Excellent video Keith! Very helpful. I have 2 Canon R5 cameras and for weddings I use a 15-35 and a 28-70 f2. Im going to try your set up with the 15-35 clipped and the 28-70 on the strap to see how it does! Do you have any tips for preventing your camera body and lens on the strap from swinging around while you are using the camera on the clip? Thanks again and I subscribed! best, Rick

I use the same peak design setup with a 5dmkiv with 70-200 f/2.8 and the clip with a 6Dmkii and 24-105 f/4 so it does work with a heavy set

Keith, Huge thank you for this video. Just starting with a two-camera setup and was looking for a different solution than Holdfast - afraid of banging the camera when getting on my knees for low-angle shots, etc. Thank you!

Hi Stefan - Thanks for the feedback. I'm pleased you found the video useful. Certainly keeping the cameras safe when getting down low is a real issue with the Holdfast. Let me know how you get on, and whether you find a better solution. Best, Keith

Good day from Washington DC! I’m in the process of switching from shooting Canon to Fujifilm. I still own my EOS-R and too many RF lenses to mention. Although I love the results I get, I’ve grown tired of the weight & cost of this system. Canon has taken an approach away from apsc and put all of their eggs in one basket with this new R-system. I picked up a 9year old Fuji X-E1 & feel in love with shooting all over again! I now own a XT3 with multiple primes & the 18-55mm f2.8-4 kit lens! The size & weight plus not having to send hours in post has me loving photography all over again! Sorry for such a long post but I’ve found your videos so informative as a new Fujifilm user that I subscribed! Happy shooting!

Hi Keith, Thanks for a refreshingly honest review. May I offer another opinion as someone who is both an amateur photographer and a person who works in leather as a hobby? One aspect of the Moneymaker harness that I absolutely hate is its rivetted construction. Harness makers will never use rivets in any situation involving control of a horse, because rivets concentrate stress in one spot, whereas stitching spreads stress over a wider area. Traditional saddle stitching, which involves two needles, results in a joint that will still be secure if a line of thread is either cut, or breaks. Safety is paramount with horse control and that is why saddle stitching is used. I accept that the loads imposed by two cameras on a strap are not close to those imposed by controlling a horse, or horses, but rivetting is an anathema to a leather worker. Yes, it saves time over hand stitching using traditional methods, but it is also ugly in addition to creating stress risers. For these reasons, I would not buy the Moneymaker harness. A hand-sewn leather product is something of great beauty, but the Moneymaker harness fails in that area. I am a devotee of Peak Design's product, particularly their Slide camera strap. My love of it however does not colour my previously-stated views on the Moneymaker harness. I'd buy the Slide strap a thousand times over, despite my love of leather products.

Hi David - Thanks for your very detailed response. I had not really considered the riveting as it's not something I noticed previously. Thanks for the insights on stitching over riveting. I really like PD too as their products are so well designed for the user.

Have you tried dual slides and just cross them with rubber part up? Kind of hard to put a camera on my belt since I may not always have a belt and I’m a little heavier and stomach won’t let me 😅

There’s a dual strap with peak design anchor integration also. Im actually gonna craft my own dual strap with the peak design anchors.
Thanks, Jeremy. I'm glad you found it useful. KR, Keith

The MonkeyMaker is quite noisy in this video, which is a potential (professional) downside. Is it just your mic set-up for this video or also as bad in real life?
@KeithMasonPhotography Жыл бұрын
It’s a good point. I suspect the noise is more from the mic, but I do find that the MM has a tendency to clank and jangle sometimes when moving cameras around. Not that so much that I would be concerned to use it professionally. I have used it in churches and in quiet moments restricted my movement to avoid unwanted noises.

Have you tried using two slides? I am liking the peak designs system but i'll be shooting with an r6 with a 100-400 and an R with a 24-105 on motorsports tracks, so i feel like the clip on the belt probably won't work ;) Realistically, 80-90% will be shot on the r6, but i want that wider lens available at all times so i gotta find a decent system for that, while keeping cameras safe moving around the terrain of a motocross track.

Hi there Simon - Two Slides? I have two slides. They have a silicone side which grips your clothes and I am happy using that side just on my shoulder (not over my head), but I wouldn't be confident with one on each shoulder. I've tried putting two cameras each on a PD Slide and put them both over my head (one hanging RHS, one LHS) and the outcome was I found I was strangled by the overlapping straps. So I think for your set up with two fairly large lenses you should look for a different solution. If you are at meets with a backpack you could try the clip on the backpack, and the other camera on a Slide. I think that would work OK, but, unless you wear belt and braces, the heavier camera would pull your trousers down if you had the clip on the waistbelt. I hesitate to say it, but in your case, you may try out the MoneyMaker. The second camera won't spin around like mine did as you have a larger lens on it, and the weight would be evenly distributed. If you tend to be in one place (rather than moving around, crouching down, etc.) it may be a good solution. I found with the MoneyMaker at weddings I found that the cameras hung low and then they'd hit the floor if I crouched for a shot (I am not very tall! YMMV). Let me know if you find a solution. And thanks for watching. Cheers, Keith

@@KeithMasonPhotography sounds like I'll have to keep looking! Shooting motocross a lot crouching down (and in rough terrain) is very common so that counts the moneymaker out a little bit. Since i don't go between them very quickly, using the wider lens mainly in puts, waiting zone and some fairly rare cases on track i was thinking of using just one sling and just using the quick connects to attach to one or the other, but it feels a bit cumbersome. And wouldn't allow me to do a quick change when needed. The black rapid dual system may just be the solution. But i gotta think about the mandatory media vests as well. A system like that would need to be under the vest which adds another step when quickly heading to the media central between heats. Maybe I'll pick up a single sling and try the two cameras one strap thing. When i shoot with just one camera i am a strapless shooter anyway.

It's certainly a conundrum! I saw motorsports and thought F1 / Nascar but Motocross is much more tricky, I imagine. Perhaps you might consider a bum bag/fanny pack / small messenger for the second camera, so it's quickly to hand. Shoot that without a strap and just leave the main camera on the Slide...Let me know how you go. Cheers.
@Simon-eh5ez2 жыл бұрын
@@KeithMasonPhotography yeah, i shoot some asphalt tracks as well, but that's usually easier for gear. Doesn't need to switch between wide and tele as often either. A small bag for the 24-105 is probably a very good idea. Having batteries, memory cards a drink and a mic for switching to video now and then is almost a must as well so that is quite likely the best option!
