3:15 As someone who has seen Amorphis live a whole bunch of times, I can confirm that the vocalist, Tomi Joutsen, sounds every bit as great live and has absolutely zero trouble flipping between growls and cleans. Edit: Also another cool thing is the absolute clarity of his growls. I find that with most singers I have a hard time making out the lyrics, but Tomi's diction is so good that I can make out every word.

Agreed, also seen them live a few times and I agree with everything Aleksi said.
@ProtoLolZz3 жыл бұрын
the part about clarity, its because hes pronouncing them with a tiny bit of finnish accent, Finnish language leans hard on every single letter (rolling r´s harsh L`s) while english tends to silence some letters mid sentence.

I can confirm that! Heard him on the 8th of July live. There was a lot of rain. It didn't stop us! Tomi was great! Amorphis were great! Awesome band!!!

Completely agree, imo he has one of the best growls in metal.

About the lyrical meaning of "The Bee", according to vocalist Tomi Joutsen, "The lyrical inspiration is a bee, also in a metaphoric way. The tiniest thing can sometimes be the most important thing. A bee can bring life or if we destroy all the bees, life will stop here."

Amorphis, another wonderful band and group of musicians. They are great, glad you reacted to them. Another Finnish group, must be something really good in the snow and cold there to bring out talent like this, NightWish, and many others.

From somewhere on the net: "a member of this band has confirmed that this song has to do with 'Kalevala' (which is a Finnish national epic compiled from old Finnish ballads, lyrical songs & incantations that's part of Finnish oral tradition). This song is about the hero Lemminkäinen dying and being sent to the river Tuonela (the underworld) & his mother going to fetch him back. His mother sews his body back in one piece and the sky god Ukko sends a bee from the heavens to blow life back into him."

Tomi is one of the best metal singers! I like to say he roars not growls....😉He got amazing clean vocal tone! They should be much bigger but they're Finnish so bigger markets rules them out
@Garbox804 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest obstacle is the genre. It might be a bit too melodic for many of the really hardcore deathmetal/-core/etc fans and they for sure are WAY too heavy for mainstream listeners. To my understanding they are quite big worldwide in their "sub genre box".

I once saw an interview with Esa Holopainen and he said basicly that he prefers it this way. Meaning he doesn't want the band to get too big so that they can still walk on the streets and enjoy being unknown. Which I understand completely.

From the first second: yes, we hear that! The shaman of AMORPHIS, the mighty and tender Tomi Joutsen. The man is like the elements themselves - majestic, awesome and beautiful. I rarely like growls in general, unless used sparingly to spice up the songs... but this is one of the most satisfying vocal emissions I have encountered in my life. And he does it steadily album after amazing album, mixing that deep growl on point with those warm manly clean vocals of his. I feel I need to give a shout-out to the instrumentalists and songwriters of this Finnish institution, but I am just exausted after so much night-time Net surfing. :)) Let us just say there was never a more fitting name to a band than AMORPHIS, and the way they construct their brand of compelling but accessible music laden with an individual melodic touch, makes it recognizable among legions of Prog bands.

Amorphis is in my top 3 since 1993. Taste to Bad Blood... Tommy is one of the best Growler nowdays along with Mickael Ackerfeld. His clean voice is also very good. They are just perfect in live performance.
