Quite a lot of big sitcoms in American tv got his name in the credits and many of them won awards for their original humorous yet thought-provoking depiction of social realities: Roseanne, Grace, Dharma and Greg, Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, CSI, Mom, Mike and Molly, The Kominsky Method... I'm just saying he's a big name in the industry, regardless of viewers' individual taste of humor ...or his reputation as a person!

Ashton could have worked but the writers seriously could not have given less fucks about making quality comedy. They could have made Ashton Charlie's long lost son or Alan and Charlie's half brother or made Bad Alan take over as Charlie and introduce Kutcher. In part it was Chuck Lorre who ruined the series because he was spiteful and didn't want any reference to Sheen being positive.
