I bet 2 days later she’s obsessed with the bob and feeling embarrassed for getting carried away asking for more. I’ve definitely had stylists give me the “why don’t you see how you like this for a few weeks before we go ahead and make that major change?” and it’s always good advice.

Yes to this! I had my hair cut really short last year and I liked the result so much that I wanted the hairdresser to cut it even shorter. Instead she advised me to do that next time so that I could get accustomed to a new haircut and see whether I really wanted it shorter on not. She’s the best stylist and she was definitely right. I did come for an even shorter haircut though, but only after 4 months

as a former stylist, major changes on a customer is a red flag. usually its because of a crisis being experienced, its an impulse. unless theyve been working up to it. its more of a shock to a persons system than they think it will be and having a client break down crying in your chair because they hated going so short suddenly even though they insisted on it, is absolutely crushing and scary because you feel like you did something wrong. and you feel awful for the client too because they are experiencing regret and theres nothing you can do. thats usually why they ask if youd like to do it in stages. not because they want more money, because they want the client to be happy and taking 12 inches off or whatever, can be brutally shocking, even wgen they expected it. people DO cry, even when they expected it.

Gah, I'm a barber and I get the guys who are all "lets try this first and see if I like it before going shorter" that's when I stop them and explain how if I have to do two haircuts there will be an up-charge. That's when they choose the size guard they want and end of convo, lol. If I have to do two fades because you couldn't decide, that's not on me... drives me nuts how they think I have all this time to do several cuts for one charge.

I had a really kind stylist who saw my face after she was done (my sister and mom convinced me not to go as short as I wanted) and she fixed it for me even though it took extra time. It pays to be nice and not EXPECT people to go above and beyond for you!
@heidikickhouse-
@heidikickhouse- Жыл бұрын
I assuming you're not saying that you being nice made your stylist be kind and fix your hair when you were upset. I think the ability to re-do a haircut is not just about kindness. Nobody wants an unhappy client on the street. There's also whether you're causing an inconvenience to other scheduled clients, whether the salon is closing etc. It's great she helped you though!

The part where she turned you around and asked if you liked the length - THAT would have been the time to switch it to the pixie cut. But after you said that you wanted what she was giving and she gave it, well, that is the point of no return. It’s like if you ask a painter to paint your house in a specific color but aren’t sure if you want the same shade it’s in or if you should go to a darker color. So they paint your garage in the darker color for comparison and you tell them you like it and want them to proceed. So they do and after they finish the whole house, you decide you want something else - the original, darker shade, different color, whatever. The point is that the first job is finished. They took the time allotted with the supplies and person power. If you want a new paint job, then they’ll have to reschedule you and it will be a completely different service/job. Does that help make more sense? It’s not like a blouse you can return for a different size/color.

My mom is an amazing accountant/secretary/office worker (she's had to do like four jobs in one at a few of her jobs, one of which she was with for over a decade so she's very experienced), but if she retired I'd have no idea how to take over bc I don't have any experience working in an office besides watching her work after school (didn't have a sitter and couldn't be left at home my myself). While I do hope your stylist's daughter is as good as her mom/predecessor, it's very possible that she is not and I would definitely see how she does maintenance on your existing cut/color before doing any drastic changes. I wish you the best of luck!💖

Seriously. I wanted the hand painting changed on my accent nails for my wedding because it was too dark and I liked another artists style better. I paid for it all because my nails were already done and they were working on my MOH’s nails. I asked if I could change the design, said I’d pay for the change and walked out happy. I also tipped both artists that worked on me. But asking for an entirely new haircut/style only happened ONCE because she had my back to the mirror and she straightened my curly hair! I didn’t ask for that I just wanted my hair trimmed. She didn’t even understand why I was upset she had to bring the manager over and I was like “she straightened all my damn curls out!! Can I have them back?!?!” Still walked out with large barrel curls only on my ends, no volume, and paid almost $100 for what was supposed to be a trim. Never went back there or directed anyone else their either though. Especially friends with kinky/curly/coiled hair cause Becky sure didn’t know wtf to do with my hair.

Yeah, I'm glad that the second hair cut (because that's exactly what this would have been like she said) didn't take place then. It's cute how the client tried to finagle getting a second cut for the same price as one. More than likely she would've hated the much shorter style probably within a few minutes of seeing it and then she would have complained that it was the stylist's fault for not talking her out of it. This sucks so much when stupid people try to do this.

What is your recommendation for lashes? I am 15, and want to know if it’s a good idea to start doing false lashes that early, especially because a lot of girls I aspire to be have them. Also, what are some colors for a dark brunette to try for temporary dye? I have a costume birthday party, but can’t seem to find a vibrant enough color. Sorry, I know this is a lot of questions.

I don't understand the "let me turn you around" part. Does that mean the client isn't facing the mirror while the cut is ongoing? I have had my hair cut by at least a dozen stylists in my life and none of them have ever turned me away from the mirror to cut my hair. I see barbers doing that, but not stylists.

Usually to show accurate length I’ll hand the client the mirror and turn them around so they can get a good view of the back. It’s easier to judge than pushing it forwards and easier to see than me holding the mirror from the back.
