Welcome to flying. Constant maintenance and cost. I know your pain. Us flat-landers love the beauty of the places that you guys fly although it scares us to death. High altitude above sea level and rugged terrain is not great for small aircraft. I have experienced almost every type of engine failure known to man in lots of different aircraft. At least in the Midwest we have lots of places to land safely if you have some altitude. I flew an Aviat Husky out of Idaho Falls airport toward the Tetons. Gorgeous yet scary. I have flown the Hawaiian Islands many times. It’s as beautiful as it gets although there is no place to safely land except the water. Then you have to swim to shore against lava rock with high surfs. I love the banter between you pilots. My buddies and I always harass one another. Love the video as I can relate to your challenges.

Can't you prop those Rotax engines? Everyone is afraid of that but it's way safer than climbin on the tire with the engine running. I would practice that so you don't have to worry about your battery as long as your alt/gen system is working.

36 volt golf carts are mainly just 2 banks of three 12 volt batteries. You can still jump anything off, just be sure to hook the cables to only ONE battery. It doesn't matter which battery but pick only ONE. Now continue on your journey...
@JonasMarcinko4 жыл бұрын
True. We didn’t think of that. :/
@portnuefflyer4 жыл бұрын
Close, they use 6 volt batteries, 6 of them, in series, usually Trojan T-105's or similar, but your point is still valid. LOTs of 12 volt available!
@Rick_Dunaway4 жыл бұрын
portneufflyer I didn’t look up the make and model of golf cart, I just said “mainly” so thank you for the clarification. So we can then hook to any pair of 6 volt batteries that are wired in series, correct? Making sure not to put the ground on the chassis of the cart. Rather on the battery itself.
@portnuefflyer4 жыл бұрын
@@Rick_Dunaway Correct, could be the last two, first two, or the middle two. Back in the day, golf cart batteries, were the best bang for the amperage buck on smaller off grid electrical systems, the reason being they make so many of them. And why I knew that!

Still need a spark to ignite the fuel. I'm not sure what the engine configuration is for Jonas's airplane is, but you can get that spark either from the battery (which is dead) or from a magneto (which is a coil system similar to an alternator). If his engine does not have a magneto, then no spark :(

Good adventure I wish could actually be apart of. It's not the destination, but the journey. And it makes for good footage. But good thing she stayed home on this maiden trip. Thumbs up for using duct tape. Adapt and overcome. Last week the experimental Chevy igniter in my Toyota failed because the experimental heat sink was not adequate. Had to use a collectible stainless steel canteen from WW2 as a heat sink. The igniter was taped on to the canteen with Gorilla Tape. I was able to drive a long ways that way until the igniter began to fail. I got home and install the correct part. However, and unlike your adventures, the odds of crashing and burning were low. I guess that is in part of what makes your adventures interesting.
@bjs20224 жыл бұрын

A) You have a hand starter hanging on the front of the crankshaft. The three bladed starter will feel a bit more sketchy than a two blade starter - but it will still work. B) If the battery is too dead to pull in the master relay, you have to bypass the relay to get the engine to charge the battery. Then all will be good.
