Fun fact: the studio didn't want to invest in this movie, but Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito believed in the project so they agreed to be in the film with no salary, only with the promise of a percentage from the film's profits. Off a budget of just 18M, it earned 216 million raking them in a lot of money.

@@dansmith7009 They got bit a couple of times like this, but Star Wars and Back to the Future were the big ones. They gave Lucas merchandising and other rights. Then they paid the BttF actor percentages of the profits, (The actor who played Bif says the studio claimed for decades the BttF lost money). Studios stopped making these deals so quickly, then they tried again with DowneyJr on Ironman. Marvel might have flopped, Downey was unreliable, but the result was the MCU, and Downey made a fortune.

The stuff with Vincent discovering what the doctor thinks about him and how Julius explains their different experiences in life... it hits different as an adult. As a kid I thought of DeVito's character as more of a joke and as an adult I see him as the real pathos of this story. Yes, it's a silly comedy. But also, there's a lot of heart here.

Because the studio was so reluctant to put Arnold in a comedy, he, Danny and director Ivan Reitman all agreed to not take a salary upfront; in exchange they got percentage points on the gross at the box office. According to Arnold, he makes so much residual money off of TWINS, he’d never have to do another movie ever again.

"Arnie's little girlfriend" in this movie is Kelly Preston. She was a pretty well known actress in her day. Was the real life wife of John Travolta, and has sadly since passed away. I'd agree though, she was always a pretty lady, but she's drop dead GORGEOUS in this film.

The first movie "Lassie Come Home" (1943) was filmed in the US, but took place in Scotland-Yorkshire, and starred Roddy McDowell. However, "Lassie" was best known as a TV show in the US that aired 1954-1974. Also, Lassie was almost always a male dog actor. 💙

In 1992 I moved from California to Tennessee and was blown away by people smoking in the Piggly Wiggly. There were ash cans at the ends of the aisles and there was a group of people hanging out at the bakery drinking coffee and smoking. It was the weirdest thing. California's indoor smoking ban was still a couple years down the road, but I'd still never seen smoking in a grocery store before.

Car-phones were the "cheap" way to access mobile phone signals, in the early days of cellphone technology (in 1984), A car-phone cost $2k and a cellphone cost $4k (plus $25 a month, and unto 40 cents a minute). The first cellphone was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X it weighed 2 pounds, and was about 12" long, 2" wide, and 4" thick. It looked like a fancy version of the Vietnam era military radio communicators (without the giant battery and transmission backpack).

Roots was a mega-miniseries that ran on 8 consecutive nights in 1977 on ABC. It was a telling of the slavery and post-slavery eras, by slave descendant Alex Haley. His ancestor was Kunta Kinte, portrayed by newcomer LeVar Burton.
