Fun Facts: This movie is actually a sequel/soft reboot of Twister with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. Which is where your 90's feel probably comes from. Some of the references to the first movie in this one are: The Dorothy tracking device, decals of Muskogee State University on a new weather device, and a cameo by James Paxton, the son of Bill Paxton who played Bill Harding in the original. Would be awesome if you did a reaction to the original. Its good too. Personally I think its possible that either Bill Paxton's character either was Kates father or was one of her professors. Tho the character is never mentioned directly and sadly since Bill Paxton has passed he could couldn't be in the movie

Overpasses are, indeed, the worst in tornadoes, but they're still better than nothing else when it's a last resort.

I’d obviously prefer a dedicated storm shelter, but an overpass is definitely better than standing in an open field. I really don’t understand why people say they are “the worst”!
@BeeWhistler
@BeeWhistler Ай бұрын
@@edinalewis4704You should probably look that up, then. I don’t know anyone who thinks that your only two options are sheltering in an underpass or standing in a field. Wind picks up speed as it squeezes under a bridge and you can easily be swept out, as seen in the beginning sequence. The tornado will also pelt you with debris. Those people who have managed to shelter under them and survive are the lucky ones, not the smart ones. Many more people have died of this myth. Ideally you find a real shelter in time, but failing that you’re supposed to flatten yourself in the lowest place you can find. If you’re lucky, it’s not an EF4 or EF5 and doesn’t pass right over you. If it’s either of those, it’s unlikely you’ll survive anywhere but a reinforced underground shelter in a direct hit.
@kylejohnston2120
@kylejohnston2120 Ай бұрын
The wind speeds increase and you’re more likely to be thrown around or hit by debris. It’s better just to get in a ditch and cover your head. With an EF5 like in the movie though, just consider yourself dead.

As someone who spent my childhood in Kansas this movie hit home because our town had storm that could cause as much damage as a tornado, though thankfully had one directly hit us. So I loved that as exciting as it is to chase storms they still showed how bad the aftermath is for people who lose their homes and even their lives. And for people who never lived in tornado alley, no it’s not something they made up for the movie, it’s 100% true that you can learn to smell and even feel when storms are coming because of how much the air changes. The smell is similar to air freshener, but very faint, and the feel is like when you are in heavy mist, but you don’t feel any moisture on your body.

I unashamedly loved this movie. It was a lot of fun and everything a summer blockbuster should be and it's a shame you didn't get to see it on a big IMAX screen (I really wish I'd seen it in 4DX with the shaking seats, etc.) This was also my first Glen Powell film and I can definitely see why he's a rising star. I'm old af and remember living in north Alabama in 1974 when about 10 tornadoes came through in one night during what they now call "The Storm of the Century". From April 3-4, 1974, there were 148 tornadoes across 13 states and even Ontario, Canada, with 30 of those being F4 or F5. Went through lots of other tornado warnings over multiple years but never got to see one, although I saw and helped clean up debris in neighborhoods all around us. I had friends who went down in their basement during a warning once and came up and their house was gone, and another friend's elderly mom was in her car when one came out of nowhere during rush hour and it picked her car up and dropped it on a transformer which, luckily, was dead because the tornado had already knocked out the power. Her mom was in the car for almost 2 hours until they could get to her to get her out. I expect we'll see more of these big tornados and hurricanes (such as Helene) as climate change marches on.

So believe us that this wasn’t out of the world this was spot on maybe even less destructive then real life

"What is wrong with the people of Oklahoma?!" I've lived here for 30 years and I say this regularly. But the real answer is basements aren't a thing here because we have what's known as red dirt in most of the state that isn't suited well for building basements. Legit tornado shelters have been built into a lot of homes over the last couple decades, but not most of them. Typically we're either outside watching the tornado roll by, or hanging out in a center room of the house with no windows.

There’s a real life legendary Storm Chaser and KZbinr named Reed Timmer, only he has a REAL tornado intercept vehicle called THE DOMINATOR 3. And this one is better in every way than the custom Dodge Ram pickup Glenn Powells character used. It was a Ford F-350 that went through a $750,000 transformation to become a moving fortress/scientific research vehicle. It has kevlar composite coating with 16 gauge steel all over the vehicle, polycarbonate shatter resistant windows, can withstand winds up to 200 miles per hour, weather monitoring equipment on top as well as rockets that are shot into the tornado to gather data, and most importantly it’s shaped like an aerodynamic shoe/tortoise shell that can be lowered down so that the winds can’t get under and flip the vehicle over and has spikes that drill into the ground to anchor it. But I’m guessing they didn’t go with that for the movie because they needed a budget and Dodge wanted to see as much of their Ram as possible unobstructed by armor.

I just discovered Reed Timmer's YT channel, last month. He has some amazing, awesome (in, "induces awe"), terrifying tornado footage. I just finished your Band of Brothers watch-through, and I wanted to come to your most recent video to recommend "All Quiet on the Western Front" as another excellent and horrifying depiction of war. There are actually three different versions to watch, as it is based on a German book written in 1928. However, it was hugely controversial due to its truthful and unbridled portrayal of what the First World War was truly like on the frontlines. In fact, it was banned in Germany for a long time, and the author fled Europe when WWII broke out for fear of being executed. In 1930, only two years after the book was published, America decided to release a film based on the book, and it is a fairly accurate portrayal. There is also a miniseries that came out in 1979 based on the book, but the most recent portrayal is the 2022 Netflix adaptation. I would not say that it holds true to the book as well as the other Hollywood portrayals, but the purpose of showing how awful war really is remains the same. I highly recommend you at least watch the 1930 and 2022 versions. I have not seen the miniseries, but even just those two versions get the point across and make for a gripping watch. I'm sorry for the historical/persuasive essay, but after I watched how seriously you took Band of Brothers (much like myself), I wanted to bring these films up to you as remarkable pieces of history and film.

Funny story, I was in the big brothers & big sisters program. My big brother Jack went to high school with Bill Paxton who was in the 96 twister movie. He told me they were working in a lumber yard when Paxton said “I think I want to go to California and be an actor”. To which jack replied “that’s gotta be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard”. Years later when he saw him in aliens he was like “well I’ll be dammed”.

This one was OK but seeing the 1996 original in theater was an experience!

Fun fact: The guy complaining at the motel is Bill Paxton's son. Nice little nod to the OG Twister. Must watch Twister...for the...FOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

I think only 4 storm chasers in recorded history have died chasing tornadoes, and it was all during the El Reno storm in 2013, so pretty crazy for this movie to kill off so many chasers right at the beginning

Now, go watch the first movie! It spawned a lot of interest in storm chasing and weather sciences when it came out. I’m sure this movie will do the same for kids now.

Entertaining reaction. Though I will admit, like a bunch of other people in the comments, I’d highly recommend you watch the original 90s Twister movie.

I legit got mad at Man of Steel when I saw it in theaters because they all went under the overpass during the tornado. When she said that in Twisters, I was like, "Thank you!"
