I think it is very kind of Alicia to explain her and Walt’s philosophy regarding nutrition. It’s not justification! I think young mothers could learn so much by following this channel, and listening to Alicia’s explanations. She avoids so many things that older generations did that were mistakes. Some commenters criticize and say things like they should have to finish what is on their plate-they still haven’t learned what a mistake that was!

Very healthy fooy on the others with portion control. There's always someone out there to be nasty, probably because of how their kids eat. So be kind people, if you can't than don't watch or comment. Your awesome Alicia

My mother raised my brother and I the same way. Never forced to try food, finish food. If we didn't like something she made us something else. Any food was available at any time. There were healthy foods and sweets and snacks . We had no eating issues. We were always in the 90th percentile for height and the 50 th percentile for weight. Happy healthy children who did very well in our studies as well. My mother was a pioneer in many child rearing ways. Happy to see you are doing as she did....and she did this in the late 1950s

My parents were born in the 1920’s so they grew up during the depression and eventually had 9 kids together. So for us, we had to eat what was on our plates because they did not want to waste food that they had to buy for so many of us. The only food I did not have to eat was liver. I remember my dad saying I had to sit there until I ate it….well I never ate it, so from then on I would have a fried egg while everyone else had liver 😄. To this day I will not touch it. One of dad’s sayings was “this is not a restaurant “.
@karenvillanueva1301
@karenvillanueva1301 16 күн бұрын
Ellie, that's so wonderful to hear! What a great thing for your mother to do back then--truly a pioneer! We had no choice and little to eat of nutritional value, being very poor. And if we did get meat, it was often boiled kidneys or overcooked liver and we could not leave the table until we ate it, no matter how awful it tasted. And it makes a huge difference in how we developed and did in school. I left home at 15 to work and live on my own (as did my brother and my sister) and that's when I started eating good and nutritious foods! It was traumatizing going to school being hungry and being ill with pneumonia and being forced to go to school when we were ill. So I love watching the loving Alicia doing such a great job of raising the twins and giving them so much variety and never forcing them to eat things they don't like!! She's amazing!❤
@karenvillanueva1301
@karenvillanueva1301 16 күн бұрын
We were extremely poor and the good and nutritious food was made for our dad, and we got the cheap food like puffed rice with skim milk powder, or spaghetti (no meat) for supper, and sometimes just bread and jam for days when we were at our poorest. And we had to smell the steak and eggs or the pork chops and gravy and greens my father got, which made our stomachs growl. We went to school hungry far too often and we were hungry so much during our childhoods that it was an impediment to learning. So watching the Barton Twins being given so much variety in their diets, and not being forced to eat anything is such a great thing for me to watch. It is actually healing for me to see how loving Alicia is and all the ways she makes a beautiful life for the darling twins. She is giving her girls the very best start in life! And I love seeing that! ❤

@@kellysaunooke740 Thank you Kelly. We had a very rough start in life in many ways: abuse, neglect and not being loved. It did have a lasting effect. All of us went on to leave home as soon as we could, to work and support ourselves at such a tender age. And to this day, I tend to over purchase food from the fear of not having enough. It doesn't get children off to a good start in life, to be sure. But thank you so much for your kind response.❤️

Luckily, it's so hard to imagine nowadays--but the "eat everything on your plate" was a way to teach children the value of food, and to teach them how cherished it should be and not to waste it. I believe a better way to phrase this (and was the way my dad said it--was "take all you want, but eat all you take"). This was when serving dishes were passed around the dinner table, and you served yourself. This adage came from people that had lived through hard times and had seen a lot more starvation in this country, or experienced it themselves.

That's how we did it. We filled our own plates, but we had to eat what we put on our plates. Everything served was healthy. We were taught to read labels at an early age, and taken to the store once a week to choose one treat. That treat had to fit a certain criteria, meaning it had to be made of recognizable food items (like potato chips, because the base was potatoes, or a milk chocolate bar because its base was milk). We were taught portion control and what ingredients were to be avoided, and which ones were good. I follow this way of eating to this day, and it has served me extremely well. Forced feeding is horrible and clearly abusive, but so is allowing children to overeat or to eat solely unhealthy food choices.

Good Morning Alicia, I enjoyed and appreciated your dialog regarding portion control, as I am of the generation you spoke of (much older). Your girls already seem to have healthy eating patterns so, great job. I love when they have their conversations with each other, they are the cutest girls on the planet, Lol. ❤ Happy Sunday

I think I enjoy every video just a little bit more than the last one. They get more articulate every day😊... just so fun to watch. I had to pull my husband in to watch this and we both just loved every minute 😍💓. From their precious pigtails to their sweet conversation and sharing. I adore hearing them referring to each other as sissy. I could squeeze these two with hugs and kisses 😗. Thanks for sharing 😘

I prefer to eat until I am “satisfied” and not “full” or miserably stuffed. i think we were all raised to eat until we are miserably stuffed and that to me was always taking in more food than I really needed. It works for me. I enjoy eating but, never enjoyed the feeling of being overly full. 😉

Alicia, you make a great point. Growing up I was always told if I wanted dessert I had to finish what was on my plate. We also got ....do you know how many people are starving in (fill in the country of your choice). When I was older my mind set was, eat what you want and don't worry about it. Nothing worse than being forced to eat food you hate to the point of gagging.

It's cruel to make children eat food that they genuinely gag on, but it is good to teach children what to eat and why. A friend of mine was allowed to eat anything she wanted any time she wanted. She and her siblings all got cancer at early ages. Their oncologists believe those cancers were linked to their poor diets.

Absolutely agree, the variety of foods these two darling try is amazing. You let them enjoy their food, you never force them to eat something. I have tried different foods since watching!!! When I think of the children who are given ready meals and take aways it’s a pity that they don’t watch this. Keep doing what you are doing it’s brilliant!!!! ❤️

What an enjoyable Sunday video! Love, love their interactions, brings back vivid memories when I took care of my twin granddaughters for a while. Mom, your feeding philosophy is so on target based on research. But it is also a luxury to have food abundance here. When I grew up during WWII in Germany at their age, my mother was dependent on rations, if available, and of course had to force feed us when she had food so we had sufficient reserve when none was available. Yes, later, it was expected to eat what’s on the plate or no desert, or re-served for breakfast. You are so wise to never force feed. That’s why they enjoy such amazing variety of food and enjoy meal times. 💖💖💖

@UteGoldkuhle It seems like people who lived through WWII on either side of the Atlantic/Pacific were quite resourceful and were made of tougher stock than some people today. Maybe that's why Americans refer to them as the Greatest Generation! 😊😉❣
