Hi friends! I hope you're all doing well. Today, I'm reacting to something many of you have been eagerly waiting for: Twisted by Team StarKid! 🎭
You've been requesting this forever, and I finally dived into the song "Twisted." It's kind of like Wicked but focuses on Jafar from Aladdin. This musical flips classic Disney stories on their heads, and I'm loving it so far! The acting, lyrics, and rock-pop score are fantastic.
I noticed a Kickstarter raised $140,000 to make this happen in Chicago-impressive! I'm curious about the Disney references, though-hope they got the clearances!

Starkid started by doing a parody of HP that got blessed as fair-parody as long as they didn't call it "Harry Potter" so it's "A Very Potter Musical" - they're basically doing the live theater version of Mad Magazine and by Twisted they were very in tune with the line they couldn't cross. They are now writing original musicals, and if you haven't seen "Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals" and "Nerdy Prudes Must Die" which have pro-shots they funded and posted to KZbin, you should!

Oh God, I love Twisted! It's one of the greatest parody projects I've come across. And this version of Jafar manages to be both compelling and hilarious all at once.

Oh my God, no way! This is my absolute, favorite Starkid musical, and in my opinion the best one they’ve ever come out with. If you ever take the time to watch more of it, Jeff Blim, who plays Aladdin, really steals the show as well as the actor who plays Jafar. The whole thing is just probably done.

Starkid knows how to tiptoe right up to the line of copyright infringement. They’ve done parodies of Harry Potter, Batman (and all DC superheroes), Star Wars, etc. For the record, you’ll notice if you watch this show they never use the names Jasmine, Iogo, Ursula, Scar, Gaston, Cruella, etc. They’ve never been sued (although they did “Harry Potter: The Musical while students at UMichigan and the school made them change the name out of fear of a lawsuit) so it became “A Very Potter Musical”. Similarly, their Batman parody changed the name of the main character: Holy Musical B@man! They’ve been together 15 years and have created 15 musicals, all of them available on YT, a few have licensing rights available, and one actually had a run Off-Broadway (Trail to Oregon) All their shows are well done, a lot of fun and well worth watching.

Ok, you seem skeptical, which is fair if it's your first time viewing Starkid imo. But there's a reason they have such a huge following. Their newest musical has raised over half a million on Kickstarter, their best funded musical yet.🎉 Also, to answer your question, Twisted is more than 10 years old and they haven't been sued yet.😊 I encourage you to check out more of their shows, especially their newer, original shows , the Hatchetfield triology (The Guy who Didn't like musicals, Black Friday and Nerdy Prudes must Die). If you dont want to commit to full shows as of yet, you can do some songs to get a feel for it. Tip : You can react to full songs, even full shows, they don't copyright it as they have already put the entire musical on KZbin already. Enjoy!

The Trail to Oregon is honest to god my favourite StarKid piece. I sort of fell off of their content after it (the new ones so far are fine just not my favourite), but it’s just an excellent adaptation of a stupid simple game to a full musical

Found you because of this reaction. N9t to speak for the entire Starkid fandom, but I think a fair few of us love watching reactions to our favorite shows. Twisted has long been a favorite of mine, along with the Hatchetfield multiverse (The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, Black Friday, and Nerdy Prudes Must Die). Starkid also has a sister company, and their musical "Spies Are Forever" is a perfect study on inverting tropes.

"The crap I see on Broadway today" refers to NEW shows that are opening. Shows that have long proven their artistic and monetary value & merit (Wicked, Phantom, Lion King, Chicago, Hamilton, Book of Mormon, etc...) are NOT what I'm referring to.
