As a mental health worker, I feel like we educate children too much on mental health, This causes them to pathogise negative feelings as something "sinister" and "wrong" when they are normal. I think as a profession, it's time to build resilience. Be the victim or the victor.

This song brought so many emotions. It came out at the same time my 6-year-old daughter passed away. We watched her slip away and knew there was nothing that else we could do for her. As her parents we laid beside her in the hospital bed and memorized everything about her. We stayed awake several days in a row, never knowing when she would take her last breath. We finally fell asleep the night before she passed and now feel guilty that we missed that time with her. I wish I would have known how to save a life. In the end, she saved 3 lives through organ donation.

As a child, I was addicted to this song. I would listen whenever I could. I would smile singing it. But after my first attempt at 14yrs old, I sobbed. So this song means a lot to me. It was the first time I cried during my six years of depression and self-harm. After, I only got better. Had one last attempt and found happiness with my new stepmom. This song still makes me cry every time I hear it. He really does know how to save a life.

I’m 20 years old and struggle with depression and anxiety and I worked at a summer camp this past summer. I worked there for 2 months (overnight camp) and I was the counselor to 45 11-12 year old boys. One night in the first session (I was sitting watch for the unit) a kid came out crying and I didn’t know what happened. I tried to calm him down and asked him what was happening. I eventually got the answer. He wanted to kill himself. Never in my life had I felt more scared for a child/sad that a child could have those thoughts. I told my supervisor and he went home the next day. If only I could’ve realized what he was going thru before he had to come to me crying because he didn’t know what to do :/
@ryansprague2132

Partially true. The lead singer was a camp counselor at a camp for troubled teens and he was inspired by one boy's story of how all the people in his life thought they knew how to help but were basically just telling him to "stop it or I'm not talking to you anymore" when what he really needed was support. That inspired this song where the verses are talking about an adult thinking they know what's best for this troubled kid and the chorus lamenting how they couldn't save them. It's obviously open to some interpretation now, but the main takeaway I think is that when people are struggling like this they need support and someone to listen, not someone to tell them how to fix themselves.

My best friend committed suicide almost 15 years ago at the age of twenty, and this song always both makes me sad and brings me comfort at the same time. It’s a reminder that even though I didn’t see the signs that time, there are ways to recognize the sign and help someone who is struggling.

I really REALLY appreciate you two using your platform to encourage seeking help and counseling for people in a dark place. I feel like many men and especially men in the black community are stigmatized against seeking help for their emotional well-being for fear of being seen as weak. You two sincerely taking to time to talk abouy the importance of talking to someone sends a powerful message. It seems clear to me that you two were raised to be good people by good people.

The first time I heard this song was the day after my divorce. Married 12 years with 2 kids. I was an alcoholic and I blamed me. I went to a bar at 7am. Its like that in Illinois. I walked in got a drink and a shot. THEN on the small TV in the corner of the bar this video comes on. I take my drinks over and sit at a table. It was the most amazing song I ever heard. I cried, and I felt that I had to save my own life. I never drank those 2 drinks. And never touched alcohol again. That was 14 years ago.

My dad and I listen to this together every time we get the music going so we know that we can talk to one another if we need to. It's a subtle yet loud reminder that we're there for each other. We've both lost people, him the most because of life in the Army, so we listen to this song. Every time it's on we sing it together, just a small thing to keep us in the real world especially since I'm his eldest daughter and sometimes we get caught up in the day and forget that the world isn't so pretty.

Hope things are better for you. I've had mild depression for a while but nothing to the level where you're at. But I quit taking pain meds that I was prescribed, and lost an amazing job because of covid, two grandparents, all my savings, I'm 10 months behind on my mortgage, and the depression and anxiety of the pain meds alone being quit was horrendous. And I'm lucky that the majority of that is chemical and I can force myself to go to the gym to feel better and I know that when you're in a depression it's really hard to do anything. But don't ever be afraid to ask for help. Good luck!

Guys, you know I've been watching you for months. You continue to surprise me. This is one of my favourite songs and meant a lot to me, but I'm ashamed to say I didn't think you guys would like it. Your reaction to it is overwhelming, and this is the first video of yours to make me shed a tear. Proves why I support you on Patreon. Best reactors on KZbin.

The melody and the music are diametrically opposed to the lyrics. The melody is upbeat and danceable, but the subject matter is life-threatening. It’s as if to say he wasn’t taking her seriously when she needed him. The music reflects that he thought it was just another conversation. I think the fact that they had a piano and there was significant. The piano was the understated seriousness of what the person was talking about.

I am crying as I type this! In 2015 my son’s fiancée shot and killed her self! She had breathing problems and he was always calling the ambulance for her. She was a beautiful young woman and I loved her. She was always happy around everybody and she made us all happy just being around her. We all wondered if we missed the signs? I think she just got tired of fighting for every breath and took her life not knowing the damage that it would leave behind!! I will always miss beautiful Sarah!! 😪💔

I'm so deeply sorry. William Styron's "Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Madness" talks about his forays into suicide and he explains his experience with that never-dulling chemical depression that drives people to do that. Sometimes there's nothing you can do. I've been to that edge and never went back, thank god. Styron's book helped me understand my own head better than ever. @ohwellwhateverr
@ohwellwhateverr 4 жыл бұрын
Working Class Brit Then you don’t understand what toxic masculinity is. It’s a model of masculinity that values violence over thought, silence over communication, outer over inner strength. A key component of that is the forced suppression of emotions in men. It equates emotions with weakness. The irony is that by doing so, it leaves men ill-equipped to deal with tough circumstances. It leaves men mentally vulnerable - they’re less inclined than women to confide in a friend or professional, so they bottle it up. Hence the high suicide rate. You should also note that attempted suicides are actually far higher amongst women, but since women are less inclined to violence (since they’re not raised to be so), they tend to choose less effective methods (overdosing, cutting, drowning, rather than hanging or shooting). Thus their suicide rate appears lower. I realise that wanting to end “toxic masculinity” sounds like an attack on men, but really it’s the opposite. Only by normalising men being open about their emotions and finding productive outlets can we lower that suicide rate.
@Pablosplace
@Pablosplace 4 жыл бұрын
@@ohwellwhateverr You're a female, you have no understanding of male biology just like I have no understanding of female biology. Stop attacking makes for being male. Masculinity creates heroes and role models, generalising that masculinity is toxic is like me saying that femininity is toxic.
