To cut small pieces of wood safely, I made these hold down clamps. I made these in 2 models. This allows you to choose what seems best for you.

I like both of the clamps Chris as I think they both have their own use. The only thing I might do is put the knob on with the tee nut on top so it is always pulling into the knob. But that is just me and not meaning to be picky. Maybe I am missing something. What you have made looks great. Gary

Great project as always Christophe! For me to saw safely, I will often do a dry run with the blade out of the way, to make sure I know where to place my hands and make sure they won't come into contact with the blade. Then I pay attention when cutting and use push sticks anytime the blade is close to my hands.

Nicely done on both versions of the hold down. I find the timing of this show to be perfect as my scheduled show this coming Friday is the exact same project. My hold down clamps are a little larger and much more simple than your versions but I found some humour in the fact that we were on the same wavelength. Great show subject and really well presented. The second one looks easier to build. In answer to your question about what do I do on the table saw for safety, #1 is the guard stays on all the time. I designed my crosscut sled with clearance for the guard and continue to find work arounds for the other cuts that most would think you can't do with the guard. Draw back is the Dado blade, any suggestions for that? I chewed up 3 fingers on my left hand a couple of years ago and my wife threatened to cut off the chord or sell the saw if I ever take a cut with it off.
@christofix
@christofix 3 жыл бұрын
OMG 3 fingers, that's bad! I can understand your wife's concern. But I can also understand that once you've done woodworking it's impossible to stop. Thank you for your message. I don't have a solution for the dado blades, because we are not allowed to use dado blades here in Belgium. Regards Christophe

Nice project, I wouldn't have to redesign my crosscut sled to make these work, but still a cool idea. I personally favor a couple of push sticks, my hand never gets within 10 inches of the blade. If I'm cutting small pieces I will try to use a price of too hold the pieces down. Overall a pretty ordinary solution, but still effective.
