There are a handful of street food places with stars but the ones in this video just appear in the Guide without any commendation - the plaques would show a star/s or a Bib if they had those awards.

I think my favorite thing about the JOLLY boys is watching them share the experience with the crew. I grew up watching the Food Channel and any time there was a similar travel show, I always wondered; are the camera men and sound people getting to try this? It can't just be the host, right? And with JOLLY I know it isn't! They're always panning out to show the crew and inviting them to try the same bites, no matter how fancy what they're eating is, and it fills me with joy. It's like watching a group of friends experience the world together and that's amazing.

Thank you for exploring this topic! I haven't come across many videos that delve into Michelin-starred street eats, so I was thrilled to learn that there are a few, more accessible options on the list (I.e. no need to reserve a table 3 years in advance, and/or re-mortgage your home to taste them 😋) Also, It's wonderful to see that the guide is willing to look outside the box and highlight dishes with unconventional flavours. Sure, some items may not suit everyone's palate, but if it meets Michelin's high-standards, it's definitely worthy of a nod 😊

I was also surprised they haven't seen them before. We have fried wontons in America too. The kind of sauce you get really varies by restaurant. The most usual sauces are either sweet and sour sauce or a soy-based sauce with garlic or chilies. Sometimes they also come with hot mustard.

Seems like it's one of those variants of Chinese food that are more common outside of China and more catered to a western palate. Kind of like how general tao chicken is so common in Chinese restaurants fast food places in North America but isn't seen as often in China
@solitarelee6200
@solitarelee6200 Жыл бұрын
We have them here in america too, normally with a red chili sauce or an orange "duck sauce" or even that same sweet & sour sauce they use on chicken, just depending on the place. I was actually surprised, because the sit-down place they went to looks SO MUCH like chinese places near where I grew up, and many of the dishes were familiar as well. I always thought chinese-american food was just sort made up here, the way italian-american food is (you can tell i'm italian lol), but I guess there are some similarities after all! I'd really like to try the real versions of dishes I'm familiar with...

Yeah it's very impressive 👏 😊 I'm glad someone commented about him having Chinese heritage, I was sure his grandmother is or was. Pretty sure the only way I'd ever be able to deliver a proper pronunciation in Cantonese is if Josh or maybe Xiaoma were there telling me exactly what to say

i would kill to see you guys visit hong kong whenever y’all get the chance! their street food is on another level!! hk style waffles (格仔餅), egg waffles (雞蛋仔), egg tarts, pineapple buns, stocking milk tea, and curry fish balls to name a few. other dishes like squid/fish ball noodle soup (墨魚丸/魚蛋河), beef chow fun (乾炒牛河), and clay pot rice (煲仔飯) integral to the local cuisine are no joke either. hong kong is truly a foodie’s heaven:)) love you guys’ content as always and keep up the good work!! looking forward to that hk ep one day :’)

Yes yes yes. I love it so much that I used to actually just eat 3 of them (the fruit, not the fruit meat) when I was a little kid. Ofc, now I'm almost 30 , can't eat them that much anymore 😅
