TWIN TROLLER X10 - INSTALLING A REVERSE PITCH PROP
The Twin Troller X10 now has a reverse pitch propeller on their new boats and a reverse pitch propeller available to retrofit older Twin Troller X10 boats. New boats will have them but boats prior to this need to have the owner's install them themselves. This video shows me installing mine. It was not difficult but you may pick up some tips from this video on how I installed the new prop.
The replacement reverse pitch propeller can be purchased directly from Freedom Electric Marine, the manufacturer of the Twin Troller X10 boat.

So why did you replace the prop

Larry, the original props that came with the TT were both left hand turn. The torque from those props required a metal adjustable keel to come on the bottom of the boat to allow you to adjust for the pull to one side from the torque. The left hand prop offsets the toque and allows the TT to track straighter and allows the removal of the metal keel from the bottom of the boat that would occasionally hang up on things. After using the left hand prop for a few years now I conclude that it was worth the small effort to install the left hand prop on the left or port side of the boat. Even large boats with multiple outboards have one prop turning the opposite direction of the other motor so this idea is not new. New TT boats all have the left hand prop already installed. Gerry, I think you are the true Twin Troller Boat Ambassador. The number of video's you have made to help other TT boat owners and those who are thinking of maybe becoming a TT boat owner (which I am one) sincerely thank you for the time and effort you take to make them. I've been considering a twin troller for a long time now and much like yourself, I decided to part with my full size boat and downsize to something much more appropriate for my age and life style. I have come to the conclusion that the hands free fishing/boating experience is well worth the price of the Twin Troller. From one avid bass fisherman to another......Tight Lines

Thanks for the information!! I hope you take your TT out on the water for a demonstration of how the new prop set-up works.... I am always fighting the torque on my TT and have been thinking about playing with the rudder adjustment to compensate for the "pull" to one side. Can you give us some more information on the adjustment of the rudder??

I am in the Twin troller on Lake Toho right now I believe that the propeller makes a good amount of difference in the way the boat turns runs straight and even seems like I picked up some speed to address

sorry for the break I had to bite but missed the fish so to address the issue of adjusting the skeg on the bottom of the boat there is a metal plate in the center rear of the boat underneath all you have to do is turn the screw and then the plate becomes loose you can adjust it off to one side if you have a lot of torque which is where I originally had that set but prior to coming out today I straightened it out so there is no adjustment it is in line with the bottom of the boat and the boat seems to track straight

The propeller on an outboard motor creates a torque that will try to make the motor turn by itself trolling motors do the same to a lesser degree having two trolling motors turning the same way compounds that torque having one Turn One Direction and One turn the other direction cancels that torque and allows the boat to track down the center line much more than it would if both trolling motors turn the same direction. In theory this would also allow more of the energy from the propellers to push the boat forward instead of trying to fight to stay on track by compensating with the amount of power to one trolling motor and less to the other to stay on track. Most large saltwater boats that have multiple outboards and they have a reverse pitch propeller on one motor to compensate for the torque of the other. This is the same thing they are are doing with the Twin Troller. I hope this answer helps. Gerry

Gerry, after watching your video on Reverse Pitch Prop I have a question. As new TTX10 owner, which has not been on the water yet. How can I tell if my TTX10 has the new reverse pitch Propeller? Should I even be concern?

Milton, Welcome to the family! When you say you have a new TTX10 I assume you really mean it is really new and not just new to you? If it is really newly minted from the factory you have nothing to worry about since for several years now new boats come from the factory with the reverse pitch prop on the left or port side motor. Older boats like mine (now six years old) originally came with both props to be right hand turn and a metal skeg on the bottom of the boat to offset the torque that would cause the boat to pull to the right. After about two years they came out with the left hand pitch prop that we purchased from FEM and thus the video I produced about how to install it. I hope that helps Gerry

The butt connectors are in a chase that is waterproofed but you could do that if you felt it was necessary. Gerry

Gerry, when I changed to my reverse propeller a problem occurred and I don't why. Thought you might have a suggestion. The grill guard attachment plates does not fit back into the recess groves. Any suggestion? What is your email so I can send a picture.

Contacted Freedom Electric and they replied that the twin troller was plastic and would expand and retract. So I removed the grill on a sunny day and attempted to replace the grill at night and did experience a ¼" retraction. My solution was to spread the pontoons with a little to replace grills. Thanks for responding.

Gerry, when traveling with the TTX10 should I take the motor off? If not, should I leave it down or raise it up.

I can only tell you what I do. Unless i would be traveling on a very bumpy potholed road I leave the Honda on the boat. The only time to raise the motor is to launch or recover the boat from the water, while fishing in a weedy area to avoid weeds dragging on the shaft of the outboard, while moving on the electric a distance so the motor shaft and prop do not act like a rudder causing the boat to track off course. All other times, even in storage, I keep the motor in the down position. I hope that helps. Gerry

Sorry about the late reply I just saw your question. My skeg fell off at the boat launch so when I did the prop change it was already off. I did not put it back on. I never realized how much it hung up on things until it was gone. I hope that helped. Gerry

What material are the seat mounts made out of, when you took it off the get to the wires I tried to listen for a clank and didnt hear anything... are they metal or plastic?

Adrian, sorry about the late reply. I just noticed your question. The seat has a cushion that is covered in fabric and is very comfortable for all day fishing. The structure of the seat is a durable plastic on a metal base that swivels. The legs are metal also. The seats are well made and they are never an issue because they do the job well enough that I do think about them. To answer your question I had to think for a minute because they are the type of seat that works well enough that you do not even know they are there. The very bottom of the seat legs are shaped like a rod. That rod slides in a track and holds the seat well but it allows you to move the seat to whatever position you want. If you slide the seat all the way forward the track ends and that allows you to remove the seat from the boat. If I fish alone I usually remove one of the seats to make it easier to get to the outboard motor and the rest of my gear. Good question though. Gerry

The rails on the bottom of the chair assembly are smooth round solid metal. The track on the top side of the boat that the metal sits in is a very durable black plastic material. I have had mine over two years, regularly put in and remove the second seat, when fishing often move the seat forward and aft, and I see no wear to that plastic rail system.
