I really like the way you have produced this. Your more thoughtful and considered style really works well and stands out from the casual walk-around. I'm sure it takes a whole lot more work in the photography, editing, scripting and so on, but it is worth it.

Thanks as always mate :) It does take a little more time, but I've scrapped a number of show videos I recorded this year as I felt them not good enough due to the misguidedness and shakiness of that style of walkaround video. I thought it was time to do something a little different, and here we are!

Great video, Ed. Well done indeed. Your way of dealing with the sensory overload is spot on and brilliant. The walk around videos make the viewer dizzy, and the ambient noise level is at times painful. This way, too, you are able to focus on a car long enough to say what you want to about it before moving on. Terrific!

Well done, Ed. Your enthusiasm is infectious. As in every country, there are cadres of enthusiasts that keep some very rare of-their-time oddities alive. I was able to attend a GCCC driving event in Surrey in 1996 I believe. One of the older members was there in his 1947 Bristol that he had bought new. Talk about a time-warp. Unlike the other perfectly restored cars there, this one had so much patina it should have been illegal. Car people are the best!

The attention you pay to cars, not based on the image they confer upon their owners or what the neighbors might think, but to their inherent merits, is really refreshing. Having watched a lot of Top Gear, GT, Wheeler Dealers, Fifth Gear, etc., so many good cars tend to get ignored, derided, or written off for their “image.” I’m glad you see, and educate, more deeply.

This style of presentation at a show is much better than the walk-around versions with a hand held wobbly camera and ad-libbing, nice dissolve between shots, excellent steady HD close-ups and a good script written, timeline was useful as well, It helped that the halls weren't too busy, or very quiet, some looked like they hadn't opened to the public yet, perhaps exhibitors or press day which was good for filming.

Hey Ed, I’m almost embarrassed heaping more praise on you but your presentation is extraordinary. You could knock those 3 clowns on top gear into a cocked hat. Instead of trying to outdo each other on gimmicks and comedy which drowned the cars, your sheer enthusiasm, knowledge, professionalism delivery is amazing. I wish you had the camera on you when you said “I do like some restraint” to see if it was ‘a slip of the tongue’ or, ‘tongue in cheek’ 😂😂😂 There were some beautiful cars, my favourite from that group was the Rover P5B and, in my favourite colour. Also loved the VW Variant (square back) when I was in the army in Germany in 1969 I used to drive one, fantastic car, amazing acceleration, comfort, usability for that age of car. Loved the AMT Ford Escort. I wish I could afford one. Might have to sell a kidney though, slightly used but lots of miles left in it (the liver is another matter) If a tv producer doesn’t snap you up soon they need to wake up. Looking forward to the next episode. Well done Ed Dave 👍

I found out that the white J reg Fiesta RS Turbo at 20:08 was Mike Brewer's as part of the Wheeler Dealers Dream Car series, so that explains why that one appeared at this show. I was surprised to be honest because I watched this video months ago, then only last night I found the Wheeler Dealers episode and towards the end of it you can see the RS Turbo parked up next to the silver one, thought the place looked familiar but that's because I saw this video first and only just revisited it. Thanks Rob 🙂 Part 2 will be here on either Wednesday or Thursday. As for the prices, I don’t know. As has been said, I think there was an extra digit there. Certainly, my friends and I couldn’t make sense of the prices on all the VP stand cars.

Well sir, like an absolute fool, I did try to film every single car at the show (apart from things like a 2006 BMW 3-Series and a 2007 Toyota RAV4, which I would argue should not be there), and it ended up being sixteen 35 minute videos. I don't recommend trying to do things like that. This more methodical and ordered approach is much better for people who were not able to attend to get an overview of what was there.

Didthe Meastro vdp have those alloys from new? Didn't think they did to be honest. Think the "plas" of vdp is pronounced "plah".
@TwinCam3 жыл бұрын
Yes, early Maestro VPs were available with cheesegraters. Over time the wheels changed. Vanden Plas is a Flemish name, so the ‘s’ is pronounced. It’s a common misconception that it’s ‘plah’, as it would be if it were French, and even BL were sometimes guilty of it.

wow that metro rio reminded me of my second car, a metro manhattan, it had the 1.4 engine, 75ish hp which was so much better than the standard 1.1, about 55hp, it's a miracle I didn't kill myself in it then even more amazing I didn't get any points on my license, just escaped with a few angry lectures from the police. I had the GTI eventually but the extra 25ish hp from it being 16 valve instead of 8 wasn't as good as I thought it would be (no offence twin cam, lol) , still happy memories, thanks for the video.

I know I've said it to you before but I love your enthusiasm for seventies and eighties BL products and although they were often blighted by poor quality control and many people can't see past the endless industrial disputes they were and are quite good products and very underrated and certainly by the time the Metro, Maestro and Montego came along they were as reliable as any of their contemporaries. The Maestro with the talking dash however whilst a novelty when new soon became tiresome and the instruments could be a bit unreliable. Was a little disappointed that you didn't feature any Granadas in the Ford section but I take on board that you said you weren't going to hurtle around the show in an attempt to show every car.
@TwinCam2 жыл бұрын
Thanks again Phil 🙂 I did originally have a Mk2 Granada in the video, but cut it out along with a few others as the video was getting a bit long!

Such a shame I didn't see you at the show, I would have loved to pay my respects. Perhaps you chose not to have Melvin on the stand in order to go unnoticed!
@TwinCam3 жыл бұрын
Nope. Melvin's not quite good enough anyway for this show, but as a club we always switch around the cars. Melvin was at the Restoration Show in 2019, so he's effectively barred from appearing at the NEC for a few years!

@@TwinCam I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that they're not a model-specific club? Therefore, there's the variety of cars that you can't achieve with a stand full of Allegros, Maxis or even (sorry, Ed) Metros.

What about the Heterosexual Classic Car Club ? Why bring sexual orientation into everything ... it’s totally about the cars not people’s agendas.
@TwinCam3 жыл бұрын
The GCCG was founded in 1988. The same year it was made illegal to talk about homosexuality in UK schools. That club exists for a very good reason, allowing LGBTQ+ people to congregate and partake in their hobby without fear of discrimination for their sexuality. No heterosexual club exists as heterosexual people are not stigmatised in the UK, it's that simple.
