In addition, thanks for identifying the Honda Acty for me. Now all the photos I uploaded to Facebook are captioned, hopefully accurately. Take a look if you've got a minute spare.

Great job, I haven't been to a car show for years and you brought me an overseas show with top-notch informative narration. Loved those old-school Minis and that modded Volvo. The Japanese cars from the 90s were possibly some of the best engineering from Japan in my lifetime. Loved it.

@@TwinCam Hi again, Ed! I watch a lot of political Y.T. channels too and leave my own comments. This arena often becomes quite nasty and one (sadly) expects this. However, there is neither need nor reason for anyone to be rude or abusive within your genre here. Great video TC. I wondered if the green Mini could be a bit older than 1964 cos the number plate doesn't have a letter for the registration year? And totally agree about the Marina..its so nice to see everyday cars that the average person would have, being preserved so well :)
@discogareth2 жыл бұрын
Age identifier letters didn’t come nationwide until C reg in 1965. Much of the country didn’t see A or B reg. so a 1964 mini without age identifier is quite normal.
@TwinCam2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ed :) As Gareth said though, age identifiers, though introduced in 1963, were not mandatory until 1965, so many of what would have been A or B registered cars slipped through with no identifier.

Hi Ed, Beautifully presented to your high standard. I loved that Honda NSX. Like you I loved the Wankel engines. I owned a NSU RO80 when I was in the Army. It suffered the problem that contributed to the demise because of failed rotor tips. A specialist engineer produced hardened tips which solved that problem. I had SS exhaust. It had beautiful deep blue velour seats and was in a lovely powder blue. The semi auto gearbox was a delight (it cured you of the bad habit of resting your hand on the gear lever as that would disengage the drive 😳) a very modern looking car for the era. I lusted after a Saab 900 and the Volvo Amazon. Great video Ed Dave

I had an ‘89 SAAB 900 for about 2 years. It was the 4-door with the B202. The only problem was, the car was 20 years old and it started falling apart despite my regular maintenance. Regardless, it was an absolute joy to drive, even with the vague gear change. Good handling, great steering, comfortable velour upholstery, and full of practical and thoughtful touches that I genuinely appreciated. You’re right to like them. Great video as usual. I’m hoping for some Rootes/Chrysler Europe content in the next video.

Yes that S800 is a gem... No denying that 😁 To me the Marina is special, earliest memories of the UK. I guess aged seven, being picked up by my mate's late father in his Estate, from Heathrow to Shillingford in the back, between suitcases, the both of us pulling stupid faces on following traffic 🤪!

I thoroughly enjoy your packed and informative videos and look forward to receiving the new notifications. Some lovely cars on show but I feel I have to mention the Rover Mini Cooper Sport. Whilst this sub 400 mile example is a joy to behold, I am somewhat saddened that it has never been properly used which is what car ownership is really all about. I would far rather see a 20 year old car that looks good/great but has c60000 - 90000 miles on it meaning that it has been enjoyed and cherished rather than just babied and left to grow old. Probably just me I know.

I really enjoy Ed's enthusiasm for the Morris Marina. It boggles me, but I hope it serves as a strong antidote to all the negative press the poor thing received back in the day from British journalism. I also agree that the midrange Michelotti Triumph is a very good looking and well packaged car with presence and stance, and this goes for all versions including the FWD 1500. I look forward to a Twincam review of that model, or its sister the 1500 TC.

Although you are some 35 years younger than me your depth of knowledge of cars that I grew up with and subsequently have in depth first hand experience of due to 22 years in the motor trade never ceases to amaze me. I absolutely loved the Marina which is an 1800 Special which was only produced as the Mk2 car and was effectively HL spec without the twin carb engine, being a real anorak it is Astral Blue and not denim which was a few shades lighter and did not appear until the Mk 3 car. As an aside the Honda Legend was interesting in so far as I had a customer who was a retired diamond dealer who bought a Honda Legend and a Rover 825 Sterling so he could compare the two and decide which one he liked best.

Great presentation! The Honda Z600 reminds me of the early Honda Civic, the one the made Honda a global car manufacturer. And Honda was the first to start a luxury division, that being the Acura, and the Acura Legend here in the US. The NSX for us was Acura, and it was coveted, being that ultra-rare sports car. I like both the Mazda RX-7 and RX-8, that rotary engine sounds like nothing else in the world. One has to service it properly or else it will become a money pit. That blue Austin-Healey Sprite is simply gorgeous, and yes, blue is my favourite colour! Nothing says sports car than the British!

Excellent video and very professional in research and execution.....except for one thing! The engine in the big wing dolomite isn't a GM derived ecotec engine (GM is a dirty word in Saab circles!) but is in fact a Saab 16 valve ecopower engine, as transversely fitted to 9000s, OG 9-3s and OG 9-5s. It's basically the same engine as that in the 900, but with a different block to suit the transverse application. Earlier ones were designated B204 or B234, depending on whether the capacity was 2.0 or 2.3 litres. These engines are legendary for their ability to be tuned and can produce 400 bhp without any internal mods. The later engines - B205/235 - are basically the same, but the internals were pared back, somewhat, so they need modification to achieve the same levels of power. None the less, they will still handle 300 bhp with ease. Many 9-3s have met untimely ends so that vauxhall owners can fit a proper engine into their cars!
@TwinCam2 жыл бұрын
Ahh! I had imagined that it was a GM derived one both by the name on the cam cover and the fact it wasn't slanted over like the old Triumph based engines! Thanks Jonathan :)

For once, I'm late for watching your excellent video, sorry;) What a great idea to have focused on Japanese cars in comparison with british ones. Besides, the similarities of automotive tastes between Japan and Great Britain, from a certain point of view, have always struck me ... By the way, it seems the first Datsun / Nissan in the 1930's was a copy of the Austin Seven, then, after the war, a number of Japanese manufacturers have made british sedans under license or inspired by.... There would be a lot of research to do on this. Thank you for this report!

As always, Ed, terrific video. I do not agree with all the kudos given Honda, though. I remember when the S2000 came out. I went with a friend to see it at the dealer. Forget a test drive. They very nearly had to call the fire brigade to take the car apart to get me out. I was stuck half way in! I have a thong against cars I do not fit behind the wheel of. Call me odd if you like, but it is hard to be enthusiastic about a car I can never drive. Also, Honda engines are precisely opposite of what I prefer. I love low end torque rather than high end horsepower. That is why my 89 Mercury with a 5.8 litre engine with h an automatic gearbox matched a friend's 89 Honda Civic with a 1.8 litre and 5 speed manual for highway fuel consumption. As for the Celica bumpers being integrated, Toyota Crown was another, but hardly the earliest. The entire "crash bumper" legislation in the US was because bumpers had become so integrated they were useless. 67-72 Chevrolet Corvette, 71-73 Dodge Dart, 68-72 Chevrolet Chevelle, and the rest of the A bodies, the Tri-5 Chevies, the list goes on and on back into the late 40s for cars with bumpers being integrated into the design.
