The Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) is an annual event organised by the Ministry of Education to celebrate the diverse arts talents of our youths in their co-curricular activities (CCA).
Bands may choose to perform either Movement I "Sarabande" or
Movement II "Gavotte" from Two Contrasts for Concert Band as their set piece.

Each time I listen to this reminds me of all the band stories which made who I am today. I miss those times. If I have a time machine and given a chance to go back, I will go back to this time. Time to reunion perhaps 2013 ST Margaret’s Secondary school suffers batch with Mr Alvin Seville.

My band will be playing this as their set piece. We feel that this piece would contrast to our choice piece. Am looking forward to work with them on this piece. A lot of work that needs to be done. Especially intonation and phrasing. It is not a boring piece. It is a lovely piece. It doesnt matter which piece is nicer. I really appreciate the works of our local composers a lot. Really happy that our local composers can compose such delicate yet beautiful pieces. :)

Practice arpeggios and intervals at a comfortable pace tonguing all notes. When you're able to do it perfectly increase the tempo or change the key of the exercises, exploring different fingerings and different note jumps. All the best!
