I love how Ollie shares bits of obscure information about the food, places, and people they encounter during their travels. I also find Josh’s open mindedness about their experiences and his sheer sense of wonder at discovering new things to be endearing. It’s so refreshing in this negative world to see these friends sharing fun and interesting little adventures. Watching these videos really makes my day.

Actually the pineapple story is true. There was a documentary on the history of food, pineapple, and gardens. Can’t remember what it was called but it was fascinating. And several of the science facts are true too. Like the explosions. Coffee creamer is notorious for it. So is flour.

I am from a town where it is a symbol of hospitality. When sailors returned home from the sea, they brought them back with them from the tropics. They were no longer good to eat, but the family would put them out on the fence post, as a sign to the neighbors that the son had returned and they could come calling.

The jaggery egg (assuming the jaggery is what I think it is, which is an unrefined sugar sometimes made from palm trees) brings to mind coconut jam or kaya, except they've swapped the coconut milk and sugar combination with jaggery.

It's somehow amusing how amazed you are about the lemon squeezer. My parents used to have one of those already in the 1970th. So growing up with this thing in our home made me not think of the fact that people might not know them, simply it was so "normal" for me. Proofs once more - there is mo such thing as "normal". 😉
