Two fifteen letter words? Am I hallucinating, or is the air around me dehydrogenizing? Either that, or someone around me must be decarboxylating some THCA.

@@mackmeller I wouldn't be too surprised to see it get beaten using a far larger dictionary :P. We did look into the 15s back when constructing this challenging using NWL, and I think we eventually decided that none of the 15s were viable.

Not just the 15s. Plenty of good 7s and 8s on the periodic table (along with their compounds), the classic front hook of an M onto many words beginning ETH..., and I've had AZO challenged incorrectly more than once by beginners.

In your previous video you scored less points in whole game against Will than some of those single words gained. Btw, a ridiculously beautiful game and ends in a tie😂

How long does it take to plan out a game like this? And how different is the skillset of a board constructor vs a top level tournament Scrabble player? I'm sure there's a lot of overlap, but it wouldn't be perfect.
@Teehee57725 ай бұрын
I'll start off by saying that I'm a terrible scrabble player and a very good programmer (I like to think I'm one at least). It took me a total of around 25-50 hours to find this game, though only ~5 hours of that was spent coming up with a layout, and the rest was spent running my brute force program.
@Dashmast3r5 ай бұрын
@@Teehee5772 Meaning, you came up with the final board layout without programming assistance, then ran the program to find the sequence of letter draws that could result in the layout? Still damn impressive, just finding the layout! You must've had to look up some of the words...

Why are Americans so resistant to using the international dictionary?
@mavenofmacau63915 ай бұрын
Because it has even more words than no one considers words. The North American dictionary already has enough of those.
@mackmeller5 ай бұрын
Maven’s response is the main reason, and another deterrent is a lot of folks dislike the 5-point challenge rule the international lexicon uses since they feel it devalues word knowledge.
@Wouter101235 ай бұрын
@@mackmeller Thanks! I'm a new player (not from NA) wondering which dictionary I should use. Probably the international one. The amount of words is pretty overwhelming, but then again, so is the NA dictionary.
@eighthcoda5 ай бұрын
Other reasons: In America, most tournaments use the North American-specific dictionary. Those tournaments tend to be better-attended, with weaker competition and better prize money, which means higher expected value. Finally, once you begin studying those extra words, it becomes very difficult keeping them distinct from the smaller lexicon. It's been 10+ years since I last looked over the international lexicon, but I still have dictionary confusion on a regular basis. Personally, I like the exoticness of the international words and would gladly switch if it became expedient to do so. I do agree that the 5/10-point challenge rule is too weak and devalues the psychological complexity of bluffing.
