Thanks to Dr. Griffin for his sadly needed quote here in the States: “Vaccines-they actually work.” Given the current situation, he and other practitioners do have to state the obvious over and over…and that vaccines are overall quite safe and save our country billions in health care yearly in addition to saving millions of Americans’ lives every year…When I was in junior high, I thought everyone knew this! But I guess not. Hats off to Dr. Grffin for his patience in dealing with all these issues!

This mystery disease is malaria complicated by poor nutrition according to what I've read. Eggs this week an my large chain grocery was $7.00/dozen for least expensive white grade AA large shell eggs. Polio is a serious disease that terrified my parents. They were completely relieved when I received the first vaccines at school and as a result did not fall ill in childhood as did some other unfortunate children. They saved dimes for the annual March of Dimes campaigns for Polio. Their fear was rekindled when my uncle came down with Polio serving in Korea during the Korean War. So we chidren got the IPV vaccine too when it came out. We were VACCINATED!

Hey you guys: as we rehearse all the terrible things that can happen when you don't get your shots and get serious infectious diseases, a thing we don't talk a whole lot about is why people seem to be okay with this. Like they're watching people they love die and become disabled and they just accept this as inevitable. I'd really love it if you had a psychologist or sociologist on to talk about how we got here -- we have all these wellness people on one hand, and that quest for health can't be entirely performative, and then people who 50 years ago would actually have cared about these diseases, so what's going on?

I live in England. My 85 year old mother recently contracted a respiratory illness. Even though she is not eligible for Paxlovid (hardly anyone is here…), I suggested she test for Covid. She had 3 negative tests on 3 consecutive days. When she developed a secondary chest infection she informed a doctor over the phone that she had tested negative for Covid. His response: “there’s no need to test these days” 🤷♀️

The petition in question was filed to the FDA in 2022 by lawyer Aaron Siri on behalf of the group ICAN not on behalf of RFK Jr. The petition seeked to revoke one particular vaccine - IPOL - (which is one of six currently licensed polio vaccines) only for infants and children and only up until a proper trial was conducted as IPOL (licensed in 1990) was licensed based on a new technology at the time including growing the polio virus in monkey kidney cells that have been genetically altered to replicate indefinitely similar to cancer cells and those cells end up in the vial of each dose. The clinical trial relied upon to license that vaccine reviewed safety for only 3 days after injection before it was licensed. ICAN wanted to make sure that the vaccine was licensed based on proper safety data

I thought the emergency was just for thecow version. Anyone having contact with such dead birds needs to use extreme caution for their own safety. I was joking with my dad when I asked him “you don’t play with bird corpses, do you?“ I’d be shocked if this thing is just happening in California, though with the birds in the landfills and rendering plants. Maybe that’s something peak there compared to other places though.

(Sorry for so many) "Don't go out when it's raining" -- yeah, I love that. But Vincent, your predicted curve-squashing lasted long enough that I had a beautiful Thanksgiving with my (now grown) daughter and her boyfriend, the first real Thanksgiving here in a long time, and it felt great. We ate too much, we drank beautiful wine, we talked for hours and listened to some new records (yep, actual records) I'd just gotten, it was great. Young people are the best, they've got so much excitement and trepidation about the future, and everything's new for them. Chanukah, we'll see who's getting sick -- wastewater counts around here have skyrocketed -- but increasingly it looks like masks, just as well that no one really wants latkes anymore. Maybe we'll do early presents before she goes to the boyfriend's big family for Christmas, then she'll come over to light & mask. Anyway thanks for the clarification that at this point an infectious person is also much more likely to be a sick person. Also for the wastewater explainer.

The discussion about alteration in skeletal muscle is deeply disturbing -- what in hell could be causing a switchover like that? (More research is needed, yes, I know; I'll have to read the paper, thanks for bringing it to our attention.) The slow changes of aging are bad enough; that sounds like the stuff of nightmare. Although it would seem to line up with the experience of so many previously highly athletic LC sufferers who just get knocked down -- they've got lots of skeletal muscle, and they're also going to notice the change in a profound way. Maybe it's not so much that 30something marathoners and Crossfit aficionados are specifically vulnerable: they just have more muscle available for changeover, so the change is more obvious. (Also, do we know what "deconditioning" means for this kind of uh revised tissue?) I will say that while it's interesting (and disturbing), it doesn't seem to speak to the experience of so many LC sufferers who seem to have significant *cardiac* involvement -- heart racing to the point they think they'll die, awareness of their hearts behaving dysfunctionally. I suppose that could be neurological but...well, again, I'll read the paper, and thank you.
