They implemented the idea of sli totally wrong, that’s why you don’t see it today. Instead of your pc using both gpus simultaneously, it actually just uses one card until it’s at max load, and then switches to the next. This switching between cards is what causes the issue that killed sli: stuttering. And another huge problem was the fact games devs were responsible for supporting sli, instead of it being handled by drivers. If they would have just allowed both gpus to be ran simultaneously as one large gpu, and implement support via drivers, Al of us would be rocking sli 2 gpus. What a sad waste of a great idea.

Def for AI models. Even fine-tuning for inference requires a lot of VRAM usage with LLMs. Customer probably wanted low-cost Nvidia GPU with high VRAM capacity (3060 with 12GB VRAM).

I use a 2080 and a 3070 because Blender doesn't need an sli bridge. Blender uses the cuda cores and it's doesn't require frame timings. That and memory is effectively shared.

There are uses for it that can range from a lot of stuff. The main stuff your gonna hear is ai learning, bit mining, etc. But some practical uses for the average user would be using one gpu to run your main monitor and game. While the other gpu runs whatever other monitors you have. While running multiple monitors doesn’t take that much strain on your gpu(unless you playing 2 games at once which is crazy) it still does release some load so your gpu can put out just a little bit more power on the game you want to play. My system has a 4060 for my main monitor and a 960 for my other monitor.

I got 4 quadro cards. (and Xeon, and 256gb ram ECC) For finite element analysis. Fun fact about FEA - you can split the task across more computers in the network. But for some types of FEA it's only this much you can parallelize the tasks before they hit the serialization of the tasks.. so having monster power available is still very much needed even if I could hijack the entire department pc's to work for my model after hours when not in use.. but i still want a powerefull single pc than an army of office ones.
