i don't disagree with anything doug said about elden ring but as someone who is generally unskilled at that type of game, all the things he complained about are what make it fun for me, lol. i love that the bosses wait a century before they attack because it gives me ample time to just rush in without having to think or react. i love big giant stupid weapons that can stagger bosses and having an extra copy of myself to 2x all my attacks. definitely the best thing about the game was the seamless co-op mod, though, it made it way more fun!

@@asherdevin it’s more like the specific part of “stab things.” It’s unfun to learn the fights and you still get punished by RNG even if you do. Something like hollow knight is fucking fantastic, every attack from every boss in the entire game lets you punish them after. Nine Sols has a good attack/punish cycle but some bosses really don’t have enough attacks that leave an opportunity to punish and their downtime seems kinda arbitrary and unceremonious, but there’s so much to master and you take so much damage that you really do have to master fights, it’s good. (Though early bosses are trivialized by just spamming block) If you like hard games these things definitely matter. I don’t think doug likes video games in general, his taste is very random and hypocritical

it's possible to play all the other games by purely reacting instead of having to memorize five attacks where the boss's armpit congests and you have to delay roll into a thirty hit combo and spam roll thrice after two regular rolls. in other games you can actually read into attacks and there aren't six different delayed hit comboes to memorize the exact pattern of and it's down to RNG and you might not even see it because the camera is obscured so many "gotcha" moments to make unfair deaths. i would much rather fight bed of chaos than elden ring's game design
