sometimes just nudging and blocking into gaps to get singles is the way to go, especially if you're struggling to get good timing, cricket isnt alway about boundaries or hitting the ball hard. Sometimes its just about being there and getting the easy singles, even at a strike rate of 40-60% in a 50 over game means youll make a good amount of runs for the team. I've been in your position (as an opener) where you can't buy a run, but i stopped thinking of "where am I gonna get off the mark" and instead think of "when i get off the mark" (i went out there thinking i wasn't on a duck). It helped me go 2 and a half seasons without scoring a duck and i was in the top 3/4 run getters in that time for the club I played for (I definitely wasn't in the top 10 talented players either). I believe it helped me stop over thinking what I'm doing with my feet, my positioning, my bat grip/angling. Cricket can be a simple game, yet it can also destroy you mentally. It’s vicious cycle Gareth. You’re putting too much pressure on yourself when you start your innings. Have you ever tried transcendental meditation? If not give it a shot. It will help you to control nerves and focus on the matter in hand. Not just in a cricketing context but in every aspect of your life. When you’re struggling for runs don’t play across the line. Play the ball late and straight. Remember, it’s just a game so all you need to change is the mentality. We play the game because we love it. Bring back the love ❤. Best wishes.

From the looks of it, you put your leg on the off so that the ball (which was bowled middle and off) would come like a middle ball so you could sweep it. Sometimes it'll work but other times you'll be off balance, so try and stick to middle balls for sweeping. And just because you got out to this attempt at sweeping doesn't mean you should stop attempting. I'm sure that one day you'll get it right perfectly and the sweep will get the runs. Keep at it mate!

It happened to me in the first half of the season in 2024 ,I was not scoring runs at the top order but my captain and teamates still believed in me and said that I have the talent and potential and hence thought I should open the batting. The decision worked as I made 3 fifties in my last 4 matches of the season, two for the 4s and 1 for the 3s.

Mate...be calm. Try to rotate the strike. You will put less pressure on yourself as well as your teammates. You can look for the big shots once you settle in. I'm not the most talented batsmen, so i just rotate the strike, get around 20 - 30 runs and look for the boundaries. By then, most probably i'll have a partnership with my partner and would have added a few more runs on the board. If you're in form, you will hit some boundaries and maybe get a big score. Hi Gareth, how are you? I honestly think you should open the batting for Marshfield CC because when you played for Woodhill Spa, you opened the batting and you scored a truck load of runs in that position for your old club, so maybe it might work for Marshfield.

It's all psychological. You're a way better player than this standard. The bowling and fielding is absolute dross. Either disable comments or stop posting the videos just before your next game. The comments are getting in your head. It's not rocket science. Cricket is a mental game. You're letting the channel and the comments into your head.

Just need to play with more conviction when it comes to those sorts of pre-meditated shots, never go half in half out with them. I know what you're capable of, I've been watching you eversince your channel was called "On Daddy Cricket" back in 2021.
