me. Did you notice how Red just showed up out of nowhere from in the middle of the street, chaos immediately ensued (including the scary-ass zombie girl) and Shelley almost seemed under his spell... he has that otherworldly evil vibe. I'm not sure what's going on with Diane, but it seems like it's nothing good. Who knows? Things are rarely how the seem in this show. Albert could be corrupt for all we know...
@78deathface7 жыл бұрын
moneteee so much of what Albert and Gordon say seems like coded language, also a lot of Gordon's gestures could be code like with Lil (the dancing girl from FWWM).

I didn't realize Donna's sister was in the stairwell.... I thought the music Dougie was mesmerized by was he & Annie's song by Angelo, but not sure. That would have made him sad if he hasn't seen her for 25 years... They don't have many episodes to fit all the puzzle pieces together! Also why can some people see the "Woodsmen", & some not? I can't wait to see what's up with Diane. Also Major Briggs said he saw Bobby happy & fulfilled... Which he isn't now.

You didn't forget anything, unfortunately there was no explanation for that, it happened in the last (maybe last 2) episode(s), it was probably one of the thing that they should have explained in the third season that never happened (at least back then).
@clementeen7 жыл бұрын
moneteee I think someone on youtube explained it but i can't remember the link/couldn't find it again. It had something to do with Bob's right arm coming into view in the woods, there was a spotlight on it if you can remember the episode in season 2. but this could perhaps mean that Bob is near, after all we did see the woodsmen take him from Mr.C's body
@moneteee7 жыл бұрын
Yeah there have been quite a few vague explanations, but those are only speculations, they didn't give us enough evidence to come out with an educated guess. It's obviously something related to the Lodge opening, but that's all we can say for sure (at least for the original show).

When I saw the cherry pie I thought "please tell me that's how Dougie wakes up" and when that beautiful piano song started I almost believed it! What I realised afterwards is that the major clue about Dougie waking up as Dale Cooper is in the title: Twin peaks, "The Return". At first you think the return refers to the return of the show after 25 years, but what it actually means is that the whole season is about the Return of Special Agent Dale Cooper from the Black Lodge. So Dougie will only snap out of this sleepwalking state in the very last episode.

There were so many weird moments in that shooting scene - but for me it was that bit when Bobby looks from the kid to the Father, which is slowed down, and goes into a brief trance, before snapping out of it. Something to do with his own relationship with his Father, or perhaps to the time when he murdered the cop in FWMM? Either way, a great scene in a great episode. I can't see anything topping episode 9, but episode 11 is surely going to fight hard to hold the second place spot.

There was definitely something else going on there when Bobby goes into the trance, it's before he looks to the Father. There's a theory that the Candie character is the voice or POV of the audience. As an example, nearly every scene in this episode either features cars, or refers to cars. Shelly clinging to the hood of her car. Hastings is killed in a car. The gunshot originating in a car. The obnoxious lady in the car. The 2 cars in the desert scene. Even in a scene with no car, with Frank and Hawk looking at the map, deputy Jesse interrupts with news of his new car. To sum it up at the end, Candie says "there were cars everywhere."

Okay, fun episode! I watched the last few episodes again and thought of two things: 1) When Tammy is heading toward Cole's room with the photo of Doppleganger, the first time I watched it I thought I had lag. When I watched it again it seems there is a purposeful sound when Tammy turns the corner and she is walking in slo-mo. She may have been traveling between dimensions? 2) It'd be funny to find out Candy is some sort of secret agent. I dunno, just to add to how intriguing and funny her character is. One scene in particular from episode 10 struck me, when she had her back to everyone in the kitchen. Maybe she was calling someone!? Haha!

joethetimelord hey now! The show might be a bit of a mess but it is still good story telling! But to compare it to Lynch is a bit much. Both shows have amazing cinematography but Twin Peaks has the upper hand at story telling..

no need to state the obvious. Twin Peaks is superior because it comes from a master director such as David Lynch, one of the last living legends of cinema. Game of Thrones, on the other hand, is a fairly good show adapted from great books by decent young writers who benefits from great, great production values. it's like comparing a teacher with a student.

Tammy and Macklin did not appear to be able to see the woodsman. The others must have been touched with the sight somehow.

My strongest impression from the episode is that Becky Briggs is a psychopath and every bit as dangerous as Richard Horne, maybe moreso, because everyone in Twin Peaks knows Richard is a crime spree waiting to happen, Becky goes from 0-100 in a heartbeat, she could have killed whoever was on the other side of that room. The second strongest impression was how heartbreaking it was to suddenly realize that a) Shelly and Bobby were married and had Becky, B) Shelly was no longer married to Bobby C) Shelley was in love with a really dirty dangerous scumbag. D) Bobby had a failed marriage and a daughter who's in real trouble. It seems as though his rise to goodness came with a heavy price, and now he's watching Shelly be madly in love with a man Bobby probably knows is dirty, and crazy

It's sad that she's effectively gone back to a Leo character. As though Shelly's just always been that kind of girl..drawn to dangerous men.

That's a good point. He also seems to have a weird, hypnotic power.

The scene where Becky throws Shelly off the bonnet of the car and drives off, the camera pans up slightly to show a power pole and a transformer that is a common theme throughout whenever their is evil nearby.

I believe the reason he got the cherry pie was the one armed man helping him out , if you notice he waves double off the track right to the bakery and then the boxer boss gets dougie back in sync with the limo/deal , I didn't get it at first but just connected it, that scene when The Mitchum brothers laugh in the desert is one of the greatest things ever , and the woodsmen are finally starting to show up! So glad Gordon has his third eye stuff going on and he's in tune ( in my opinion there would be no X-Files or anything she'll like that without this show)

So is Gordon Cole now one of the gifted and the damned? That was a super close call he had with the Woodsmen almost getting sucked into their realm. I hope he's not the latest in a long line of FBI men to dissappear into the lodge.

What crossed my mind when I saw the symbol that Hawk said Frank never wanted to know about was that it looked like the wood tick that was killed when Dale got shot in Season 2

Another thing I've noticed - everyone who is dying supernaturally after an encounter with the dark forces (Sam, Tracey, the secretary, the radio DJ, and now Hastings) is suffering severe head trauma, to the point that they look almost hollowed out. I noticed it immediately in Sam and Tracey's posthumous photo, that they were obliterated but almost cleanly. I also noticed that Albert definitely takes notice of Diane memorizing the numbers, and he seems skeptical or concerned. He narrows his eyes at her as if to let her know he caught it. She immediately begins acting cagey right after, asking for the cigarette and telling the disjointed account of seeing the homeless man, who she said she saw leaving but we clearly see that she sees him approaching, twice. I also noticed that when Dougie digs into the pie, he repeats Rodney by saying, "Damn good," but to my ear it's the first time he's actually sounded like old Coop. Everything else he says is pretty stilted and parroted, but this almost sounded like an autonomous response. You can even catch him take notice of it himself, he stops his chewing and seems to focus on what he just said. I mentioned in another comment that Candie is the only one of the showgirls who has a physical difference in her appearance, in that her feather hairclip is on the right side of her hair. The girl Stephen is with is Donna's little sister Gersten, with Alicia Witt reprising the role. I think Shelly and Bobby are meant to be separated. It didn't occur to her to call Bobby when Becky was in trouble, and she's pretty open about her affection for Red so I would assume these two split a long time ago and just never got a divorce. My question about Diane's alliance really makes me wonder how far back her double crossing goes. Is this a new development, as some sort of revenge against Coop and the FBI? Or was the Diane we know from tapes from the original run an agent of the Black Lodge all along? Shelly looked like Dorothy from Wizard of Oz in this episode and given Lynch's interest in Oz, I'm sure it wasn't an accident.

This was by far my favourite episode so far! As soon as i finished it i rewatched it haha. This is probably an extremely unpopular opinion but I think I might like this season more than the original seasons. The way all these clues are given to us and we have to decipher them and how the show is shot and edited is amazing. I look forward to this more than game of thrones right now which blows me away.

I don't know that it would be an unpopular opinion. It's a bit like apples and oranges, but the Return has been one of the most enthralling TV experiences of all time. I love the original seasons, and love it all honestly, but I am loving this more right now.

Maybe the best episode of all 3 seasons. Belushi's faces at the pie table were amazing. Love Bobby as a central figure in the story. Love the living map. Love Redd's multi level destructive effect. Felt like Mom & Dad might be doing a bit of sparkle and it led to a gun in their child's hands. Pretty sure the kid was aiming at Bobby but missed by a mile. Sick kid in the car likely another Sparkle OD. Beginning to wonder if Red is using Sparkle to pull a Needful Things all over Twin Peaks.

in my opinion Twin Peaks as a town changes during days that portal opens. Did you notice how many calls were made to sheriff office (like town started to go mad). so there was many scenes that were kinda scary - shellys daughter, dakota events, vomiting kid, shoots on streets, people going crazy, log lady call, black fire and symbol that hawk doesnt want to talk about etc etc...
@averyfaeth80147 жыл бұрын
FUGLY UCKER I think all the calls in a row were all about Becky's shooting at the apartment. She stopped repeating the address and I assumed it was because she was recognizing it was all the same incident, and just assured them it was already being addressed.

I was so sure we were going to lose Gordon- obviously we knew someone was going down. My next thought was the Detective- and Hastings would catch the blame, but nope... Hastings is done! My question: if Hastings hadn't gone down, having seen the vortex and everything, would they have set Hastings free?

I'm having some thoughts about dougie's reaction to the music : He starts to notice it - and seems to understand it- when its slower. Knowing how the show is playing with time, ( and reading about this particular topic on reddit) I feel like Cooper is just really not perceiving time the same way as "we" are. Its pretty vague but maybe it will have something to do with the papers Major Briggs left to the police ? and as some suspect , cooper needed a certain event to happen to be able to go back to the real world and he came back too early ?
@PetePeppers17 жыл бұрын
I don't know if that theory is right, but I am a fan of it since it's pretty well thought out.

Pete I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this, but have you noticed that in the very beginning of every episode, there's the Rancho Rosa (Lynch/Frost production company) symbol that comes on. The color of that image changes every week, depending on the theme of that week. This week it was blue (Blue Rose). Other times it's been red, or yellow, or even black & white (Part 8). Just a curious Easter eggy touch, that I don't think anyone has ever pointed out, as far as I know.

Almost immediately after the shooting at the diner, a deputy from the Twin Peaks sheriff's office pulls up to assists Bobby - he goes into detail about how he got there so quickly, which seems a little suspicious. If I'm not mistaken, I think he's also the same deputy who barges in on the meeting with Sheriff Truman and Hawk and asks if Truman wants to see his new car, which was also strange. I wonder if this deputy might be involved in doing something evil along with the Twin Peaks bad cop who intercepted Miriam's letter ...

This series is a reflection of modern life and this episode in particular about American gun culture, with the scene of the little boy firing the gun and then both him and the father just standing there nonplussed while the mother is in hysterics. Becky using a gun as a solution to her ordeal is another nod toward this culture. Going way back early on in the series and throughout there has been some sort of commentary with regards to modern life in each episode. The use of drugs by the young mother while her son wandered around, the houses in the new estate all seemingly up for sale due to bank foreclosure, the corruption in the insurance industry, the "99 percenters" that Janey E refers to being screwed over, along with Dr Jacoby's webcast rant plus many other problems with gambling, drug trafficking, child exploitation, domestic violence, elder abuse, extortion and sex. Lynch and Frost are holding up a mirror to our society, but is anyone looking?

Ok, so, We've all decided that this is taking place in 2015, right? Hasting's last post on the Search For The Zone blog was November 2015, and this all is taking place in the last days of September coming in to October. Did anyone catch that? Do you think hes actually gone?
@moneteee7 жыл бұрын
Remember that there was another contributor to his blog Heinrich Viegel. He could be the one that edited the blog. Or someone also might have stole his credential. Also they've deleted the (fictitious) guestbook entries, but if you put thesearchforthezone in the internet wayback machine you can see that there was a message dated 20 november 2015 in which a guy asked something like "where have you all gone?", which a) suggests that at that day the blog hadn't been updated for a while b) might foreshadow something that will happen in the next few episodes (a lot of people - Hawk, Truman, Bobby, Gordon and his crew, DoppelCooper and his foes, etc - visiting other dimensions/places not in our reality and thus disappearing for a while)
@justwondersometimes24827 жыл бұрын
Yes its confusing, i kept thinking that Hastings was taken to the site the same day he was interviewed by Tammy which was sept 30 i believe. Then when Hawk was showing Truman the living map he was pointing to the mountain saying that is where the coordinates lead and where they would be going the day after tomorrow making it sept 29 when the two are having the conversation. So it seems like hawk and truman had the coordinates before Cole and Albert. And evil coop hasnt gotten them yet... And how is Dougie going to find his way there?
@justwondersometimes24827 жыл бұрын
Also, truman bobby and hawk have that extra bit of info about putting a handful of dirt in their pockets. Could it be to ground them. If the black hole theory is correct maybe those three wont get sucked up into it ....wild guess.
@toddprit7 жыл бұрын
No it's taking place in 2014. Twin Peaks took place over about a month in 1989, Coop gets stuck and leaves in 2014, 25 years later. Clearly something fishy is going on with the zone site, maybe someone else like Viegel edited the blog to make is seem like Hastings is still alive, maybe it's a continuity error, but Lynch doesn't make continuity errors. Could be a continuity error because maybe Lynch farmed out the zone site stuff to an underling who screwed up, but I doubt it. It's definitely a mystery. We also know that Tammy is suppose to be working on the info in the history of Twin Peaks dossier which is suppose to be in 2016, so we have two different sources that are suppose to be from the future from when the show is taking place with characters in the show...one of whom we now know is dead...
@toddprit7 жыл бұрын
no he shows him the map on the 30th, they find the note in the chair on the 29th, Hawk at night talks to the log lady on the phone where she says Laura is the one that night. Then stuff happens during the day and we have another night scene at the station so it's clearly not the 29th. Everything in ep 11 happens the day before stuff is suppose to go down at Jack Rabbit's Palace as far as we know.

Brilliant episode indeed, it got me on the edge of my seat :) But at the end it kind of had me waiting for Cooper's waking up as he ate the cherry pie, I couldn't help it. This is getting too long I guess, though I like Dougie and I respect that there's a lot of storylines that need to unfold before Dale's back. I'm looking forward to your analysis, especially that freaky kid in the car, which is just one more reason why I never watch this show before going to sleep :D

The black corn on the map... there is a log lady intro in the original series where the entire dialogue is about creamed corn.
