I definitely agree that this flows better but I also understand the need for the two separate desks. It's not that he probably couldn't do his work at his gaming desk, it's probably that he needs to separation of space for gaming and for work so that he's not tempted to game or thinking about that while he needs to be working. Or alternatively, thinking about work when he's supposed to be relaxing. I have two separate setups for the same reason (one for gaming, one for art) and they aren't even in the same room

I don't understand it. I got one big desk for both, gaming PC under the desk, office laptop desk to the far right, sharing one set of peripherals between both PCs via a kvm switch. I'm not tempted to game during work because my monitors, mouse and keyboard are already in use by my office laptop and I'm not reminded of work during gaming because I stow the office laptop and notes in my laptop bag after work. Simple, cheap and effective.

This client already owns two setups so probably they have the same feeling, which is why I think they would hate the layout that puts the desks together and makes it feel like one big desk.

I'm nearly the same, but having everything right against the window wall creates dead-end nooks, which can make you feel trapped. Moving everything two feet would create an island that is centered in the space with room to move around; thus making the whole thing feel more open and balanced. Plus it's gonna be more comfortable when you open the windows and don't sit right at the edge of the room.

As for why two: depending on where he works, the hardware and software might be provided by the company with strict regulations to not put any games on his work computer and to not put his work software on the game computer.

I recommend you take interior architecture instead. Interior designer is a label anyone can take. Therefore your degree will need to be paid off & worked off, but anyone who didn't go to college or trade school or even finished highschool who think they have taste can call themselves an interior designer/stylist. And you will have to compete with them..and let me tell you the market is saturated with stylists & coaches. Being an interior architect will also enable you to renovate homes, move interior walls etc It's not as much work as and is more creative architecture or engineering and a huge upgrade over interior designer. Just advice from a professional. Good luck

I considered this one, but don't think it's optimal. If the client has two desks - one for working and one for gaming - then I'd wager this is likely because they are trying to create separation between working and gaming space. The plan shown here puts both desks side to side, which blurs that separation: No good. With that in mind, I'd put both desks facing eachother against the verandah window, closed in by the couch and with the TV on the bathroom wall. The gaming desk would be the one in the command position, as everything else seems to be of less priority here. This would allow the client to create a dedicated psychological space where they come to relax after a hard day at work, benefiting their ability to relax.

What I would do is still have the desks in the same position but flip one of the computers and chairs back to front so you cannot physically see the other computer as it will be facing away from you 😌

@@Saltyseawater I believe either Dodger or Jesse Cox touched on this a few years ago when the left their creative company. They tried to work from home and it just didn't work. They were just procrastinating all the time. So they saved up and rented office space and that separation helped grow their individual channels.

I would do the same but the couch and tables shifted slightly to allow walkable space at the window area. It feels more balanced that way and your couch would be more in line with the TV unit!

I agree. I don't like when the TV isn't lined up with the couch. And that's actually exactly how my couch is, there's about a foot between the window and the edge of the couch. In front of the TV console with two bookcases on each side. The window ends before the bookcase that ends up on the corner touching the window wall. I think it looks great. I also live in a studio so I have another bookshelf that is the same length and height of my couch, right behind it. And then my bed. Which separates my room from my living room

I would push the couch just a bit up to have a small end table & lamp near the window (and be in alignment with viewing the TV). Then add a small table or filing cabinet at the end of the desks behind the couch.

That’s what we did!!! Our living room layout is the same except the bedroom is behind the wall where the TV is so we flipped everything. You enter and there’s a big runner to the left is a skinny long tall table against the wall. To the right immediately a small coffee table and lamp and then the back of the couch. The space from the back of the couch to the wall to the right where the TV is about 12 feet so it’s it’s like a wide rectangle that comabines living room dinning areas plus a middle section we turned into a small ready area with a wall bookshelf

I would turn the lower desk to be facing the wall to make both the gaming area and the work area feel separated from one another, giving you more of an L shape. Then in the open space put an end table and add maybe a plant or something else to give the room a more alive feeling.

I have one main/core problem with that: the TV is the first/main thing people see when I open the door, attracting the attention of any thief-to-be walking by when I open the door. As a matter of principle I disaprove of any expensive electronic easy to grab&leave in trait view of the entrance door. That being said, the end design was most efficient choice, so would choose a "cube-tower" 5'1 or 6' by 1.3/1.3 as the closest to the door shelves. A little less welcoming, but hide enought to make me feel more safe of what I show the world.

You've got me curious, would having the TV be wall-mounted make you feel more secure about it being visible from the entryway? Less of a grab-and-go target, as a thief would have to spend time getting it down safely first, presuming they don't have a way to cheaply fix any damage they cause

@@blaireshoe8738 It would help, but it's the "shinny object for all to see" concept that I don't like more than the real risk (I mean I would have the same concern in a rich gated community, so it's more psycological than practical) , so as long as someone delivering a package at my door cannot see the TV just by standing there, it work (hence the tower shelves to hide it).

An interesting way to solve this problem! For me personally, I think I would repurpose the mostly-unused TV as the monitor for the gaming PC, so that I could sit on the couch to play games and only use a desk for working. In that case, I could easily use a controller and wireless keyboard/mouse from the couch, but it might be more difficult if you need wired components like a secondary monitor or webcam. I'm really enjoying your channel. These floor plans are fun lil puzzles and your energy is so positive. :)

I would personally put the couch against the (right side) wall and tv in the center of the living room, it being a small appliance would allow window space to be much more open to place both desks. As for the plugs and such for the TV I'd tape the wires down and put in a nice light colored rug over the wires and light colors to not feel cramped. Completely open door way and maybe allow the dining table to inch towards the living room room without blocking that other door.

Deals facing the room may be Feng shui, but my ADHD cannot handle it. I can see every distraction, even though my headphones cut out noise. The desk takes up so much room, because even when you tuck the chair in, the floor space is occupied. And it takes a few extra steps to get to the desk, rather than just walking past it, remembering my computer work, and sitting down. For me, those few steps can turn a quick task into a real chore that takes me a couple weeks to get started on. For me personally, anything that's too private for a desk against a wall is too private for the living room computer. I have a bedroom and a laptop and a phone. What I mean to say is, this is all very good advice, but be aware of what works for you. It might not fit conventional wisdom, and it can even change through your life!

How about.... From original positions: flip dining table, turn sofa 90 degrees with back facing table and bath wall. Long console behind door, smaller in line woth kitchen to create an actual entryway amd coziness in living. Tv on wall mounted swivel above small console/storage, desks with backs facing the wall in command? Then, room left for a small chair or poofs for extra seating and coziness near veranda window, facing sofa?

Someone would ask this question every video but no one ever has an answer. These kind of desk positions are with the assumption you're using a laptop. What if you have an entire desktop speakers monitors etcetc. The wires will be a hot mess.

It makes sense in the sense that your space should function best for how you use it on a daily basis. If the TV is only used when guests are around occasionally, why would you let it take up precious space and live around it the rest of the time.

I put both desks facing the balcony, with the work desk against the window and the gaming one behind it, because if you're spending that much time in front of a monitor you need some natural light and scenery. It also separates the work and gaming area a little more. I put the couch and TV in the same position as you. This actually works pretty well huh, i'm not completely clueless!

If you feel the need to have different desks for working and gaming (you should), you really don't want to put them next to each other. I would turn the working desk (bottom one) toward the window and move the other desk, and the couch, up until they align with the bedroom door. I may also put the entrance table behind the main door if the entrance feel cramped. I may be wrong, but at least you wouldn't see your entertainment space while you work, and I think it would feel even more open.

I noticed that you're always placing the work/gaming table away from the wall. But what I always see from other people's work/gaming setups is that their table are against the wall which means they are facing the wall when using the computer. This is my gaming setup as well. I like it better when it's against the wall since I can hide the cables behind the table, and i won't have any distractions in the background.

I wouldn't put the desks together because division of space can increase focus for the work desk. Putting the dedicated gaming space right beside the dedicated work space can create a distraction during work

I can’t stand a crowded entry. I would keep the desks where you have them. Turn the entry console to face the door against the kitchen bench. Put a plant on it to welcome you in. Couch turned to face kitchen up against window. Tv up against bathroom wall. Half on wall half out into kitchen area. Turn dining table and put against wall and tv unit. One chair faces wall one chair faces couch direction. Now you have space for a coffee table as well.
