Hi Big Sky, I've seen other teachers stress the Yo-yo release but I never understood it. This video shows that the cupped wrist must relax and let the ball roll off as fast as possible to generate revs. Now I have to try it. Thanks Big Sky !

Everything you have said is totally true -EXCEPT additional two hand turn must also be added at the ball release to further increase revolutions and therefore skid. 🧑🏽🎓
@BigSkyBowlerАй бұрын
@@SuperSdbaby not turn. Turning the ball with your wrist has absolutely nothing to do with Rev rate. It allows a player to induce more axis rotation or less depending on the wrist position. Being under the ball and opening the wrist quickly is what generates Rev rate.

@@BigSkyBowler Yes, I don't have a whole lot of money to be going to the bowling alley all the time, so I've been working on my 5 step approach at home, practicing with a toy ball on relaxing my arm from the backswing and releasing it low. I know it's not the same as an actual 15 pound ball, but I'm hoping the repetitions will build in some muscle memory

Love your channel. Thank you for sharing this info with the bowling community. Ive been bowling for 30 years one handed but recently starting having issue with thumb swelling so im trying to learn the 2 handed style. Question, should i use the same finger tip grips of my one handed shot or do the fingers need to go further down into the holes?
@BigSkyBowler Жыл бұрын
Thank you and you are welcome! On the fingers: It's up to the individual bowler to decide what feels best. Usually too much finger is a bad thing. One thing that will definitely need to change is your finger pitches. The majority of two handed bowlers need more middle finger reverse pitch to get the ball track away from your fingers.
@AndresCuervoArt Жыл бұрын
I’m having a lot of trouble releasing the ball two handed my hand goes from inside to the outside of the ball like brushing or hugging the ball “hand shake motion” in order to hook the ball it spins 90 degrees but lacks power speed and aim consistency, but If I try to release from the back of the ball it just rolls end over end and goes straight so I’m confused cause I see pros do a diagonal 45 degree push to left gutter but the ball still travels forward to the brake point
@BigSkyBowler Жыл бұрын
It sounds like to me you do not understand exactly how to rotate a bowling ball. You are applying axis tilt instead of access rotation at your release. To apply axis rotation, imagine that you're opening a round doorknob at the release point with your hand. In order to do this properly your hand has to remain underneath the bowling ball and not get on top of the bowling ball.
@DaMaxchi2 жыл бұрын
I've been using a cupped/uncupped release but have noticed that the back of my fingers actually hurt when I uncup during the release because my fingers catches the top edge of the finger holes. Do you think that my pitches are too forward (1/8 reverse) and I would benefit with more reverse?
@BigSkyBowler2 жыл бұрын
It could help. Most two-handers want forward pitch on their middle fingers and reverse pitch on their ring fingers to emphasize dominance with the middle finger at release. I would recommend checking with your PSO when it comes to making finger pitch adjustments and if you decide to, start small with 1/8" changes. Another item to consider is how beveled if at all, your finger holes are. If they are not beveled at all, you may want to have your PSO bevel the leading edges a bit to help reduce the pain.
@DaMaxchi2 жыл бұрын
@@BigSkyBowler Thanks for the response and insights. I think I will try and experiment with my pitches. In the meantime, I'll bevel the the edges as you suggested. I usually keep my edges on the sharp side but I could always bevel the top edges only as a start. I enjoy all your videos. Good job!

How do you prevent missing your target left! I have a tendency to pull shots badly left at times.
@BigSkyBowler Жыл бұрын
Misses left are most common when you have late timing. That is moving the ball too late in the ball start phase. Maybe try moving it a bit earlier.

So we don’t use our middle two fingers to flick the ball? Also, I’m sure you’ve heard the handshake at the end for release. If we are supposed to just let our wrist relax, and do the yo-yo how do we get the ball to spins sideways and not end over end? I thought we were supposed to try and come up the side of the ball
@BigSkyBowler2 жыл бұрын
It all comes down to the direction our fingers are pointing as the ball rolls off your hand. If you want forward roll, your middle fingers point at 12 o'clock. If you want side roll, they point at 10 o'clock (as a right hander). I have heard the handshake... very old method or style of teaching ball rotation.
@BigSkyBowler2 жыл бұрын
In the old days, before ball cores were as advanced as they are now, bowlers had to generate shape with their hands. These days, the balls cores generate the hook all by themselves. It's best to stay behind the ball instead of rotating around the ball and allow the core to do the work for you.

@BigSkyBowler2 жыл бұрын
Sure you can! In fact, the yoyo release was made popular by thumb bowlers. You just have to deal with making sure that your thumb clears the ball before you start to impart rotation. If you don't, your asking for one bad day.

@@BigSkyBowleri’m sorry i was mainly looking at the part where the ball is resting basically on your forearm not the yoyo technique

I encourage you to take a look at Chris Barnes as an example of someone who begins their approach with the ball against his forearm. It is possible, although not as easy with your thumb in the ball.
