When i bought and used my first Coleman in 2012 during a deployment i at first thought i wanted a bigger size, carrying it in the pocket i liked it's size much better.

The Coleman is definitely the easier carry option. And it is well made.

I love the Klezmer opening and closing music! My late brother was in a Klezmer band. I have a couple of “hobo knives.” One is a Coleman, like yours. I don’t remember the brand of the other, if I ever knew it. I bought them “used” for low prices, but they seem new. I really like this kind of gear. I was probably a hobo in some previous lifetime. Another thing I love is the “hobo alphabet”- the semi-secret code of symbols they used to communicate with other hobos. For example, a cross means “use religious talk to get a meal here.”

I had a hobo knife when I was a kid, but managed to lose it due to my carelessness. 😕I really should get another one for my collection, though. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!

Sizewise i like the Ozark Trail better, but the Coleman defenitely is constructed better. Two nice budget tools. Thank you Tobias.

Hobo knives, a great little subdivision with the collection. I lost my original Kabar hobo but since replaced it and use it. I think I have about 5 hobo's now from different cutleries. One I am missing is a Case Hobo (esp. the BSA one). Just a bit much for me for a hobo. Thanks Tobias, cool reminder to keep looking.

I actually prefer hobo knives that a hobo can afford! The Case is sold at a ridiculous price!

I have one from Cabela’s I picked up because I thought it was a handy knife for lunch boxes, eating fast food in your car and camping. The interesting feature it has is the knife is a lock back. I would like to see your collection of knives like these, I know you have a bunch of them.🙂

At one time, Victorinox actually put an cutting edge on the inside of their cap lifter/screwdriver. The should've never removed it.

Tobias, Have you seen the VICTORINOX SWISS ARMY KNIVES SWISS SPIRIT 2023 COMPANION WALNUT WOOD KNIFE. It looks like the can opener has been replaced by a new tool. Have no idea what that tool is called nor what it does. Do you ?

It’s a package opening blade. Still has a small screwdriver/2D Phillips. It also has a nail file in place of the small blade.

Now I feel a strong urge to buy a hobo knife.... It is a classic pattern! How old it is?
@KnifeChatswithTobias
@KnifeChatswithTobias Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure but I believe spoon/knife combos go back for centuries. I know they were common during the American Civil War. The American Red Cross also supplied them to American Soldiers during WWI.

@@KnifeChatswithTobias Almost immediately I sent my question I remember a picture of a roman "camping" knife with a silver spoon and a sort of fork with two prongues and a long toothpick. It was for rich people, obviously. It not come apart like the hobo, but is the same solution for the same need. You see.. may be your hobos knives are the oldest pattern in your collection!

Child, please. A hobo knife is a stabbing knife. It's a foot long and wicked sharp. Look up Simpsons and hobo knife for the song. :)
