Two Bullieds at Carlisle! Braunton and Tangmere plus WCR 37 on a Jacobite Stock Move, 08 June 24

A good day for Bullieds with 10 in operation this day. Glad you got to see both charters retuning, Tangmere looked good. I decided to head back on the S&C myself and it was not any more busy than usual except between Appleby and Kirkby Stephen. The empty stock move is presumably going to be replaced with MK1's from Barrow Hill

The outbound WCR stock movement were I think 3 Mk2s fitted with CDL, presumably to replace the stock heading south

​@@LeslieGilpinRailways I saw there was a Mk 1 move to Barrow Hill to have CDL fitted, I think a couple of weeks ago. The ones you saw were indeed Mk2 with CDL fitted. Also a move tomorrow 11/06/2024 from Southall which is possibly class 33 and British India Line hauled to Carnforth

Seeing two steam locomotives at a mainliner station must’ve been a great experience. it amazes me that they are using Southern Locomotives, are there no LMS Pacific’s available, that far up north! If you pardon the expression, have they gone loco!😂 By the way the 57311 livery looked really smart! May look into getting a model of it.

West Coast's locos are largely vacuum braked but they need Air Brakes for CDL-fitted stock they now have to use. Apart from Tangmere, their other steam locos are on contracts in the south. Occasionally they have rented one of Ian Riley's Black 5s for a charter (although his others are all committed to the Jacobite).

The wind seems to have been even worse at Carlisle castle than it was along the Solway shore! You did well to catch both specials running at speed.

It was windy up on that bridge. I could have found a better location on the M&C but forgot what time the Lakelander was leaving. Still its another spot to consider in future

Braunton's arrival looked a bit brisk over the turnouts?? So nice to have two Bulleid's (I before E, except after Bulleid) together on the mainline at the same time, same location. Great work there Leslie.

Tangmere and Braunton - so similar and so different. A 10mph limit on the goods lines? They are in much better condition than some of the crap short lines seen in American rail videos which similarly are 10mph limited.

10 on the sharpest curves too, 20 through the station. US short lines are really bad
