Brennan’s Protagonist Energy is normally *so* strong, so I love that every time a Lord of the Rings prompt comes up he immediately goes for Sam rather than Frodo
@Glamador5 ай бұрын
I think you'll find that is because Sam *is* the protagonist. He's Leon, Frodo is Ashley. ...the One Ring is also Ashley in this metaphor.
@eclecticdog2k9015 ай бұрын
I’m not familiar with who Leon and Ashley are, but I always felt like Frodo was structurally more of the protagonist even if Sam may be the hero. Regardless of how one interprets that difference, though, Frodo *does* give off the protagonist energy that annoys me in Brennan sometimes, and Sam doesn’t, which is why I enjoy Brennan immediately taking on the role of Sam so much.

@eclecticdog2k901 leon and ashley are from resident evil. in their game, ashley is basically a burden, she's a president's daughter that got kidnapped so the badguys can spread a virus (or smth, some bioweapon) to the us thru her. leon is the player character, he will have to go thru a lot to save her, himself, and the country who sent him. i agree w u that frodo is more of a protagonist structurally, but i think sam can actually be both the hero and a protagonist (just like leon)

@ambergris57055 ай бұрын
This is fun, and I know you can find quite a bit of homoerotic subtext in the Sam/Frodo Merry/Pippin and Gimli/Legolas pairs, but to me, one of the strengths of LOTR is how gloriously asexual it is. It definitely is romantic, but treats romance like a beautiful landscape, poetry, history, not as a standalone or special thing. And I find a lot of value in a world where fulfillment is explicitly outside of sexual life, but in so many other beautiful things. Like, it really shows of a beautiful world, beautiful lives, full of rich experiences, friendships and emotions that doesn't need sex to be complete. To me, it's a love letter to an ace lifestyle, somehow, and I claim it as ace representation (which imo is really lacking). And maybe more importantly too, not even the worst enemies and most cruel monsters are depraved enough to commit sexual violence. Tolkien described the most evil he could conjure, and yet he deemed sexual violence to be even worse somehow, and not worthy to enter his books. Respect!
@LostLifetimes5 ай бұрын
I agree! I think the "it's not explicitly sexual" can be used by some to discredit the queerness, when asexuality is part of the LGBTQIA, and seeing SamFrodo as an asexual-but-romantic partnership is just as valid as seeing them as QPPs (queerplatonic partnership). But there's definitely not Nothing there 😂
