The 461 head has a bad spark plug location. When using dome pistons the spark is straight into the piston dome and causes detonation. That is the reason for the angle plug on the later heads.
@seantroutt32918 күн бұрын
They do work just fine with flat top pistons though.

Another cheap fun sbc head experiment would be a set of the 081 casting 87-92 305 tpi heads using valvetrain scabbed out of a set of 706/862 heads using their 1.89/1.55 valves

Super excited for the future man, the blow up motor is going to depend on a few things, how high you rev it, how much boost, and the tune up! If it has good head bolts and a good tune up, it probably surprise us on how much it makes and how much it holds, if you rev it until it quits, rods will probably go, if you keep the rpm’s down and kill it with boost, i wouldn’t be surprised if the block does indeed crack, a sbc has more clamping force than a ls, but fuel distribution along with tune up issues especially on a carb, is what gets the new guys when they try to turn them up, killing head gaskets and ring lands

Cool stuff Eric! You might be my only hope to find at least one 187 350 head from 1970-71ish, that only came on the Corvette LT-1. Some claim it's the reason it made 10 more hp than the '70 Z28. They seem to be hens teeth! Thanks for all you do!!

@tchapps88 no not those, #3927187 heads, they are so rare it might be next to impossible to find one single one. I know for a fact they came on the 1970 Corvette with the LT-1 optioned RPO code. The rare vette with the big block hood and the LT-1 decals around the upper hood.

do your pistons have quench on the plug side for your heads?. I now see the pistons, look like quench on both side could work Power pack heads what we ran on the 4x4 chevies back in the day Moldex cranks stock 6" GM rods, Hillborns , roller cams What fun Those heads won top gas at the 62 AHRA nationals, we also had the 452 with the New 327 heads, they were better

This cast iron stuff is gonna be interesting. The valves seem shrouded, but the port entrance is aimed in a favorable place away from the shrouding. Honestly, if the torque is within 7% and the power crests 480, I'd call it a win.

I have a Schlotzky's in north Metro Atlanta and another is on the richer side of town near my office. But.. I hear you, I went to Dallas, Texas and on the way out we stopped in Mississippi, there was a Pizza Inn. I was just thinking what in the world and it was a new building. We haven't had a Pizza Inn in 30 years. They still exist? They had an old steak house along the lines on Western Sizzlin or something like that which is likely even longer ago. Pulling for your son. Frustrating, racing is racing. You do things you think are going to make you faster and it doesn't always work. Keep at it, faster you get the harder it is to lower your times but you can do it. That's all I got and yes as the father what do you say in the moment? I don't know but I know you're encouraging him and letting him know he's doing the best he can.
@seantroutt329110 күн бұрын
I do not think you can take hardly anything out of the chamber of the 461 near the intake other than to polish the chamber. I kept mine at at 1.94 intake because I was told the seats would crack if you open them up to 2.02 valves. I know several people that tried to put new seats in them due to sunken valves and they always cracked.
@ToddWright210 күн бұрын
You can always cut out the old seats and put good ones in their place. I did this on my W2(cast iron SBM) heads 20 years ago during a refresh. Granted, I traded the head work for some database work so I don't know how much it costs, but those heads are still in use and have zero cracks. On motor it makes 658 HP and I've made it choke down a 300 HP N2O shot on many occasions.
@seantroutt32918 күн бұрын
@@ToddWright2 Depends on the head casting. 461s are thin on the cylinder wall side of the intake valve and, as I stated above, the people I know that tried to cut the heads and put new seats in or opened them up to the 2.02 valve size always had one crack. At best I think someone is better off grinding to a larger valve size like a 2.00 valve, but I am not sure there is enough material on a 461 to go to a 2.02. The factory 2.02 heads were 462 castings (there were other castings as well) but hey were all the heads with the chamfer on the spark plug side of the chamber. When they reshaped the chamber they made the casting thicker around the intake valves, or possibly everywhere.
@chevyrc362311 күн бұрын
So i could be wrong but i thought i was told the the later double humps liek 186 and 492 had thicker or heavier casting to have more room to port over the 461 i could be wrong but i thought you can do more port work with the accessorie bolt hole double hump versions to gain more flow than the earlier ones but again i could be wrong
@bobgyetvai94449 күн бұрын
You are correct about the newer heads are better ones to port . Either style chamber however is scary unshrouding valves as they crack . Much smarter to use 1.94s and be happy . Difference isnt worth the chamber or seat cracking . The ity bity 305 , 267 , or 262 heads are 511 castings .

The economies of scale are very different in the printing industry because whether you print 1 copy or 100 copies it takes the same amount of time to set up and break down the job so if you divide the setup cost by 100 it will be much less expensive per copy, it’s the same no matter where you go. It’s funny that you make a comment about people saving money by using the Black Friday discount code and getting a poor customer experience, then mention you were looking for a less expensive printer right after. No matter what industry you get what you pay for.

Why would you give the info 2 months in advance? The desk jockey at Comp gets a 30 minute phone call to pick a cam.
@MrGeorge197811 күн бұрын
Because the competitors are not necessarily grinding the cams themselves and getting a custom ground cam takes time. Only two of them last time had access to grind their own cam...
