Colosus Smash is good? Yes. But if you have burst damage already, such as Tychus and Jaina in the video, Twin Blades is arguably better. You also have much better waveclear as TB and really good sustain after lvl 7, and you can solo lane or double soak.

If that strategy doesn't at least get them a keep, it has failed. If they do that strategy after level 16, you should be able to at least take a keep of your own in return. If they do it after level 20, they have to kill your core. Even without minimap awareness, you get notified when Medivac is used. Hearthing to base takes 8 seconds. I'd say Medivac takes 3~5 seconds to depart and arrive in your base. Combined with Tyrael's Sanctification, they have 8 seconds at best before your whole team should be able to damage, crowd control and kill them. It's important to play to the strengths of your team. Their team doesn't sound like one which wins teamfights. Push that advantage right from the start. You should be at least one fort ahead. The key to that strategy is to never neglect macro. Their team will kill your structures faster, but you kill their heroes faster. If their heroes are dead, you kill their structures faster.

you need to take the talent that makes you parry pagic spells. They changed it so now Either you go tank varian and get the ability or arms varian and you can take it but cost you a bit of damage same as for fury cost you damage trade off sadly

If you want be a melee assassin Varian, choose Colossus with High King quest. If you want a bruiser Varian, choose Twin Blade with Overpower talent, instead of High King Quest. Because you have enough attack speed to reflect 3 heroic strike / parry. And your true counter is Xul's -75% attack speed, isn't blind.

This game was bad example tbh. You had 4 premade which were coordinated somehow cuz they weren't just doing well same what Ana with her Nano and Murky with his "bait". Also taking fan as example is bad idea because I noticed he's doing reversed psychology on enemies aka: On high ranks you play safe, teamfight, either win or lose, camps, repeat. Meanwhile he does more risky plays that some people would call out gold or plat but they are well executed with element of surprise aka "what an idiot would do that" but he does and this works because he got this element of surprise. He kinda reminds me of this blinking Zeratul around everything. High risk high reward, safe plays only when he can't do dangerous ones (or didn't picked hero for that).

Aric Jones Because you lose a lot of sticking power without it and blocking auto attacks on 2 charges is enough survivability if you play right and to your strengths, although there are certain situations where it’s better to have the protected (such as Pyro blast, Kelthuzad 1 shot etc.)

Force 5v5s and 1v1s? Yes. Everything else? No. In lower ranks, it's unlikely your team will stay as a coherent group of 5 outside objectives. Even then, if you have a player hellbent on splitpushing on your team, it's not going to happen. Do note how NotParadox even joined the first objective, even if he joined late and left early. Being able to estimate when your team actually needs you to win the fight comes with experience. When in doubt, as "the sololaner", go back to the basics: 1. Is there an objective going on? 2. Is the team past level 10 or even 16? If the answer to one of those questions is yes, stay with the team if there's any hint of them posturing for a fight. After level 10, you need a good reason to stay away from the team and it's better to communicate that you'll be late to the fight. Sometimes, the team manages to stall long enough to overcome the difference in numbers. After level 16, you need a very good reason to stay away from the team because the endgame phase starts around level 16 and that's the phase where a single hero kill is often the difference between being able to defend a fort/keep or not. It can also snowball into a loss because lower ranked players tend to give up on matches earlier than "those tryhards", which results in their skills and experience related to playing from behind being severely underdeveloped. A lot of NotParadox' games are a bad example in regards to your question, because if your team is three levels ahead that means they have both a talent advantage (except 19-16) and ~12% more HP and damage on everything compared to the enemy team. At that point, your team can win the fight with four heroes if they don't overcommit, while you can force them to decide whether they want to definitely lose a 4v4 while you'll likely win the 1v1, even if it means your splitpushing is delayed or even prevented, or they commit to the 5v4 while you get a fort or keep on the other side of the map even if they do win that fight.

the thing about these videos is that it doesn't really benefit anyone to learn how to do well against people that are already playing bad? the reason why people have been watching fan's videos is that he's one of the only people that is 1. good at the game and 2. playing against good people with good teammates most of the time, and even when he's doing his bronze to GM stuff he's playing against his own teammates just as much as he's playing against the other team this is something applicable to pretty much every game you're trying to get better in; when I played melee a while ago, I only ever got better when I was playing people that were better than me and able to tell me why I was doing bad. the only thing that practicing against people who were way worse than me helped with was ingraining my own bad habits further, because when you're playing against people that can't punish you for doing things wrong, you just keep doing the wrong things so for these videos instead of talking about what you yourself are doing it would probably be better to outline what the other team is doing wrong? but then you run into a similar problem that others have mentioned: pointing out what the other team is doing wrong is pretty pointless when you're playing against silvers/golds because you can only tell people how to soak lanes in so many different ways

Good input! And the last part is so true... Also endlessly brawling, while losing xp on the lanes, then losing those fights because you suddenly are 1-2 levels behind. In my experience, telling people multiple times leads to deaf ears. Now i just write once, and when we lose, remind them that langing is important to ganing xp.

I'll have to point out one aspect of this "Carrying to Masters" or "Getting out of low ranks" series I think should be improved upon. I think the reason behind so many complaints about smurfing is because NotParadox wins these games too easily. Of course, some of it can be attributed to the snowball effect, but the problem is that NotParadox presents a complete package for each hero. I think doing it more step-by-step with self-imposed challenges could alleviate some of the disconnect with the viewers these videos are addressing. For example, NotParadox only commits when it is "safe", most of the time, but a lot of lower ranked players just don't know how to estimate the risk of these engagements beforehand. They usually have little map awareness and little to no camera movement going on. I've been talking about self-imposed challenges, so I think it's time to deliever some examples: 1. Block out the minimap*. 2. Always keep the camera locked on the hero. 3. Normal cast only, no quick cast. That ways, those players have an easier time seeing when you're using which ability. 4. No use of the chat function. These are most likely not the only restrictions one could apply. With those in place, the idea is to lift one of them for each showcase match and focus on how to make use of that aspect, which should illustrate why it is so important and how correctly using it can gain your team advantages. * It's fine if the minimap is still visible for the viewers. That depends on the setup. If NotParadox is playing in fullscreen mode, he could cut out a piece of paper/cardboard to cover the right bottom edge of his screen. This would actually be preferably as the viewers of the video can retrace where/when NotParadox could've avoided those positioning mistakes. If it makes the commentary easier, it's fine to record the match and then record commentary over it. HotS replays sadly can't show player-specific data like their mouse positioning or the range indicators as they "hold" an ability, so they'd make for a poor replacement.

One has the benefit of not having a troll, get to have a good comp without anyone fighting each other and better teamwork + people listen to pings and one doesn't have any of those.
