As a Lancashire lass these are my favourite sweet treats, I love them both equally. Thanks for the recipe Mr Paul, I look forward to making them

These look lovely Mr. Paul, and you explain the method so clearly and simply it encourages even the faint hearted to have a bash at making them. Thanks to you I'm becoming a pretty good cook. If only I'd known of you when I was younger and struggling to cook decent meals for my family, but it's never too late to learn, so a BIG thank you from your 80 year old fan in the UK.

Thanks for these two great competing recipes Mr Paul. I like them both equally, although Eccles cakes are easier to find in stores, especially in the south of the UK. I need to get baking then! Shared.

Hi Pete, the Chorley cake came out on top last year when I did poll of people who had actually made both recipes.. Must be the butter and cheese!! Regards to Richard.

Mr Paul it's always nice to have a bit of harmless Town rivalry going. Either way they look both delicious and I can't wait to try them soon, take care.

The Americans that watch your channel won't mind if you use inches, haha! I have always been fascinated with Bristish pastries. They have spices, peels, sultanas/currants which I love. They are also called by unique names, at least to me. My mother would enjoy these with her morning coffee. Thanks for sharing!

My two favorite things in the whole world. Eccles cajes I love with a bit of jam backed in them. They are hard to find here in my part of USA and only one place makes them almost right. I miss UK. Thank you Mr Paul.

Thanks Mr Paul. The wife and I have just watched this and my wife says she’s actually salivating. Unfortunately she is Celiac and I an Diabetic so she is looking into trying to make the Chorley Cakes with Gluten Free Flour. Being a Manchester lad, the Eccles Cakes we’re always my favourites but alas, they are not available in Canada, where I now live. I daren’t make the Eccles Cakes with Shop bought Puff Pastry as the wife would definitely have something to say about that😂😂

Hi Dave, what's wrong with shop bought pastry?

Oh, both look so good! I’ve made Eccles cakes, but not the Chorley cakes. I’ll have to give them a try! Question: Do the dairy farmers in Spain feed their cattle Palm Oil? Canadian dairy farmers do and our butter is not the same. Doesn’t melt in warm temperatures. I sure wish they would stop!

You certainly got me thinking. I'm not a fan of either of those, but I used to make really good scones years ago. They are so fast to make, but my sultanas in the cupboard will be years old now, So maybe time to buy new ones, I'll work through your orange cake I made today, it's looking really good. I'm making the scones on the next bake.

Thanks for showing the two recipes (and the difference) I think I prefer Chorley cakes and definitely the sultanas rather than currants. Would you say Chorley cakes are similar to Welsh cakes?
@MrPaulsPantry Жыл бұрын
Hi DD, no, welsh cakes are not made with pastry, it's more of a cake mix with the fruit mixed in. Also they are usually cooked on the stove top n griddle plate.
@pattyfarghaly1821 Жыл бұрын
I love Welsh cakes too.

Good morning Mr Paul. I always thought the Eccles cakes were too hard to make at home. They are my favourite so I'm going to have a go. Thank you for the step by step pastry. It's very handy to see it done as it's easier to emulate than just a written recipe for us novices. I heard its 40 degrees in Spain. Its still cold here and im still using my electric blanket. Oh for a bit of sun. Tell me Mr Paul are you a gardener. Do you use any home grown herbs fruit or veg. Again thank you for the video, so very enjoyable as always.

Hello Belinda, my late wife Pamela was the gardener and DIY person, since her passing I did keep the garden in good shape, however when I had my fall and broke my neck back in 2022 things got out of hand, so I now have a gardener to do it. Yes, all my herbs are grown just outside my kitchen door. I also have lemon trees, fig trees, plum tree and one each of Orange, grapefruit and a grape vine on my terrace. It is quite warm here, I'm sitting on the terrace with my morning coffee and a toasted crumpet.

Hello Mr. Paul! I like these recipes Very Much, but for some reason I keep seeing a small amount of orange juice in the mixture! It seems to be triggering a recipe memory that I can't figure out! - Any ideas what it could be? Lol! You look very fit today, I must say! As usual, Stay safe, keep fit, enjoy the sunshine, and pat the pups for me!
