Twining and Hemstitch are the best stitches to add structure for your piece. They both lock in the warp strings so they aren't sliding around. I love to use twining at the start of my pieces sot hat when I take the weaving off of the loom the warp strings stay put.
We have talked about both of these stitches in past videos, but after some feedback we decided to remake this tutorial so that it is zoomed in a lot more and more clear to follow.

Man, odd to think that this was a regular thing just available to do at my German kindergarten. Bringing home your own small carpets was cool

Very helpful, thank you so much. I have a fairly big woven piece waiting to come off the loom, and I was unsure how to finish it off, basically which method to use. This has helped no end, and I am going to finish it with the twining idea.

Hi Jenell, thankyou for going over this again. The Hem stitch is the one i couldn't manage to do. Like you I much prefer the Twining Stitch. Have stuck to this one, so maybe I'll just carry on doing the Twining stitch. Thanks for going iver them again though. Happy Weaving. Take care & stay safe. Love to you & Cody Jen xxxx

I love your needles, I’m in U.K. so just have to watch in awe! Other needles are just not the same- I’m so envious and perhaps one day you could consider including posting to U.K. ?? I’ve just taken up weaving and love it - got bored with patchwork!! Thankyou for the wonderful videos, I’ve learned so much.

Thank You for doing these videos. When twining, when you down, under, and through, are you going undertook the yarn only to both the yarn and the thread. It’s hard for me to tell watching the video. Thank you,

Hi,new to weaving and your channel. Waiting on package from Amazon to start. Love your videos. My question is, can I combine the twining stitch with regular weaving throughout a piece or is that stitch just for beginning/ending a piece?
@spruceandlinen

Love this video just what I needed can you use warp string to do the hem stitch ?
@spruceandlinen
@spruceandlinen 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you could, it might slip a bit though since it is so thin and the warp strings are so spread out.

Let’s say I REALLY wanted to use a weaving loom to create soft toys like a soft animal doll, I get some good sewing patterns and translate them into weaving patterns of shapes on the loom, could twining all around this shapes lock the fabric to the warp so I can take it down and use it as a pieces of fabric? 😯 I really want to WEAVE toys, but I can’t see any one doing it. I am so determined to creatively use a weaving loom.

You could definitely use a twining stitch to lock things in place, but I would suggest also knotting your warp strings together as well to insure nothing moves or comes undone.

I’m so confused as to why there is so much yarn left on both pieces that we cut? Why would both need to be so long if I can only continue the design with one?
@spruceandlinen
@spruceandlinen 2 жыл бұрын
Oh that's just me cutting the pieces too long 🤣 I assume you're talking about the twining section? What I typically do now is just use one piece, weave in one row of plain weave (leaving at least about a 4" tail), turn around and do the twining and then continue on with my design.

Love your videos! Can you use any type of yarn when twining or doing hemstitch as a way to secure your piece? I use warp cotton on the bottom when I begin a weaving thinking it will be more secure but would prefer to use whatever yarn will be used in the weaving.
@spruceandlinen
@spruceandlinen 3 жыл бұрын
I usually use a chunkier yarn like I show here to do the twining. I find it "sticks" better. Most yarns will work, but if they're too thin or slippery than they won't hold as well.
